It says he created all things so he cannot have created himself because you have to exist before creating.
Wow!....you mean God created his firstborn son, so that he could have the pleasure of working along with his Father in the creation of “all things”?
You are correct...he could not have created himself. He didn’t have to....because he is the Son, he is not his Father. He is “begotten”, which means he needed a ‘begetter’. And because he is “before all things” he was “begotten” long before anything else existed.
The one we call Jesus was not created, talking about him before incarnation.
The better translation:
Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
He was not the first to be born so this is about importance not order of literal birth.
Again, you are correct, the man Jesus did not exist before his human birth.
The son of God was “with” his Father in heaven “in the beginning” as it says in John 1:1-3.
What “beginning” is this? The Father did not have a beginning.
The Son is his “firstborn”. He did have a beginning...as he himself admitted..
“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this:...” (NASB)
He is the “Amen” and “the faithful and true Witness”.....”the beginning of the creation of God”.
All things came into existence “through” the Son, but from the Father by means of his powerful spirit.
Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
And being before all things means he was not creating himself with all the rest of creation.
Do you understand what you are reading or are you blinded by a doctrine that didn’t exist when Jesus walked the earth?
Read that verse again but in context....
“15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.”
So the human Jesus was “the image of the invisible God”.....what does the image of an invisible person look like? In what way was Jesus the image of his Father? Obviously not physically, but spiritually, possessing his qualities, which he perfectly reflected in every way. That is what an image does....it is a reflection of a reality...but not the reality itself.
“16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.”
So nothing exists apart from the Son...nothing that he didn’t have a hand in creating.....but “all things have been created through Him and for Him”...
That word “through” is used there to indicate what you are ignoring.....if something is done “through” or by means of someone else, that is called agency. We all know what an agent is as people deal with them in every real estate transactions. Movie stars and pop singers have an agent though who all things are transacted.
Agency is one party acting on behalf of another.....the Son in this Scripture and in John 1:2-3 is acting as the agency for his God...his Creator and Father.
“ 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
He existed before anything else was made.....he spent unknown eons of time alone with his Father before the creation of “the heavens and the earth”.
He brought all the angels to spirit life, individually created, each with their own unique personalities.
But humans were not created individually....they were blessed with procreative abilities....to reproduce their own kind, like the rest of God’s earthly creatures.
We don’t exist for nothing....we have a purpose here....the earth was made for us and we were made for life on the earth....there is a much bigger picture than “life and death”...”heaven or hell”....
Do you have a big picture ewq1938? Is it the picture that Christendom has painted....or the one the Bible speaks about? They are entirely different, but unless you know what the Bible teaches as opposed to what the divided church systems teach...you will never know.
