Last Days Mockers and Scoffers Ask "Where is the Promise of Jesus's Return??
06-05-19, 09:33 PM
2Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

2Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2Peter 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

2Peter 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

2Peter 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

2Peter 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

2Peter 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

2 Peter 3:3-4 In the last days, scoffers will come – scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say: Where is this ‘coming’ He promised? Our fathers have been laid to rest, but still everything goes on as it always has done.

This is a question posed by sceptics, put so as to ridicule, by those who have not entered into the experience of believing in and trusting the Lord Jesus.

We Christian believers may well ask; Why does Jesus delay His Return? We await His coming and sometimes get impatient. But we can be confident that this delay is not due to some kind of mix up. God is sovereign; when everything that needs to be accomplished before His Return, is done – then He will come.

2 Peter 3:5-7 When they say this, they forget that God created the universe and the first civilization on earth was destroyed by a great flood. Scripture says that the present heavens and earth are reserved for burning, until the Day of judgement, when the godless will be destroyed.

Atheists, evolutionists and just simply apathetic people, deny or ignore the obvious fact that something does not come out of nothing; there has to be a Creator.

The reality of the Flood is proved by the geological record and ancient writings.
But this time God will use fire to reset our civilization; 2 Peter 2:7

2 Peter 3:8-9 Dear friends, do not forget; in the Lord’s sight, 1 day is like 1000 years. The Lord is not slow in keeping His promises, He is patient. It is not His will that any be lost, but that all should come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:10-13 The Day of the Lord will come unexpectedly. On that Day, the heavens will dissolve with a roar and flames, then the earth and all those in it will be brought to judgement. Since this will happen, you must live holy and dedicated lives, as you look forward to the renewal of the heavens and earth, where justice will be established.

This passage says we should look forward to Revelation 21, at the end of the Millennium and is often thought to relate to the Return of Jesus, but careful study shows it is neither.

There are many prophecies about the Day of the Lord’s vengeance and wrath, yet to be fulfilled – which don’t fit this Revelation 21 scenario, or the Return, therefore what Peter is prophesying about is the next event on this earth. The descriptions of the Day of the Lord, are of a soon to happen cleansing of the earth, with earthquakes and fire, which will cleanse the Holy Land and destroy His enemies. Revelation 6:12-17, Isaiah 63:1-6, Isaiah 30:26, Joel 2:1-11, Deut 32:34-43, Psalms 18:7-15, Isaiah 2:12-22.

This will enable the fulfilment of the many prophecies that say how the Lord’s faithful people will gather in all of the area Promised to their spiritual forefathers, and is the beginning of events leading up to the Return of Jesus Christ in His glory. NOW, we look forward to a renewed [cleansed] heaven and earth and the establishment of justice.

In the new nation of Beulah: Isaiah 62:1-5, Isaiah 35:1-10, Zechariah 8:1-13, Ezekiel 34:11-16.

2 Peter 3:17-18 So, dear friends, you have been forewarned. Take care that you do not let anyone seduce you with their errors, hold on to your faith. Grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ. To him be the glory, both now and for eternity!

...

I disagree. I'm not a "mocker" or a "scoffer" and I want to know, but the church has NO CLUE in spite of Scriptural Guidance that suggests otherwise:

1 Thess. 5:3 When people say, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as travail comes upon a woman with child, and there will be no escape. 4 But you are not in darkness, brethren, for that day to surprise you like a thief.

So why doesn't the church have an answer? It is because GOD didn't give it and Scripture is WRONG, -- OR is it because the church CAN'T HEAR FROM GOD THROUGH SCRIPTURE?!?

Yeah, that's a silly question. We all know that there's VERY LITTLE that the church understands about Bible Prophecy. In fact, my own pastor AND ANOTHER pastor both LIED because each of them were afraid of a question about Bible Prophecy. But that's what you get when you have HIRELINGS.

However, I would propose that there are Christians which CAN hear from GOD through HIS Word, who have an answer to the question. But the REAL mockers and scoffers in the church can't stand to hear it. :)

You are right, church leaders are clueless about Bible prophecy. In fact most totally avoid that subject.
However it seems to me that God has purposely 'blinded' them. The only reason for this, that I can see, is when things do start to happen; people must rely entirely on God to help and protect them. As Joel 2:32 and Acts 2:21 tell us.

But what is the worst thing is pastors and teachers who promote false theories and doctrines.
Christian people are taught they will be taken away from anything bad, like all the terrible things in Revelation. The Bible never says that and we must stand firm in our faith through at all.
Jesus said that we could be deceived and 2 Peter 3:17 warns us to be careful of people who promote errors.

It seems to me that people blind themselves. They turn to RELIGION instead of GOD, and so GOD remains silent. Scripture is replete with such circumstances, from the Prophets to Jesus and the Disciples.

But what is the worst thing is pastors and teachers who promote false theories and doctrines.

Well said!

Jesus said that we could be deceived and 2 Peter 3:17 warns us to be careful of people who promote errors.
That's correct, but my question goes further than your responses. I think there IS a TIMELINE which is given to those in the church which can hear from GOD. And although it ain't coming from the pulpits, SOMEBODY KNOWS. But who are those "somebodies", and is anyone listening?!?

Interesting enough, the only people, besides a small amount of atheists, that I see mocking and scoffing are conservative Christians who think they know everything about God and like to ridicule people that disagree with them. Oh and then blame the victim - “stop whining, snowflake! You are just a dumbas idiot, who is teaching the doctrine of demons!”

A sad irony indeed

EXCELLENT POST! :)
Perhaps we could forward it to the guy who did EXACTLY as you describe:

And if they do not come to fruition - you simply forget you ever conceived of the idea and immediately get busy coming up with more speculation, without worry or responsibility! It is the way of the dabbler, the tea leafer, the false prophet

No I’ve never claimed to know everything about God. If I have ridiculed people, point it out and I will apologize

Perhaps you might ask your alter-personality if he/she posted one or more of the above (in maroon) while you were either asleep or unaware, and ask him/her to apologize as appropriate.

I’ve already stated that I wrote both statements. I wrote them and I stand by them.

WHICH ONE?!? In one you castigate MOCKERS and SCOFFERS, and in the other one you MOCK and SCOFF. -- So if you "stand by them", then are you either CONFUSED or a HYPOCRITE!!!

Please send your "alter-personality". Maybe he can make sense out of your insanity,

If God has blinded their eyes, then only God can open them. Our words won't convince them. They demand empirical evidence. Well I say let them laugh. That's all they've got you know. Talk is cheap and a man with an experience is never at the mercy of a man with only an argument. Death won't even stop us. Lol So let's continue in this hope folks, walking not by sight but by faith. Bearing our cross and waiting patiently for the day of the Lord to come.

Hi JM,
I disagree. I can refute all their lies, and provide HISTORICAL (empirical) evidence ALL DAY LONG, and they still won't turn from their deeply held (and INCORRECT) doctrines.

"Belief" is stronger than FACT! :)

I can't see where you disagree LOL

True , if you had the time, you could refute their arguments...but what
@Jacobvmay basically said was ..unless GOD opens their eyes you are wasting your time...

No disagreement there :)

Yep, it's as I've said multiple times in this forum, quoting my favorite Aunt's tease: "My mind's made up, don't confuse me with the facts." And our so called "Christians" are the products of HIRELINGS who are MORE INTERESTED in their PAYCHECK than the TRUTH of the GOSPEL. Is it any wonder that the church will have a Great Falling Away the minute persecution starts ...

Oh yeah, I've got the time, -- but they don't have the interest. :)

Our Father blinds some, dare I say most for a reason.

The goats (church attenders) have no clue, but the sheep (true worshipers) hear their master. These two will be separated when no man can buy or sell, but my fear is that some sheep will also perish just as even Peter denied Jesus in the courtyard, and this will comprise the Great Falling Away. -- So we need to exhort those who may be susceptible to denying Jesus to have some tangible preparations (Ref. Luke 22:35-36) so that they have an escape from the concentration camp and/or dire survival.

Alternately, I anticipate the "showers" will be FREE!
