This is just a note that we will be keeping an eye on topics and particularly those who feel the need to copy & paste their theology into multiple threads/topics in short amounts of time. While I do like to keep discussion as open as possible, I don't think anyone really cares to scroll down past the first 5+ threads with your personal theology in them. Discussion and debate is one thing, but this is entirely another. I will remind folks that this is a forum and it means input from others - not just yourself. If you feel the need to place your doctrines all over, I might suggest either looking into your own personal website or at least using the blog.

If this continues we might have to look at doing away with the ability to copy and paste. One article or thought here and there is fine, but please use the common-sense rule of moderation. If the first five posts in a given forum are yours and they each contain 10k+ word essays/articles posted in the last 24 hours or less, then you're probably not following the rules very well. ;)

When i see a copy and paste job i mostly disregard it and move onto the next post where the poster is giving their own thoughts using their own words. There are a few serial offenders in here who simply cut and paste a flood of wordy articles from their theological masters and think they will be shown to be right by the numerous words.

There is no point addressing the points of an article when the one who produced it is not present.

many other people would rather read from the masters they often said things so clearly and preciously some one of their same beliefs-- simply could not state it so well.

if one has two wreches one he made that does not always seem to fit so well or one made by a fine tool company highly polished strong and preciously fitting the bolt you want to turn ..
Which one would you rather use,, on that jaguar your retsoring .. i would take the better tool that fits properly if i had the choise.. most others would to..

if we had more copy and paste theology using those who said it well . Their would be better understanding amoung christian people..
and a more level playing field . one christian not make the other christian out ---as stupid ..

Well horsecamp, while I do understand where you are coming from, you have to understand the other side of it as well. I cannot speak for Adstar, but I would assume we have the same view in that "copy & paste" theology is not referring to taking the works of this or that Theologian, preacher, etc. so much as someone who clearly copy and pastes their own verbose material.

This thread was made with the latter in mind. We experienced an epidemic at this time where members typed up pages and pages of material on their desktops and would run around forums posting it. They would post it here at CB once (or more on many occassions) and it could be found in other communites verbatim. These threads would max out the words allowed in a topic and would end up posting in the first 4-5 posts in a single topic. I could copy and paste the line in Google and I'd see it on 7 other Christian forums word for word.

In the worst case scenarios, people would actually copy and paste these long essays/books in threads as replies which may or may not address the original discussion. Sometimes it became a staff issue to sit there and read 10 screens of material to try and determine if it's at all germane to the 1 line question.

That kind of stuff stifles discussion and wastes time and the folks that post it never seem to realize that the reason people aren't posting anything else is because there is nothing to post. This is not a place that desires to be full of verbose soapbox posts with 0 replies. It benefits no one.

That is just straight up lazy these guys should be banned from the interents. I frequent a sports forum and this even happens in the middle of a discussion about baseball rules or something. The lengthiest threads are all a bunch of religious guys and atheists cutting and pasting from their respective favorite e journal.

The staff have decided that a rule about copy paste is necessary. But we are making it more general, about flooding the forum.

Devotionals are still OK.
Posts by most members to date are OK.
If you use this forum as a place to dump your collected theological essays, it is not ok.
We still have blogs available, and those will not be restricted.

"No flooding the forum, if your post stretches over multiple screens it may be too long. Needing to sift through an essay about someone's theology to figure out their point hinders discussion. Excessively long or successive posts may be subject to deletion at the moderator's discretion. This rule does not apply to blogs."

So.... does this mean it is ok to quote some people, so long as it is not quoting their whole book, right?

Right, we still allow copy paste to a degree.

I think this is understandable and reasonable when the C/P is short and is used as a "starter" segment of prose or "thought" that is then elaborated upon by others. After all, that is exactly how we often use Scripture on here.

Net Chaplain does this flooding on a regular, scheduled basis. I see the same thing he posts on at least six different forums. (His sermon for us.... one every single week of the year.)

The sermons are usually short and infrequent. He wouldn't run afoul of this rule.
