From: Truth, lies and Tony Blair's third way
"I have always found it almost impossible to accept that Mr Campbell "inserted" the 45-minute claim into the September dossier, because interfering with hard information about the real world is not his thing.
The real world itself is not his thing. He is not a man for acting on the concrete stuff of empirical existence. He and his alter ego, Tony Blair, scarcely impact on the world at all: they are ghostly presences who live in a parallel universe of illusion, of what seems to be rather than of what is.
In this realm of Appearance, the test of what is true is not, "Can it be verified by physical proof?", but "Does it sound convincing?" What matters in politics is not what happens, but what you can make people believe has happened."
Janet Daley, 'Truth, lies and Tony Blair's Third Way'.
So the grim moral is, as regards opinions voiced on Brexit also, don't be surprised if a similar approach is taken.
I think some of that could describe many leaders, past and present, this side of the pond and the other side of it !!!!
