But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matt 8:12
You understand ‘the children,’ identified in this verse or as ‘the sons of the kingdom’ in this verse, based just solely on the surrounding context. They are part of the original children, the unbelieving Judahites/Jews. This is supported by its contrast with the believing children or sons of the Kingdom, such as the Centurion as an example, and the many (far more than those in Israel) coming from the West and the East outside Judea of Israel. They are understood to be the true and faithful children.

Mat 8:8 The centurion answered, “Lord, I am not worthy to have You come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
Mat 8:9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one to go, and he goes; and another to come, and he comes. I tell my servant to do something, and he does it.”

Mat 8:10 When Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those following Him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.
Mat 8:11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west to share the banquet with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 8:12 But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

To whom are you referring, the old man of flesh, or the new man of the spirit of God?
You.
Do you sin?
You cannot be both at the same time,
Romans 6:4-7,
- therefore we are buried with Jesus by baptism into  death, that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father even so we also should walk in newness of life
- knowing this that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed that henceforth we should not serve sin

- for he that is dead is freed from sin

Born again christians are not the old man of sin. That old man of sin according to Paul was put to death in baptism were when we are brought up out of our burial are of a new creation.

Romans 6:10-11,
- for in that He died He died unto sin once, but in that He liveth, He liveth unto God
- Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord

You misunderstand (yes Matthew 22:29).

"We who are alive and remain" are alive inwardly ("within") and yet remain in the flesh and in this world until the passing of our old body of flesh. Therefore, Paul spoke of "another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind"--"both at the same time."

You cannot live in the old man of sin and be born again at the same time.
Being born again puts to death the old man of sin, Romans 6:1-17.
1Thessalonians 4:15-17,
- for this we say unto you by the word of the Lord that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep
- for the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout with the voice of the archangel and with the trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first

Nothing about the old man of sin in these passages.

John was preach/teaching and proclaiming what is true, saying "we" and "us" because he is speaking at a time when many were saved, but also to many who were not yet saved--which is also true for anyone reading the words even today. Which then is confirmed by him also saying "if" (these things are true). If, if, if. Which does not make "we" or "us" categorically all saved or all not, but leaves that open to "if" it is applicable to anyone person.

Therefore, it is wrong to assume John is saying everyone listening (including himself) is one way or the other. Because, he was simply stating what was and is true,
For your interpretation of 1John 1:1-10 to make sense it would read,
- if  you say that  you have no sin,  you deceive  yourselves and the truth is not in  you

ScottA, it is you gulity of reinterpreting John's grammar to fit your personal bias.

What John really writes,
- if we say that we(John includes himself) have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us
