This is what Scripure says...

Acts 2:37-38
38 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Have you come through the door or the window? Have you come in obedience to God's provided way or have you been tought wrong by some denomination?

This command is so simple yet I find so few are willing to subject themselves to this truth. This is Scripture! If you have not...

Repent! And be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ

But what does it mean to be IN the name?

Being "in the name" is much more than simply saying "in the name of Jesus" when we are praying. People say that there is power in the name and there is but the key is to be "IN" the name. At a neighborhood bar room people may regularly say the word, "Jesus" with their mouths but never are "IN" the name.

When a person is in the name completely isn't it that he has the mind of Christ? Do all of us have the mind of Christ all of the time? If we did, we certainly wouldn't sin at all, would we?

I believe that a person can be in the name without saying the name or even without knowing the name in his carnal mind. A number of people in the OT [at least, in a measure], I believe were in the name before any prophet knew what that name was in order to be able to speak it with his mouth.

Wasn't Elijah in the name when he was confronting the 400 prophets of Baal?

Wasn't David 'a man after God's own heart' and the 'apple of God's eye', also in the name or in His name, when God was inspiring him to write many of the psalms attributed to him in the Bible?

Neither Elijah nor David knew that the name of the savior was to be "Jesus" or "Yeshua" or any other spoken name, which man has applied to the Savior in the flesh, unless it was Immanuel.

Yet, were not both of them, and others, in the name or in His name long before the time of John the Baptist?

The following verse gives us more about this, does it not?

"For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another)" Rom 2:14-15

Were those not also in some measure in the name when they did the right things without having heard the spoke word, "Jesus"?

Following that.….. Not one of us was baptized in the same Aramaic name Mary or the Apostles used when speaking to the one we call, Jesus, in the English language.

See why we need to be careful when we start playing these games we were warned not to engage in? (Not directed at your post.... just trying to show how far out of reason we can get if we chase all these "Greek" ear-tickling rabbit trails)

Agree @amadeus @Willie T It means "In the nature of" , the authority of ... for the nature is in the name... As we see via the early OT people who were given names when born, through prophesy.

God Himself uses so many different names for Himself to reveal His nature to us. As He Himself said... I AM.

So the name of Jesus Christ is good enough to pray in, cast out devils in, to be called upon when in trouble? But better be carefull not to get baptised in it like the Bible tells us to do. How does that ad up? Do you even believe that we are saved through the Blood of Jesus Christ?

You know, I knew right from the start that this thread would end up being a discussion
about being baptized in Jesus Name or being baptized in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

Personally I have been baptized in Jesus Name.

Others in my family have been baptized the other way.
And to be honest, why would it have to be an issue?

One of my relatives was told she should be re-baptized.
(Now she does not want to go to that church anymore......)

Do people really think it matters anything to Jesus or God?

Couple of weeks ago I was in an UPC Church and there were new people attending. The pastor told them right of the bat that they needed to be rebaptized. (In the sermon).

These people did not come back.

So why not just keep it Scriptural? Why accept a substitute? Why do it another way? How do you come to the conclusion that God is just going to accept it? Because in the Scripture I read

Acts 4:10-12
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

No other Name whereby you must be saved!

"No." My post was about us making some sort of "law" that whenever we do ANY of those things, it becomes a requirement that the action has to be accompanied with the verbal uttering of a certain name.

Who said the baptism saves you? But it definitely is the first step, whether you go all the way is another story. But most have not even got to first base.

1 Peter 3:21
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ

A Scriptural requirement. Or are we the children of disobedience?

Fish,
Jesus did not come to give men even more and more "Laws" that they would then have to be sure to also do "just right", or else be just as damned as they already were under the old system that His sacrifice of Himself replaced.

Oh dear Jesus got it wrong when he said 'Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.'

What with incorrect baptisms, not honouring a name I don't know how to pronounce, not being wealth or healthy it is clear I am a very poor Christian.

Thank God that not only does the Spirit knows all my thoughts and motives but my desire to serve God.
That Jesus knew my weaknesses before he made me yet he still chose me and save me and will keep me safe.

Otherwise I would be lost.

But there is still a right or wrong way to approach God. And you only have to be baptized by water once, if it's done in the correct way. How do you bypass a direct Scripture like this?

Howcome is this so offensive to people? It's pathetic ifvyou ask me. We should want to do anything He asks of us.

Works is faith expressed. If you believe, you will do. It just tells me you don't believe. Can't you even obey one little thing? You just do and believe what you want it seems, as does the majority Christians.

You might as well give your Bible to someone who will actually believe it.

No it's you who got it wrong. Do you think really Matthew 28:19 annull Acts 2:38?

Just shows you. No wonder Christianity is in such a bad shape.

The Legalism you want to impose upon people is what is "so offensive."
