Two of my sons had already had tattoos and one night they both asked me what tattoo I would get. I responded with ... ' don't be daft, why would I get one.'

Butterfly: Do you think your sons (& daughter?) have finished getting ink now?

Often if one family member is still getting ink, other family members end up still being open to the idea also.

Some ppl prefer an unmodified simplicity, which is fine.

Well, okay. I guess some Christians would reckon that like the apparent criticism on Leviticus 19 of trimming beards as well as not cutting for the dead, it's not carried forward to the New Testament, but we won't argue.

Do you think that some of the tattoo artwork these days is really superb, though? (irrespective of your personal lack of inclination).

I will only say that I will be called greater in the kingdom because I believe that the whole of the OT law applies (Matthew 5:17-20). However, if you don't, it doesn't put you out of the kingdom: it only means you will be called less in the kingdom...

I would see grace as the operative principle (Ephesians, Galatians; rather than law-keeping) in the church.

So I can understand Christians pragmatically using ink as a proven effective witness means.

I would say that law-keeping, when the motivation is love for God rather than seeking to be justified, is biblical as a practice (and something that we ought to do), according to Hebrews 8:8-10, Hebrews 10:16, Romans 8:4, Romans 8:7, and Romans 5:5 w/ Galatians 5:14, Romans 13:8-10, 1 John 5:3, and 2 John 1:6.

I knew many of an older generation among men [males] who had gotten one or more tattoos while on active duty in the military. I never met one who did not regret having gotten his tattoo(s).

Thanks for your comment! Maybe if today more ppl went to the parlor as individuals (albeit sometimes with friends and family to give them moral support) and got tattoos that were well planned and deliberately chosen in their design and placement, then there would be less regrets, right?
