I just read that in reality it was two plants passing each other, looking like a new star...but I believe it was a God thing, and a God sign.
Same as the three hours of darkness and the veil of the temple was rent.

Joseph A. Seiss in his book 'The Gospel In The Stars', devotes a whole chapter on the star of Christ. I encourage any to read it. In short, he shows how the astronomical signs of the Zodiac are God's ancient revelation, which is supported in Scripture. And during the time of the birth of Christ a new star appeared in the Decan of Virgo, Coma, which is the sign of the 'Infant accompanying Virgo'. It is Seiss's opinion that this is that star of Christ.

An expectation and revelation had to be associated with this star that would cause the magi to take such a long journey. The magi knew it was leading them to a divine and holy One Who was worthy of their worship and gifts. They had to have been expecting and looking for a sign. Yet they were Gentiles separated from Israel and did not know or have the Scripture.

Do you know much about it? Any theories? :)

This star behaved like no other star.
It indicated the place were Jesus was.
Go into your garden on a clear night and look up at the stars. How does a star indicate where one house is?
Yes there was a astronomical indication that a 'King' had been born and Danial had taught the school of wisemen that the 'King@ would be in Israel so they headed there.
As to the star over Bethlehem I can only assume it was supernateral.

Yes I too believe it was supernatural, God put it there to guide the wise man to Jesus, he did the same in the Old Testament too with cloud pillars.

There is a book by Colin Nicholl called "The Great Christ Comet" in which he makes a very good case for the 'star' being a comet (apparently comets, like planets, were regarded simply as a type of star in ancient times). It certainly convinced me.

A mere planetary conjunction would not have been spectacular enough; also, planetary conjunctions were predictable and relatively frequent, so would not have been regarded as anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks Deborah. Another good interesting post. I must try and find that.
Good to see you, it has been 'a while'. :)

GINOLJC, to all. addressing the OP. why is everyone looking to the sky for a star? where in scripture it say the star was in the sky. or is it just an assumption that the word star make one look to the sky?.

we might want to reconsider that the star is not a heavenly luminary.

Peace in Yeshua.

I guess because it is like looking for fish in water as that is where they are found!
It says " It appeared in the east" It also says " it stood over the place where He lay." ... that speaks of UP! :)

But you have written a teaser...and I would like to see you write the rest.lol

not saying that you're right or wrong, consider this. Read Luke 2:15-20. these angels also announce the Lord arrival. but in Matthews account, it said, "HIS" star.

Peace in Christ Yeshua.

first thanks for the response, but let me ask you this, the shepherd "STOOD OVER" watching their sheep. was they up?

Can one be OVER without being above?
A mother stand over her sleeping child...she looks down on him...so she must be looking down, from above , right?

Keep going .... :)

True "HIS" star, which means His sign does it not?
But, keep going...you obviously have more thoughts here than you are sharing yet.

ok... (smile) I put you over a company, are you above it or...

I would be the head of it. But, that said...it could not be "seen in the East"..
If I bumped into someone from the company in the elevator , they would not know that I was "over them, or their head".

Looking forward to see what you make of 'the Star....'
....later...H

Do you all know about the Rosetta mission?
-2004, NASA launches a probe to land on a comet in 10 years! In 2014
-Comet - 84,000 mph...Size 1.5 x 2.4 x 3.1 miles
-using Kepler's, born 1571, calculations

So using Kepler's computer program a man shows the exact sky in Jesus's day.
Here, in the link below, he shows amazing things...much more than the sky back then...
if you hang in there and watch. ( 1 is what was going on that caused the skies to grow dark and other things on the day Christ died.)

This is a movie, an hour long on you tube...many never take the time to watch it.
I own 2 DVD's of it, one to loan out. :]
This documentary made me drop my mouth in awe of God's brilliant Mind.
I hope on a cold winter night around this Christmas time you find time to be blown away and humbled! ;]
