Is the term "Word of God" redundant?

NO!!

".... So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."

I have never seen a person delivered by just quoting the written scriptures to them
...but I have seen people deliverance by speaking the the written word with authority, under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

The name reveals the nature...and He was showing us a more of who He is.
So the word "Word" is his name? Ok. So how does the name "Word" tell us his nature? Or do the words he spoke and the words written tell us his nature?

I agree..the bible IS the Word...the written word...but the bible itself is not - "Jesus, The word."
Jesus isn't sitting on my table in the shape of my bible!!
When you open that Bible and read it, is Jesus talking to you? Its not meant to be him, its meant to be a communication between us and him. Your Bible wasn't crucified either, but its the mode of communication about it. Its just as good as if he called you on the phone and told you about it.

Now suppose that did happen and I asked who you were talking to? Would you say Jesus or would you say the voice of Jesus? If I read Mat 6 to you and asked you who's doing the talking here would you say Jesus or would you say, "Well you are FHII!" Well ... I would be the obe talking... But the words were Jesus's.

So knowing that Jesus was The Word tells nothing about his nature. Knowing what the Word's word said does.

The Word was God. So the term, "Word of God" would mean "God of God".

Sorry... It wasn't meant to be taken that seriously.

Correct me if I am in error, but the even the Apostle Paul did not have a personal face to face encounter with Jesus (as you claim to have). He definitely received it "...by the revelation of Jesus Christ." Something like a vision.

So, the Bible is the revelation of God. A personal Jesus is not needed to receive revelation from God.
The carnal mind can not receive the things of the Spirit.

Jesus rebuked the scribes and Pharisees saying that they searched scripture believing that in them they would find eternal life, but that they testified of Him. The real purpose of scripture is to show us who God is in the person of His Son. Some would say its a love letter to humanity. I think both are true, yet the biblical scholars of Jesus' time (as a man on Earth), even with the myriad of biblical signs that He performed, rejected Him and condemned Him to death. The Holy Spirit convinces us of truth, not scripture, or everyone who's read the Bible would have believed it.

And teh diff is???? If you had teh truth you would not need to get so loud, its what people do when they "demand" you listen like our mate BOL who just cant help himself. Jesus had no need to "get Loud" He just stated things as they where, neither did He go out to offend any one, but as you see many took offense. Does it not say,

Mat 24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Mat 24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
Mat 24:10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
Mat 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Mat 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

It is simply crazy that"christians" who claim to have teh truth, should take offense. If you have teh truth what is there to get offended about???

Luk_7:23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

Be blessed in Him.

And again do you see me making "big" text to make a point. I have no need, you can take it or leave it. No skin off my nose.

God gave us His best, His Spirit, why is he made nothing more than a bible teacher??

Hi KBCid
Then let me say that we should all be heretics.
If we don't adhere to scripture, many problems arise.
For instance:
One particular denomination has made certain declarations about Mary, the mother of Jesus. These declarations are not found in scripture.
As time went by problems arose because of these declarations...
So NEW ones had to be made. Not only that, but they were declared dogma - which means that a person of that denomination MUST believe the statements are true.
Adhering to scripture prevents this type of problem from happening in the first place.
How else could we learn about God?

again truth.
The spirit within me leaps for joy when truth is not mixed with lies.

You indeed have no veil over your eyes on the points you have made. Mary was special to the Father and Christ but like any other Jewish woman she had other children and when she died she like any other being awaits the resurrection to live again. Praying to her or any of the saints who died was never a direction from God nor any of their inspired writers. Christ never says "pray to my mom and she will intercede between me and you". Christ is the one and only intercessor between the Father and man.
The books of God's inspired words were written as holy men were inspired to write "a record" of what God has said. The record is a testament given to man from God that we may learn about our maker and why we should love them. It is also the yardstick of comparison to divide good from evil.

You have made me feel very good GodsGrace on Gods holy day. thx.

Hi KBCid,
Who's "truths of Christian faith and practice" that were found from "scripture alone" do I follow?
Angelican's? Baptist? Calvinist? Catholic? KBCid? Orthodox? Pentecost?
They all have different "truths" they "established from scripture alone".
Mary

If the traditions defined by the many denominations starting with the one developed in the 3rd century were from scripture alone then there would be no error.
The truth KBCid states is that "men should not follow mans traditions but should live by every word of the mouth of God alone" sound familiar?

Deut 8:3 .....that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live

Who is the truth, I am teh way the truth and the Life, who is??? Jesus. Many have studied all there lives and never come into the truth. A vessel already filled cannot be filled unless it is emptied first. Who is wiling to be emptied???

How do the deaf hear God's words?

God gave man his Son.
Christ will ask the father to give the Holy spirit to those he wants to.
The Holy spirit is "the helper" given to the sheep who know his voice and make a choice of their own free will to follow / emulate his ways. As a helper the Holy spirit is used by the person to guide them into all truth and understanding as they seek to emulate Christ.

The Holy spirit is not given to everyone who states they believe in him.

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The bible does not say that, it says He inspired teh scriptures, teh OT, so which part is scripture and which part is mens opinions. The bible is written of mens eye witness accounts, a good many years after the fact, when 2 different accounts disagree in a court of law the evidence cannot be used it is unreliable, is God unreliable.. The "canon" was put together by the RCC who had an ulterior motive, even KJ teh one I use, He himself determined how some things where translated because HE too has an ulterior motive, there fore even His version is unreliable, than we have the "copyright issue" can you copyright Gods word, of course not how foolish do you think God is.
Now go look up the word " church" and see how it was mistranslated by men, who had good reason too, Suddenly that building full of people with its religious hierarchy looks quiet foolish.

Here you are making a good point.
We as a group should all be clear on this.

"""The word of God as it was originally given and written by the inspired writers is God's word."""

Translations of those original writings have the potential and do in many places fail to convey the original intent of God's word because the translators were not the inspired original writers. These failures of conveyance is where we get a great many diversions of beliefs.
I personally was guided to learn ancient Hebrew because of my desire to better understand the intent of the scriptures when they seemed to be in controversy and I have found that there is entire world of misunderstanding that falls away as you gain understanding of the original words.

me too, but you mean "proselytize," which i do not believe was ever intended
one witnesses by manifesting Christ now, denying themselves in Living Sacrifice as an example, not by making a logically compelling argument for God, iow

You are right that we should be a "Living Sacrifice as an example" but you come up short when you say we should not make compelling argument as well. Christ was our example, he came with both words and actions to exemplify that a true reflection of the Father is one in thought and deed.

If you "love thy neighbour as thyself" wouldn't you think that helping your neighbor find the God of love the neighborly thing to do?
