Would appreciate direction to on-line study tools. Maybe some of your favorites. Thank you all in advance.

I use a number of different sources for Bible study and they all have their limitations.

I mainly use PCstudybible which I brought as a package, and occasionally Logos which I find difficult to use. On line I tend to use Biblehub.com which is reasonable within its limitations.

The trick that I have come to apply is not to use any particular study tool outside of its limitations. That meant that I had to come to understand the limitations of all of the study tools that I use. I had to understand that all study tools had a particular bias, like a denominational slant, and/or theological understanding. That commentaries needed to be treated with caution. That all translations of the source reference texts had their limitations as well, are reflected in the biases of the committee that worked together on that particular translation.

Most of all I had to learn how to allow God to bring the revelations that were needed and promptings to question the translation that I was reading. When I was able to figure out what the original text was saying, the context of the translation was often misrepresenting the original source texts.

I wish you well in your searching for the truth of the total Biblical gospel message of salvation for all of mankind.

Shalom

imo you are best served by finding a non-determinist site, i like the Abarim but if you can find another i would love to know about it. Run from anyone following "this is that, and that is this, and here are the facts, and there is the proof" type stuff iow, and seek those who lay out both/all sides and allow you to make your own choices on what you will believe

I was searching for verse(s) on Melchizedec, was amazed at all the stuff that came up as I thought he/it was only mentioned 1-2 times in OT. Clicked on one that took me to truthbook. Very interesting, til that hair on end thing started happening. Anyways, now when I do a search it and something called urantia keeps coming up. So thank you all. Does anyone know how to keep it from hijacking my searches. Useful sites do come up, but usually at the bottom of search. I will check out all sites given. Again thank you.

Melchizedek is mentioned in Hebrews 7, and the mention is so significant because the Old Testament law system revolved around the Levitical priesthood, but Hebrews 7.12 says that the Levitical priesthood was changed. Instead, the Lord Jesus is made a priest for ever according to order of Melchizedek, not Levi. So the law which revolved around the Levitical priesthood was changed and what we now have is better than the law, Hebrews 7.19.

Great :( cleaned cache, it seems to have helped as far as these places aren't coming up in searches at this time. I am on cell a phone. No cable, no wifi, no pc... and I take pleasure in that. Lol It gives me more bible time. Guess I should try updating antivirus as it shows everything ok. Thank-you if I'm not in for awhile, everything crashed.

Blessings

Yes, the Bible search applications can help a lot; although if the system crashes or the compute battery runs out of juice, etc., it's back to square one, for a while at least...

Bible Gateway and Bible Hub are both helpful, although you can't copy and paste from the latter.

As far as help with interpretation, online sources are actually highly unpredictable, so you have to exercise a fair amount of discernment in what you're reading. I can usually pick up fairly quickly what the website's writers are about and what perspective they are coming from. But I'm usually just looking for scripture itself, not interpretations of it. So in general the more scripture a website provides and the less commentary, the better.

One helpful source is the "verses about [blank]" websites, like this:
26 Bible verses about Fasting, Practice Of
If you google "verses about _____," you can get a quick topical collection on just about anything, and compare verses with each other.

I also use Septuagint Online for Old Testament stuff, and the Online Greek Bible when I need to copy and paste from the original.

The copy and past capabilities of Bible Gateway are certainly useful, yes.

Maybe @Acolyte will find Bible Gateway really helpful...
