An indulgence is granted for remission of sins to offer a way out of some of the temporal punishment for forgiven sins. Of course this is against anything Scripture states. Christ took the penalty for our sin already. If we are saved there is no punishment for us. It has already been delivered.
The key word you wrote is "if".....

Do you know what the Catholic church teaches about the Eucharist?

Yes and see it as a ritual. But there are many rituals in the OT one being the Jealous husband who is told to bring the woman accused before the priest and make her drink the bitter water as a test. Still, within this creepy ritual was one of the first places I saw the love of Christ.

Only saying can we confine God to any language expect that which is pure? Does He dwell in you ...literally or metaphorically? Regardless Philippians 1:18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

Here's my question about Transubstantiation (the wafer and wine literally becoming the flesh and blood of Jesus). If this were true, then the wafer and wine would taste like human flesh and blood, but I've never heard reports of this being the case.
.

Strange!
I thought this thread was about the e-rosary.
How did it get to the Eucharist?

But to answer your question.
Transubstantiation means the substance is changed.
Taste is an accident and does not change.

So you know they preach the false doctrine that it literally becomes the flesh and blood of Christ. We are eating literal flesh and drinking literal blood. You know that is what they teach right?

What in the world are you talking about??

You said: If it was a way to encourage prayer, why not make it free?

I responded: That would be nice. I wish all forums that encouraged prayer were free. Does Scripture encourage you to pray?

My point is you probably paid for your bible. You paid for the thing that encourages you to pray. Why not make it free??? If YOU got it free it still cost SOMEONE to manufacture it soooo it wasn't free.

What is wrong with paying for this item that encourages one to pray?

Thank you for clarifying. Not sure when the topic changed. I was responding to someone's mention of the topic.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here--that "taste is an accident."

??? What do you mean the key word is if?
If we are saved.....but we don't know if we are saved sooooo hence indulgences.

An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven.

Jesus said Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

Soooo how do you, David Taylor, eat His flesh and drink his blood and adhere to His doctrine?

And that is a fairly reasoned belief.

But Catholics don't see that outward celebration as "adding" to Christ's work.

(Again, I'm not Catholic and totally welcome a knowledgable Catholic to help out here).

I expect that is so, that they do not see it the same way I do. ;)

And, I'm not a Catholic either, so I think I'll bow out from that side of things.

And I appreciate your responses!

Much love!

What would the temporal punishment be if not for the indulgence?

How is an indulgence obtained?

Why would there be temporal punishments for sins whose guilt is forgiven?

Much love!

By believing in his work on the cross. It is a metaphor, it is not literal.

Interesting. There is nothing that indicates a temporal punishment of sins. The punishment for sin is death and eternity in hell.

Actually my Bible was freely given to me. Thanks. That being said does it cost to manufacture? Yes. But guess what, the church could eat those costs and give the app away for free just as many churches give Bibles away for free.

Taste is an accident and does not change.

Threads do change sometimes, I've seen!

I'm just wondering, how do you mean taste is an accident?

Isn't taste an interaction between our body's electro-chemical system and the properties of substances placed on our tongue? So that what I put on my tongue, the ingredients of the item cause certain electrical and chemical signals to initiate, and that those signals change according to the properties of those ingredients.

So to me, taste is a physical interaction that is repeatable, hence we have "favorite foods". Those certain foods have specific tastes we can return to.

I like chocolate cake. If that cake turns into a hamburger patty, it will have a different taste, will it not?

So then if the wafer and the wine change to flesh and blood, then they should have the properties of flesh and blood. Would they not?

Much love!

You have stated my question better than I did. It seems that the change is believed to be literal. So then, why isn't that literal change experienced...literally?
