Well, at 11 it would take a while to learn to inhale properly! (Was your friend that said that about 11 also...?))
yeah.
When I was 11 it was hip to smoke.
It made kids feel older.
Why anyone would want to feel older....I don't know; NOT ME!
I want to feel younger.

What do you mean .... inhale properly?
There's a PROPER WAY to get that stuff into your lungs?

LOL

That's OK.
I figured if I had to get used to it...
It might not be such a good thing.

Hi @farouk ...
I was reading along and realized this is an old thread.
Happy for all those who were able to quit.
For those who didn't...keep trying!
(I never started. Tried once. It made me SICK!!!)
I never even tried. Both my parents were heavy smokers and it put me off. Not my sister though although she hasn't for many years. She once dropped a lighted cigarette on my new born. No harm done though.

Oooooh !
That was bad.

Funny thing, though,
I love the smell of cigarette smoke.
I'm unusual....LOL

It wasn't unusual in those days; and was regarded as pretty normal, wasn't it?
Respectable women didn't smoke whilst walking outside though.

By both genders it would be done calmly and un-self-consciously in homes and offices, though. There wasn't that same taboo that there seems to be now.
There was absolutely no taboo.

There was absolutely no taboo.
You're absolutely right; in home and office women would just whip out their latest pack and light up, wouldn't they. It was so normal, that you wouldn't even be actively aware that it was happening.

Now smokers are in a minority.

Hey, Maybe I am younger than some here!!!
When I was but a lass, the girls were PROUD to smoke wherever they could...
just not with their parents around.

So now I'm wondering how old @Pearl is....
Not that I really want to know.
Of course...I'm only 38. (always did have a problem with math).

Ooooh. I've been saved about 40 years myself.
But, like I said, I'm only 38.
I'm not getting older than that. Birthdays are ignored.

I was in my kitchen, in Whitestone, Queens, New York City.
I "heard" God speaking to me...I was sure it was Him.
And what He said turned out to be right....
So I can be sure it was Him....that was the beginning.

I guess this is one way of putting it; another way of stating it might be that they would do so confidently and un-self-consciously. (Which I guess is obliquely what @Pearl recalls from decades back.)

I think it's worthwhile stating that the smoking taboos of today didn't really apply generally in those days.
