What is highly esteemed among men(mankind).
Stature?
Position?
Reputation?
Money?
Power?
Pride?
Beauty?
Control?
Strength?
How about War? Or could it all be summed up by ...FLESH. But there is more isn’t it: to maintain, keep, feed, to not let go of...the fight to live and to not die to the world. It( the flesh)holds on tight so fearful of loss.
But God says it is when we lose our life that we find it. What is lightly esteemed? ...Love? Spirit? The first response may be an automatic “NO, that is not so.” Then what does this world; lust and greed do to love? What does flesh do to love?
Luke 16:14-15
[14] And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. [15] And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
Hebrews 8:10-13
[10] For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: [11] And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. [12] For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. [13] In that he saith, A new covenant , he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
That which decayeth and waxeth old and that which remains:
Matthew 7:22-27
[22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? [23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. [24] Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: [25] And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. [26] And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: [27] And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
Do we want to be built on shifting sand that waxeth old and passers away? Great was the fall of it.
Or do we build on the Rock?
...that fell not.
