What does this look like to you, in action.

"John 13:35 “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

Hi Nancy,

Perhaps if I ask, what is love in God's terms?

Much of the same!

Hmm, unconditional? Everlasting as He is everlasting. His Love is something we strive for but, will never reach the height, depth, length, and fullness of it as only He is eternal as is His Love ♥
Love for one another is something different for me as, we CANNOT love one another as He loves us yet, we can certainly show Agape! And, we are called to love the unlovable, the downcast, the poor, the needy, the beggars, IOW-our neighbor ♥.
Sorry if I "waffled" as @"ByGrace" would say, lol (must be an English term, :) )
In Him Always...and He is faithful ALWAYS!

Community in the Spirit. Supernatural love, supernatural power...supernatural witness of light to a world in darkness.

Now, that's a fine vision sir! Do you even think this is even possible in the mainline, Evangelical Church?

How well do we show love for those whom we esteem the least?

Do they realize that we love them?

How do we actually act and feel? Those who we see as the worst of the worst . . .

Much love!

For me, Christian love is my commitment to the wellbeing of others, even to my own hurt if that's what it takes.

Much love!

I think many denominations come out of a revival. But the denomination itself is just the man-made attempt at preserving something that God did among His people long ago.

There is a counsel of God that says...don't go back to Bethel, or Gilgal...IOW God moves on...don't try preserving what God once did. People even see themselves as permanently saved for a one time experience with God. It's the same disconnect from reality.

Of course we are to remember these things.

I remember going to a church building one time and a man there asked me if I knew what that place was about. I said no, I didn't. So he said his church is a denomination from the Welsh revival. Now I looked at him strangely...the Welsh revival was in Wales not in Montreal...and was over a hundred years ago. The guy was not over 50 yrs old.

I think that is the kind of disconnect it takes to feel a part of a denomination separated from others based on something that happened once upon a time.

What about the early church experience?

It would take people putting their faith in God again.

Just prior to that verse Jesus washes the disciples feet, he humbled himself to do something that was considered ' beneath him ' he demonstrated humility.
I think the love Jesus mentions is a different kind of love, it was one that would stand out and be noticed as being different to the way the world loves.
I did have a train of thought- it's gone, I'm tired !! Lol

Much love!

We treat them with dignity. We treat them with compassion. We don't judge them. We look them in the eyes and smile, simply, we Agape love them. We don't plug our noses and walk away (at some who's hygiene is lacking)- telling any or everyone who will listen "how much that man, or women stinks"!
If one were to tell me many years back, that I would one day have compassion for such people, I would have laughed in their face. Since praying to have such compassion, I see these lost souls in a different light. It's awesome, even the smallest gesture can make their day and you can see it in their (mostly) returned smile...some even beam! Lol.
So, I did not always have the "feeling" until God changed my heart ♥

Being there for people: seeing each individual as they really are, listening to each, serving each, loving each.

Years ago I heard a preacher address the issue of why Christians were afraid of going into pubs and mingling with ' the ordinary world ' - he relayed that so many Christians are afraid of ' being contaminated ' by non believers - he went on to say something that I will never forget, he said ' aren't we suppose to contaminate others with Jesus , and how will we do that if we steer clear of the very people we are suppose to be contaminating ! '
At the time I was often going to the pub after church because my husband was part of a pub quiz team, I had to try and juggle ' being a Christian and being married to a non Christian ' I was part of a church that had so many rules about Sunday's - and boy did they let me know how awful I was for ' sharing time with family and my husband if it incurred going against their rules. They had a problem with me and another member going to the pub quiz - but what they didn't get, was our motives. It wasn't to get drunk, it was to ' come alongside ' our families and friends.
When I eventually left that church they were upset because ' I had such a high regard in the village and they were worried what people would think of them ' !!
Sorry Nancy, that's waffling and I have just noticed I should have got up ten mins ago, now I will be chasing the clock to catch my bus !!!!! Oooooooops "............talk later xxxx

Hey Nancy

The love thing is always so hard to define and understand.

"I love my cat, I love my dog, I love ice cream, I love God..."

John 13: 34 "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if ye have love one to another. "

John 15 "
13 "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. "
It doesn't always mean the great sacrifice dying in someone else's place...but giving of ourself in any and every area.

That is the acid test for us all. Love costs, love hurts...

And I am far from being there. I don't 'give of myself' until it hurts.
Yet that in itself is what speaks to the world when they see a Christian act in that way, for to them who have 'self first', seeing those placing self last.."speaks" more than words.

I had a hard time with this. People used to love me like they did ice cream. But when I began following Christ I saw a completely different side I never knew existed. Today I just assume it goes with the calling and if you can find a true friend, it's a very rare and precious experience.

Just look at the tag to this forum..."loving people living community" Now that is a slogan. I'm sure many people come here not seeing the love nor the community. Such is the way of slogans. They are shallow and misleading.

Better to be humble ...do the right things...but claim nothing.

I sense love in this community. Loving disagreement is motivated by love and therefore loving.
