The above could be likened to
Romans 1:24
24Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity,
What's interesting about that is the context of the immediately preceding verses is idolatry and lack of reverence toward God. Human depravity is God's punishment for idolatry? "Clark, that's the gift that keeps on giving."

But someone we both know came back after 5 years.
I do believe it's possible to come back.
Yes. But he did not fall away. He stepped away. and became a prodigal son

if he fell away, like hebrews said, he could not be renewed to repentance.

Jesus said He would cast out NO ONE that comes to Him.
Amen.. So this proves no one can lose salvation
Not even Jesus could convince you...
can he convince you?

is your hatred of calvinism so deep. you are willing to not see the truth.. even if it means you will be wrong?

No. You've completely missed the point of the whole letter.

The Letter to the Hebrews is NOT about mixing Torah observance with Christian beliefs. The theme and hortatory purpose of Hebrews is to exhort Jewish-Christians to "hold fast" to Christ.

5 Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later; 6 but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. (Hebrews 3:5-6)

For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end... (Hebrews 3:14)

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. (Hebrews 4:14)

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful... (Hebrews 10:23)

It's about apostacy. Falling away. The there are something like 6 warnings against falling away.
Hold fast to christ. do not return to the law.

The whole book is explainging the difference between law and grace. and telling people the law could never save anyone.

I look at it this way: If you can repent, then you haven't irrevocably fallen away.
but again, that is not what the author says

he is if they fall away.

they can not be renewed to repentance.

If I have fallen away, I have fallen away period.

the question is, is it possible for me to fall away (lose salvation) to where I need to repent again to be saved again?

Wanna make a bet?
How much?
Go check it out.
Yeah I will make a bet. He deleted my posts and probably banned me from a chatroom because I called him and others out on it.

If he believed it, he would not think a person who just believed was saved.. nor that they believed in vein, which in his view caused them to lose salvation because they did something

One sentence is going to change what the Christian church has taught for 2 thousand years?
the christian church (or so called) was ruled by rome for 1500 years..

so you can not trust anything they say, or say that not one believed otherwise..

so this would be an invalid excuse to believe somethign they maye have taught being the truth

I remember that well. When Pharoah hardened his own heart, God sent more plagues. When Pharoah was ready to fold his cards and give God what God demanded, that didn't suit God's plan, so God hardened Pharoah's heart so He could send another plague. Was that even necessary? That's one of the reasons why I'm interested in exploring this.

In the context of my college friend who converted to Judaism, she's shown no sign in the last 40+ years of wanting to return to being a Southern Baptist. A hardened heart?
did she ever have faith in the baptist church? and what they taught?

It's a very particular situation because most apostacy is a person abandoning GOD.
These jews were not abandoning God....
They were abandoning JESUS and the cross.
They still believed in God.

This is why it states that they were trampling the blood of Jesus.
But Jesus was God. so they abandoned God

they did not worship the God of heaven, they worshiped a God they made up in their own hearts.

If they came back, that's repentance by definition. You're still avoiding the "impossible to renew unto repentance" verse. But I'll quit pushing.
What I've seen is that people commonly overlook the "impossible to renew to repentance" because it won't fit their interpretation, failing to realize that they need to modify their interpretation so this part isn't a problem.

Much love!

The author assumes it is. Otherwise, why warn them six times not to leave?
did he

or was he making a suggestion.

if they fall away

if, and they can

If, but its not possibe

If and maybe the will maybe they will not?

I believe the word if is the second form

If they could fall away (if it was possible) they could never be renewed to repentence for they crucify the son of God and put him to open shame.

(in other words. Christ would have to die again for them to be resaved, which again, the law states.. ongoing sacrifice.. year after year

Consider it in terms of those who rejected Jesus in His earthly ministry. The Pharisees who demanded His death, having seen His works, heard His teaching, and still rejected Him.

Much love!

The author is dead serious. Abandoning Christ is both blasphemy and sacrilege. Does this not sound like a loss of salvation?

26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” 31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Hebrews 10:26-31, starting with the OP.)

For God's sake (and yours), don't leave.

No

Because John said they were never saved..

if we deliberately go on living in sin, have we ever been saved?

1 John 3:
4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.

7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

By the way.. Do you sin on accident when yuo sin?
