With everything getting worse, I mean. This country is going to hell. Everything is expensive. All we ever hear about is how great everything is from billionaires. This country disgusts me.

I saw a couple videos earlier of some WW2 vets that are still alive. They said they regret it all. They said that, when looking at the country today, the sacrifice wasn't worth it. They cried.

Yeah... I get it. You know, you see your friends chopped up by German MG42 machine guns, and you to yourself, hey, we're fighting for the people back home. But when those people are gone, and your politicians have sold your country to the highest bidder, what else do you have?

I'm wondering if the video you posted is an AI version because I've seen a British veteran say the exact words...but he was referring to the Islamic takeover of the UK.

Btw, our country is still better than most. If you really hate our country, you are free to leave.

I don't hate our country. But I am disgusted by what it's become. They call it a democracy, and yet, all of the decisions are made by billionaires in the ruling class.

That’s a good question.....especially for Christians.....because it shows us where our loyalty and dependance on our God and our faith, affects how we live our life. We have to live in this world, but the challenge is not to become part of it....not allowing the awful aspects of it to wear us down, or worse, to wear us out.
But...we have to remember who is running this show. (1 John 5:19)

If we have been sucked into the political system, and fallen for the whole patriotic thing...the devil has got us...hooked by the heart and brainwashed into becoming his willing servants...to do with as he wishes, salving consciences with thoughts of nobility.

He loves immorality, violence and bloodshed.....which we know is at the heart of today’s standards of living...as well as the standard themes of the movie and gaming industries....training, especially young ones, to gravitate towards all the things that God hates.

Desensitisation is the name of the game.....ever so gradually he has eroded human sensibilities over many decades to basically transform previously moral people into those who accept so many forms of aberrant behaviour.....when everyone else accepts the same standards (or lack of them) its so easy to go with the flow....to watch movies that they wouldn’t have tolerated even 20 years ago.

Add to that, the increasing problem of homelessness that robs people of their dignity and worth....and the rising number of health issues that rob so many of their ability to enjoy life.
Endless natural disasters that destroy homes and lives....and the wars that never seem to bring about peace.

Where are the genuine Christians in this picture? They are no part of any of it....they obey Jesus to be “no part of the world” because this is the world that God will soon destroy.....(Dan 2:44)

God did not create the world for nothing...and what he planned for this earth will soon be restored to what he intended for it.....but first there was an object lesson regarding the problem of obedience. As the Creator, God has the Sovereign right to dictate the terms of our existence.....and in the Genesis account, he shows us exactly what he had in mind.....this is what we will get back simply by having the wisdom to abide by the rules and enjoy the benefits that will follow...everlasting life in paradise on earth.....(Rev 21:2-4)

It’s something that I look forward to.....as the “ruling class” will be of God’s choosing...no billionaires will exist as everything will be free.....as it was supposed to be.

The glass is half full to some and half empty to others. Mine is half full. Why, because I've lived through adversity in my life, that is, highs and lows. Things were worse in 1973 comparatively because of the oil embargo. Gas price shot up. Cars were not sold. Soon after Japan flooded the America market with cheaper and better cars. America had to catch up and there were no good paying jobs. But we came back stronger within 10 years.

I KNOW that God knows. I heard a preacher many, many years ago preach prophetically about the downfall and failures of our modern society. So God knew then and still knows. I know He is in control and I trust Him. So that is how I cope.

I cope with it the same way the primitive Christians coped with it @Riven.

“We are citizens of heaven, you see, and we’re eagerly waiting for the savior, the Lord, Messiah Jesus, who is going to come from there.”

(Philippians 3:20, NTFE)

You’re vexed by something which is temporary and passing away. Seek the coming and permanent kingdom of God.

I don't think escapism is the way Jesus wants us to handle our mission to be light in a dark world.

I worked for the state (as a civil / environmental engineer) for over 30 years. It‘s a mixture of good and evil. I was occasionally ordered (by “Christians”) to do evil things. On those occasions, I refused and paid the price for doing so. I was able to do much good for my fellow man in my position.

I understand the sentiment. t's the way of the world. We were told by Jesus that wars and rumors of wars would increase. Scripture says that because iniquity abounds, the love of many would grow cold.

How do we cope? Knowing the truth is freedom. (Jesus Christ, the way, the truth, the life.) Endeavor to walk in love .....easier said than done. But the world around us is broken, lost, and loveless for the most part. The remedy is love. And for me, knowing that God is love, that means drawing as close to His heart as I can where I am safe from all the evils that are increasing around me.

Also, as the world grows darker and darker, I find hope in Christ. He warned us when He was walking this earth that men's hearts would fail them for looking on the things that would come on the earth. If we have hope, and an eye gaze that is set on that hope in Christ, it is an anchor in tumultuous times. This life isn't all there is. Our suffering here will be just a blink in comparison to eternity. What awaits beyond this life is more than we can think or imagine.❤️

Beautifully described....but I wonder what most people imagine about what awaits the faithful at the end of this life.....? What is the reward that the Bible speaks of?

For the most part, they imagine a life in heaven where everything will be perfect, and happiness will endure with nothing to spoil the life we are given.....but is that what the Bible says will take place?

What do the posters here envision as the future for faithful ones who endure to the end of this world? (Matt 24:13)

A couple of bible verses

1 Peter 4:12-13 - MSG
12-13 Friends, when life gets really difficult, don’t jump to the conclusion that God isn’t on the job. Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ experienced. This is a spiritual refining process, with glory just around the corner.

1 Corinthians 2:9 -
it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

1 John 3:2 - NKJ -Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

Revelation 22:5- NASB- And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illuminate them; and they will reign forever and ever.

A couple of bible verses
What I see in those verses is very different to what most people understand them to mean.....
1 Peter 4:12-13 - MSG

Not a fan of overly paraphrased verses that lose something in the translation.....

“Beloved ones, do not be surprised about the fiery trials that you are experiencing, as though something strange were happening to you. 13  On the contrary, go on rejoicing over the extent to which you are sharers in the sufferings of the Christ, so that you may rejoice and be overjoyed also during the revelation of his glory.”
This to me is more on point....
So this is addressed to the first Christians who would be “overjoyed during the revelation” of Christ’s “glory”.

What revelation is this referring to? How did first century Christians understand Peter’s words?
What was their expectation?

1 Corinthians 2:9 -
it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
What is “prepared” for those who “love” God?
What did those first century Christians look forward to?
1 John 3:2 - NKJ -Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
What is this scripture referring to ? How do people become “children of God”....and because it had not been revealed what they will “be”...were they expecting to become something else?
And when they expect to be “like him” and to “see him as he is”.....what do you think they had in mind?
Revelation 22:5- NASB- And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illuminate them; and they will reign forever and ever.
What is this describing? And if they are to “reign forever”...over whom are they reigning?

Are all these verses describing something in heaven or on earth?

All the previous verses are for all Christians having the promise of eternal life through Christ Jesus. Yes, on earth and in Heaven forever, with God. We belong to God, because Jesus paid the price of our redemption through His death on the Cross, where Jesus conquered death through His resurrection, being the first fruit of the promise.

1 Corinthians 15:20 -But now Christ is risen from the dead and has become the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.

Ephesians 1:13 - In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

When you gave your life to Jesus, He paid the penalty for your sins, forever, not later, but now and forever.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore, Glorify God in your body and in your Spirit, which are God's.

Yes.....Jesus was the first human to be raised from the dead in the way that scripture means.
Jesus was not the first human raised from the dead however, as Jesus himself raised the daughter of Jairus, the widow’s only son, and, most famously, his friend, Lazarus.

So, in what way was Jesus “the firstborn from the dead”? This is where the immortal soul doctrine comes unstuck. Where were all those who had died prior to Jesus? If he was the “first” one to experience this kind of resurrection, how did it differ from the other ones mentioned in Scripture?
Besides Jesus, Elijah, Elisha, Peter, and Paul all performed resurrections.
Ephesians 1:13 - In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
The ESV phrases that a little differently....and the following verse brings out some additional information to add to our understanding.....
“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.”

The Bible speaks about a “sealing” that God’s elect receive...it is a token or guarantee, given in advance of their own resurrection, which the Scriptures show will be exactly like Christ’s resurrection. They will die a death like his, and receive a resurrection like his. So the next verse indicates that being “sealed” with the promised Holy Spirit is given to the elect (chosen ones/saints) as a guarantee whilst they are still in the flesh, “UNTIL” they “acquire possession of it”.

The elect actually have a different resurrection and destiny to those who are not elected for a position in the heavenly kingdom. (Rev 20:6) They are resurrected “first”.
Since God himself does the choosing, no one can volunteer for this role...it is granted by God to those whom HE chooses.

Which raises that question....if those ones were “sealed” with a “guarantee” of a role in the Kingdom, where did those who lived and died (before Jesus opened the way to heaven), go when they died? What was the Jewish understanding about death?

The answer must be Scriptural and the answer is plainly stated in the Hebrew Scriptures. All the dead went to the same place, which in Hebrew was “Sheol”. It’s Greek equivalent (according to the Septuagint) is “hades”.....which is clearly not “hell” as the Jews did not believe in such a place. That was a pagan concept adopted later from the Greeks.

Did the Jews believe that “sheol” was a place of conscious existence where “souls” go when they die? NO! The Jews held no such belief, because their Scripture did not mention such a place, and God would have warned about such an afterlife to Adam as part of his penalty in the garden. All God told Adam was that he would “surely die”...and “return to the dust”....no “heaven or hell” or “immortal soul” was mentioned there.

Understanding that an afterlife was not something ever taught in Jewish Scripture, the Jews had a completely different view of death to the surrounding nations, to whom satan had already introduced the concept of an immortal soul (backing up his first lie).....”sheol” was a place of unconsciousness, the dead could not plan, think, or engage in any activity. (Eccl 9:5, 10)....Sheol was a place to “sleep” (John 11:11-14) until the coming of Messiah’s Kingdom, when the dead would be called from their graves to resume their lives here on earth, reunited with their families. (John 5:28-29) The resurrections in the Bible prior to Jesus death, were all a return to life on earth.

It was not until Jesus’ death and resurrection that the “chosen ones” were given a “heavenly calling”...something granted only to them. (Heb 3:1) Jesus had tried to teach them about their heavenly inheritance, but not until Pentecost with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, did they receive their “token”.
God implanted an inordinate desire in them to go to be with their Lord Jesus. They would go to the “place” he went to “prepare” for them “in his Father’s house”.

John 14:28-29....ESV...
“You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe.”

This makes it clear that Jesus had told them about what would take place, but until that time they would not actually believe it. Their words to Jesus upon his departure make it clear that they still retained their Jewish understanding of the Kingdom as being entirely earthly, (Act 1:6) with fleshly Israel ruling with Messiah as kings and priests.

When you gave your life to Jesus, He paid the penalty for your sins, forever, not later, but now and forever.
Yes....a good grasp of the “ransom” and Christ as “redeemer” is necessary for us to understand why Jesus had to become a sinless human in order to rescue mankind.
I do not believe that most Christians fully understand what redemption is, and how it was achieved in Jesus’ death. You first have to understand who Jesus was, and how he could die the same death as Adam....and how Jews understood redemption.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore, Glorify God in your body and in your Spirit, which are God's.
Here we have the words of the apostle Paul who was “called” after the disciples received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Paul too was baptized, and received the promised Holy Spirit.
For Jesus’ disciples prior to Pentecost, none Paul’s words there were understood.

God’s Spirit provided a clear understanding of what it meant for some humans to become “a temple for the Holy Spirit”. Did it mean though, that all Christians would have this “heavenly calling”?

All, or at least the majority of the first Christians did have this calling, but it was not set in concrete, sinful human nature could still rob a person of their place in the Kingdom....so a full commitment was necessary for those ones to retain their calling. (2 Pet 2:20-22) “Faithful unto death” was the requirement.

In order to have a “government” “upon the shoulders” of “the Prince of Peace” as Isaiah had prophesied, the ruling authority had to have subjects. What is a government or Kingdom without subjects?

Who are those subjects in your understanding Rockerduck?
