This verse is a Mystery to many:
The answer is easily found in the Bible.
Who is a famous Son of God? Jesus. When Jesus came to earth to incarnate, did he 'float down' as a fully developed humanoid? Of course not. So why apply that false logic to the Sons of God in Genesis?
What the Sons of God did in Genesis 6:4 was a similar process to how Jesus did it. The process is called 'Kenosis':
The Sons of God performed a 'self emptying' (Kenosis) and placed their essence in the so called 'wives' that they *chose* and *took*:
Let's be clear about this. These women were taken and violated. They were impregnated by a similar process in which Jesus was conceived:
The difference of course is that the Sons of God were *fallen* angels and did something that they were not supposed to. It was a counterfeit to what Mary experienced.
The results however were the same. They conceived themselves. In essence, they were their own fathers, a concept that could prove difficult for non Trinitarians.
Genesis 6:4 - There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

Matthew 1:20 - But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
