I ran across an old bible I had in the closet, one given to me by the pastor of the little country Baptist church we started going to after Jesus came to my house and saved me.
I was happy to find that I'd written the date of my baptism on one of the blank pages.
Frank Jennings and Jimmy Jennings were baptized in White Oak bayou on Saturday February 11th,1978. This is a small backwater of the Arkansas River and was covered with ice. We took driftwood and broke the ice that covered the shaded water.
I also found that I'd written the following about the cross. The date was about 1983.
The cross is very big. Jesus is no longer on the cross but we must continue to look there and be reminded of what he did. No matter how long you have been saved, how many of God's miracles you have witnessed. No matter how many revelations you have received, if you are on the straight and narrow path that you were first set on, you will always be able to see the cross.
The shortest distance between the cross and our eternal home in heaven is a straight and narrow path. Since the cross and heaven lie on the same path we understand that should we leave that path we can no longer have a clear view of our destination or our beginning at the cross. To stay aligned on the path we must always stop and look back at the cross. The cross is so big that no matter how many years we walk it will always be in sight when we look back.
Since God has given us perfect spiritual sight we can always see the blood stains left there by Jesus, son of God, who died there. Rains, winds, doctrines, traditions of the centuries have not washed away that blood. It is the eternal blood of God's covenant and is inseparably bonded with the cross. You cannot see the cross without seeing the blood of the covenant. When I look at the cross I remember where God brought me from and where I'm going and it strengthens me to walk on.
Thinking about this after I'd read it the Holy Spirit said "publish the cross". I often blink when He speaks in my spirit since I know that I've heard something not from my own thoughts. So Ive posted it here.
