Me, I want a translation that gives me the "intent" of a passage, in today's language, rather than the exact "word" used in a culture thousands of years ago.

Iow, if the original was, "In a pig's eye!", I don't really care about hearing about the anatomy of swine. I simply want to know they meant, "BS!"

I agree with you there, too, however the intent of a passage is often masked dialectically, so I wouldn't wanna rely on that tranny only either I guess. The Today's English V is bad about that in some spots imo

Surely you didn't mean your comment to be directed at "Passover" specifically, I'm assuming

Php 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
Php 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

I just long to know Christ

Well, if you aren't able to access a lexicon a scribe could basically insert any term they like and you would have no means of verifying a translation. We get an impression of like a team of the Dedicated Faithful gathering together prayerfully to render a new tranny, but I guess it doesn't really work like that, note "Easter" in the KJV, etc, not even trying to stay true to the orig iow. Regardless of your position on Easter ok. Hmm, I guess actually not regardless of it huh lol

Showing how little you know about bible translation and the history of the bible.
Look at the footnotes in any good translation. You will see about once a page there is a word or pharase where there is an alternative or questionable option.

Even atheist commentators on the bible agree that we can be 95% certain that the bible is an accurate translation.

funny you mention that, as I am now convinced the Bible was written from the Eastern Dialectic, and I don't see anyone talking about this. But all one need do is ref the "Scribes" passages in Scripture I guess; we are clearly told their role, and I seriously doubt that has changed.

that doesn't mean that ppl with bad intent are translating the Bible so much as that ppl can only translate from their own understanding, ergo ppl--in this case what we might call "medieval" ppl--seeking a meaningful appellation for God might naturally associate Him with their "Lords," and similar reflections

so imo while the first might be helpful, it is basically another person's interpretation, that we are now calling a "translation," right?
