It is time to defend Christianity from Christian nationalists. … Not only is Christian nationalism a bad political philosophy, it is also faulty Christian theology...”

Thank you for your post.

The term “Christian Nationalism” has no consistent definition, but depends on the agenda of the group discussing it.

Here is what it means to me: Christian nationalism focuses on promoting Christian values in all aspects of political, cultural, and social life.

The attached article (and many others like it) implies Christian Nationalism followers seek to establish Christianity as a state religion, despite the Constitution’s clear prohibition in several places.

The only people in danger from Christian Nationalism are the moral relativists and political Muslims.

Blessings.

I think we can support some of the ideas of Christian nationalism without being a Christian. What people forget is that much of the way of life we know in the west comes from Christians.

Gods way is not just because its a religious belief. It aligns with what is naturally good and in fact reality itself. Because God is the God of nature and reality.

For example the importance of a mother and father and the family unit as the bedrock for a society. This is a fundemental truism that has been lived out over and over again throughout history and not just for Christians. Studies show that being in a long term monogamous marriage has better outcomes across the board including for children.

In that way we are not promoting any religion but what has been proven to be the best for society.

Otherwise if we don't have some foundation grounded in some truths and reality then we have no foundation at all and are open to any idea all competing as though they have equal worth. When we know they don't.

If we don't and choose to go with whatever idea rises to the top due to money or connections or an agenda. Then it is in every way another kind of religious belief dressed as a ideological right or policy. Rather than something independent of any religious belief or subjective belief about how the world is. .

Right now all governments implement ideas based on a belief rather than fact or reality. How is this not the same as forcing society to follow a certain ideological belief the same as Christian nationalism.

Nationalism, = is just as like your own imunity system ! without it your dead ! open to anything like infection.

A Vampire drinks the Blood force out of one ?

If one has a Family a real Man will regard such as his responcability. like Nationalis does it's Nation, so it's foundations are set on a Path for a Healthy Future ! it's like investing wisely !

It does not mean, not helping other Nations out for their own good, like a child that has left home is given a guiding hand ? if such a one is a bad egg ? do not incorrage such ! leave it be to it's own distruction as it is on that path. do not feed evil for evil ! that's like tossing pearls befor swine, as they will only run one through as a wild beast.

Vampires are everywhere ! they are not as TV shows. but are as if consumming ones life blood ! Carnal man is drawn to such ? for they seek power over others. for they lack in themselves. it's an inferiority complex ! because they are not Saved ! for they are not truly a Man or a Woman ! for they don't know what such clearly is in fact !

For such are drunk on their pathetic stupidity !

If Christian nationalists want to go through legal channels and change the Constitution to read: Congress shall have the power to establish a state religion and prohibit all other religions, then I couldn't say anything about it. What I've seen them doing though is using deception and false narratives about US history to create a de facto Christian state without the authority to do so.

”What is a Christian? Christians can be described from many angles, but from what we have said it is clear that we can cover everything by saying: True Christians are people who acknowledge and live under the word of God. They submit themselves without reserve to the word of God written in ‘the Book of Truth’ (Dan. 10:21), believing the teaching, trusting the promises, following the commands. Their eyes are upon the God of the Bible as their Father and the Christ of the Bible as their Savior.”

(J.I. Packer, Knowing God, p. 116)

I’m a Christian.

The nations and kingdoms of the world aren’t yet the kingdom of God. They won’t be until the Messiah returns. Maranatha.

I think primarily a Christian is someone who is born again in Christ. No longer living in the flesh but by Christs spirit. Which naturally leads to doing Gods will and obeying His word. The change in heart and mind makes a Christian want to please God as opposed to disobeying.

I think this is the difference between submitting like Christ and being a worldly leader as a matter of control over ones own life and affairs. Basically individualism as opposed to what is good and right in the greater scheme of things.

I see it as the Church trying to use political power for accomplishing Kingdom goals, while the Powers That Be try to use the Church and Christians to accumulate political power for their own goals. An unholy alliance.

Who is using whom?

“In his Homily on St. Lucian, St. John Chrysostom observed that the martyrs had responded to all of the magistrate’s questions with the identical phrase, ‘I am a Christian.’ He then commented, ‘He who answers thus has declared everything at once - his country, profession, family; the believer belongs to no city on earth but to the heavenly Jerusalem. The Apostle has said it.’

Here, summed up in a few words, are all the elements of a de facto divorce between patriotism and the Christian faith, a divorce which has its roots in the tradition of the martyrs.”

(Jean-Michel Hornus, It Is Not Lawful For Me To Fight, pp. 97-98)

It is that ancient Christian frame of mind, or consience, that would not approve of followers of Jesus killing fellow followers of Jesus in the wars of the nations.

The problem I see is that if you could have a Christian government whose version of Christianity would it be?
There wouldn't just be discrimination against other religions there would be discrimination against other Christians

I honestly still don't understand what a Christian nationalist is. So many definitions and accusations. HOWEVER- I do recall when the media began using the term-- it was pre 2016 election-- they used it in a very derogatory way aimed at Trump simply because he wanted secured borders. They turned that into meaning- racist.. It has snowballed from there... with all sorts of fears and outrage.
So if it is defined by secure borders-- yeah, I am one too.

One might think that because Christians universally embrace Love Your Neighbor, it would be a slam dunk to agree on Christian values for a country. Unfortunately, no.

One of the characteristics of Love Your Neighbor is “do no harm,” but Christians even in this forum cannot agree whether a violent defense of family is included, or if Christians can be police or soldiers.

In Matthew 18:15-17, Jesus gives us a procedure for preserving the culture of a church or community, but what to do in the face of violent rebels is left vague. In 1 Corinthians 5, the Apostle Paul provides a concrete example, but again, the final disposition of the sinner is vague.

Similarly, another characteristic of Love Your Neighbor is helping the helpless, but Christians in this forum cannot agree whether this includes a government that forcibly takes our money and redistributes it in the name of social justice. Nor do Christians in this forum agree whether borders should be secure against forceable entry, and the consequences for those entering without permission.

Blessings.

“Rev. Dr. Susan Thistlewaite … ‘Jesus’s teachings were codified under oppressive Roman rule where the supreme Roman ruler was literally a god. The ministry of Jesus is clearly a rejection of the state as a religiously sanctified (i.e., today’s Christian Nationalism). The sermon on the Mount is Jesus’ central teaching, and it does not dictate what you must believe but what is blessed (good in the sight of God). In fact, I think you can legitimately say Jesus announced the Kingdom of God was arriving and the Kingdom of Caesar would be ending. He was likely crucified for that.”

(John Fugelsang, Separation of Church and Hate, p. 26)
