Not sure this would fit the classic description of a 'testimony', but I am totally convinced that it was a supernatural experience nonetheless. I wasn't even sure what I should name this thread. The moderators can move this thread to wherever it may belong if not here, this will be relatively short and to the point. This happened a few months back after my mother died from cardiac arrest. I asked God to give me a sign as I stood over my mothers corpse in the hospital, and holy dog biscuits did I get one. It certainly was not the answer I expected, maybe I was too vague in my request.

Day's after her funeral, I eventually started backsliding on prayer. Then one night while I was in bed, I suddenly started feeling something putting its hands all over me. I screamed like I never screamed before in my life, swinging, kicking like a mad dog, and when I started kicking, it actually felt like there was someone standing right next to my bed. My ironing board was right next to my bed, it would have been on the floor as hard as I was kicking. This was no dream, or "night terror". I prayed for a sign, and received his message loud and clear. I still almost have trouble breathing just thinking about it because it was such a vivid experience.

Sounds like you may need to set some mouse traps? :)
And I suspect that the "someone" standing next to your bed, was your ironing board?

Common side effects of Ambien include: dizziness. Other side effects include: hallucination.

Semi joking here, but I don't think God answers prayer by molesting or scaring a person half to death?

If scaring King Belshazzar to death wasn't his intention, then he sure as hell did regardless. I'm sure you know the story, but if not, then you can always give God the glory for Google. :)

I asked God to give me a sign
Why?
Have you never read Jesus's comment about those who kept asking him for 'a sign'?

As for your experience. How has it changed how you regard Jesus?
If it has increased your love for him then you can be sure it is from God.
If all it has done is terrify you then it is not from God. That is unless you are not a Christian and it has caused you to seek God urgently.

I've always been a believer, a Christian on the otherhand, not so much. Its not a term a believer who knows the word of God should even use to describe himself anyway. Nothing has really "changed" or increased except more of a fear of the Lord, that thing that is the beginning of wisdom.........which ain't "love", that other thing that is emphasized by the pack of wolves here and elsewhere more than anything.

A believer, a believer in what? A believer in God? or a believer that Jesus died and rose again for your sins?

As for using 'Christian' as a name or title for what belief people have.
That is based on Acts 11 :26, The disciples were first called CHRISTIANS in Antioch.

Jesus is God......so yes, that he put away sin on the cross. The pagans in Antioch gave us the term Christian. The disciples never referred to themselves as "Christians" before it was imposed on them by the worldly in Antioch. Jesus himself never called himself "Christian". If you wish to refer to yourself as Christian, then knock yourself out, its not a salvation issue either way.

The pagans in Antioch gave us the term Christian.
That's an assumption. It is not presented as a derogatory label in Scripture. Evidently Antioch had a large Jewish population, so pagans were not predominant.

Anyhow, your experience does not sound like a sign from God. It appears to be a demonic attack.

Shortly after my grandfather died a shampoo bottle fell off the shelf in the bathroom at night. It was quite stable and has only fallen that once.

Its possible it was an attack, something I'm not necessarily a stranger to experiencing. I believe I had one before (of which I sent packing in the name and authority of Jesus), it just wasn't nearly as vivid as this recent one. I'm not totally ruling it out as a sign from God either however. Scripture after all makes it quite clear that God has some devious snakes up there with him who would be more than willing to lie for instance, among other things.

(1 Kings 22:19-23) "And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. {20} And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth–gilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner. {21} And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him. {22} And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so. {23} Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee."

Yes, a liar sanctioned by God. If they are willing to lie, then what else are they willing to do? To assume what God would or would not do or sanction his pals to do is to claim to know more about God, what heaven is like, and more about the hosts thereof than what is written in his word. These "hosts of heaven" are also commonly known as the "congregation of the mighty", or "divine council", and I'm pretty sure Satan was apart of this "congregation" before he was kicked off, him being the former "anointed Cherub".

(Psalms 82:1-2) "God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. {2} How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah."

He has ultimate power and authority, but he wants his creation, his "hosts" to participate in the worlds affairs as well. They aren't just sitting around doing nothing.

ah, you mean "so pagans were obviously predominant" i guess

 No I'm sure he is trying to say that the disciples were referring to themselves in the third person as Christian when it clearly suggests otherwise. They never preached to anyone else but the Jews after all.

ah i guess the Ethiopian guy blows that out of the water; if Jesus' stay with the Samaritans didn't
But i do agree that the language suggests otherwise than that they referred to themselves as Christian anyway;
"followers of The Way" or "Nazarenes" seems much more likely.
"Christ" would have been a Roman term to them, Caesar deemed himself a "Christ," etc, as did many other monarchs

In my life, whenever I have had an dramatic encounter with God or angels..
it is always accompanied by an amazing peace.
This experience doesn't have that on it...in other words...it does not have the 'finger prints ' of God upon it.
I'd say that attack was not God at all.

Bless you...Helen

I have peace alright......in knowing with absolute certainty that God isn't one to be trifled. His finger was on my experience....perhaps by taking his finger off me. The day of the Lord would be considered a "dramatic encounter", but it won't be accompanied by "peace" for the world, but of dread. I asked for a 'sign', and he gave me exactly the sign he knew I needed. ;)

Fear of the Lord is indeed the beginning of wisdom...

Heb 10:30-31

We know the one who said: "Vengeance is mine; I will repay," and again: "The Lord will judge his people."

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God
.

But perfect love drives out all fear:

1John 4:18

There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment, and so one who fears is not yet perfect in love

Peace!

May I ask why did you ask for a sign? What did you wanted a sign from God for? What did that sign confirm for you?

I wonder if he is moving to God's truth and satan comes in fast to steal it from him? Was always told that satan will leave the unbelievers alone pretty much but, if/when one is starting to see TRUTH-that is satans Que to attack so they get discouraged and stop seeking. JMO :)
