lets see if this will stir anyone.. does this scripture below say women are not to wear pants. your pentecostals and some baptist live and breath this.. i am not necessarily asking this out ofnot knowing.. but curious as to what prof yea or nay

Who was that verse addressed to? Does it have any application to the 21st century? Deut 22:1, 4 demonstrates from the context that this is addressed to Israelites and not Gentiles.

On this forum, I'm tired of reading statements made to an Old Covenant audience that are made to apply to New Covenant believers. Basic Bible interpretation answers this issue.

I'm tired of reading statements made to an Old Covenant audience that are made to apply to New Covenant believers. Basic Bible interpretation answers this issue.
so whats your point spit it out .FYI it was not a statement ..it is a scripture that many denoms bank on for women to wear dresses only . i really thought this being a Bible study section . i would get bIBLICAL responses ..boy was in wrong.

Perhaps Deuteronomy was speaking to the men's Armor?
ya think? that is exactly what it is reference to..the Bible says dress modestly i have seen young ladies stand in front of the church to sing in a skirt. they had leep pulling it down . i do think ladies look better in dresses in church. but its not a requirement . i am more applied at adults wearing shorts in church .

I think that the verse in the first post of this thread is talking about what a man/woman should wear. I followed up with that regarding how it's an old statute, and doesn't apply to today, much like how we shouldn't wear clothes made of mixed material (I believe the Amish hold to this even today).

They are old testament statutes, and do not apply to Christians, though I would think at least most are common sense things. For instance, should a man or woman be a transgender, no, based upon the new covenant teachings. However, would it be ok for a man or a woman to wear clothes of the opposite gender (like a woman wearing a suit, or a man wearing a dress as a joke) while not being homosexual/transgender in sexual preference - my opinion is that it is ok and won't keep us out of Heaven. It's not for me, personally, but would it exclude entrance to Heaven, probably not.

As to how do I know that Leviticus chapter 18 and chapter 19 are not a continuation of the same concept, and I'm not a Bible scholar here, so just my opinion, is that they are of the same concept of statutes that Jews in the OT adhered to, as there were many different types of statutes discussed, from sexual statues, to foods to eat, to type of clothes to wear, to stealing and dealing honestly with neighbors, and commerce.
wow thank you a logical reply .i have a niece who does not believe in piercing ears... due to o.t law imo your pretty close to right

We do not like to see an unnecessary display of flesh on the part of either man or woman.
nor do i ..i must say after last night i had lost any hope in my o.p ..i have read some rather good replies ..the reason for the post i was talking to a 80 year old woman i use to work with on the phone.. she just had a b day we started talking about church . she said she was raised hard shell gen baptist... she then got on the dress and hse said i know my Bible.. back in the day i would have fired her up with a good argument . i refuse to argue over scripture . back in her younger years. she was pretty rowdy

But why should the preacher's wife and daughter be held to a standard different than other sisters? I mean I understand why they are, but why should they be? Does respect, or the lack thereof, have something to do with it?

As I see it. It can be a reverence attitude. Could be an "outer" appearance or the state of your "heart attitude"

I remember one evening, I had spent the day on the beach, wasting my day, wasting my life, and I was driving home. I remember noticing that the Saturday evening service at nearby Calvary Chapel was soon to start, and I felt the tug to go.

My first thought was my salted and sandy skin and hair, beach shorts, sandals, t-shirt. But hey, this is Calvary Costa Mesa, surfer culture is almost hard-wired in!

So I went.

And God touched me. And I started going. And God kept at it. It's good not to look down on someone else for their attire.

It could be all they can muster, either financially, or emotionally, or whatever. It could be rebellion, it could be anything though not Godly. And it could be someone like me, who just happened to think, I can come "just as I am".

I hear you loud and clear. I remember my paternal grandmother very well. Born in 1891, converted in 1913 in a camp meeting in Oklahoma, and died in 1985. I never saw her wear anything but dresses reaching well below her knees and her hair was always up in a bun except when she washed it. Then as she combed it out it reached nearly to her knees. I mentioned to my wife a few days ago that she now reminded me of that same grandmother, with the long hair and long dresses. I present no more arguments to people that they should do like my wife, but that is the way it is... for my wife anyway. But... no more wives. Together we've been for 47 years and until death do us part. I'm already 75. If she should leave before me, I don't expect to take another wife.

there is a difference i refer to christian adult shorts in church..no it will not send any one to hell there should be a standard .o wait heck ive seen shorts at a funeral

Nowadays I wouldn't dream of wearing shorts to church. But I don't wear shorts anywhere anymore!

You're right, catfish pants would be bad, and not fashionable at all. We could go with dogfish, but it would just pant...;) (yes, it's real, a type of shark)

Perhaps pants made of trout, but then they'd just be troutsers (silent second 't')...ha! ;)

Sheep would be fantastic, if you can get past the how, as you mentioned. Though, like you stated later in your post, I think I'll passover ;) If we were in OT times, we would adhere to God's statute in Leviticus and have pants of a single fabric with Sheep pants though, heh.

Lobster pants wins, hands, or claws, down.

I'm sorry, I hope I didn't come off as just an ignorant American thinking that all of Australia has crocs. Here in the USA, we have gators, mostly confined to the SE in the tropical climate. However, never to out do itself, humans take gators as pets in northern states, then release them into the rivers and lakes when they get too big, thus one can find gators (not too common however) in places they shouldn't be.

I'm with you on rejecting snake and spider pants if pants had to be made of them, but we'd have to figure something out so we aren't all pantless; back to plant pants I guess...
We only deem Americans ignorant of Australia if they think Kangaroo's jump down the main street of Sydney. Although, now that I think of it, I think not that long ago we actually had one jump across the Sydney Harbour Bridge...so, what do I know?

I think, considering all our pant options, that you are just going to have to go into business making lobster pants. It'll be huge; all the celebrity's will want them and you'll have back orders into 2021.

But the 'fashions' in biblical times were quite 'unisex' as they all wore long robes and sandals.

I never thought about it. I read so much I don't recall where I read that about unisex clothing.

I wear pants and never feel that God is judging me or displeased with it so I don't worry about the verse. The first job I had I had to wear a dress/ uniform and in the winter at the front registers that cold air swooshing in is something I can't forget. I don't think God will get angry over wanting to be comfortable.

It is not unisex clothing, but what the purpose is to appear the opposite sex. Homosexuality/cross-dressing/drag/butch

I gave you a biblical response by citing Deut 22:1, 4, These verses demonstrate the audience was the Israelites and not for denominations regarding women and dresses in the 21st century.

The point is simple. Don't impose on women in Christian denominations today, something that was for the Israelites and recorded in the Book of Deuteronomy before Moses' death ca. 1406 BC.
