Yes, you are correct about that. I suppose I was just running with your casual approach of you saying "for decades".....My bad.Not when it's wrong, like your 7 decades nonsense.
However, the bottom line is the fact that the Jews continued their sacrificing of animals, which was an abomination to God, due to the fact that His Son's sacrifice as the innocent blood of the Lamb of God ended all animal sacrifices.
If all would read and digest Prov. 6:16-19, they would fully understand which abomination towards God highly offended Him.
"The abomination that MAKETH desolate" (Dan. 12) was the crucifixion of God's Son and the shedding of his innocent blood, by the Jews themselves.
Mat. 27
[23] And the governor [Pilate] said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
[24] When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult [Riot] was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye [Jews] to it.
[25] Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. [therein lies the confession of the Jews, taking full responsibility for the crucifixion of Jesus].
[26] Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
See also John 19:6,15.
[6] When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.
Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
[15] But they [the Jews] cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priest answered, We have no king but Caesar.
