We will not know if we are saved until we die, until ten we follow Christ the best we can.

A person can know they are saved because they are changed. "Old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."

This is "the mystery" which Paul declared: which is "Christ in you", the receiving and indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Not just sealed, not just promised, not just in the end--but for "those who are alive and remain", they have already entered into the kingdom, but remain in the world in the Lords service to reign with Christ. Just as Paul gave witness: "for me, to live is Christ."

This seems to be a question that if one preacher or theologian could give a solid and full-proof answer, he'd probably be the last one ever needed and all others would have to submit to.

I tend to agree with those who say we don't know until we get there, and I even believe in predestination! However, God doesn't give the diploma before you get there!

However, there are a number of passages in the Bible that tell us what is necessary. They tell us, "if you do this, then you are saved".

Many are going to give their candidate verse for what they believe proves they are saved or shows them how to be saved. They may be right, and many can be right with different verses. Reason is, there are lots that talk about it.

I am no different. I have mine. Let me again reiterate that I don't believe we know until we get there. I don't have a verse that says, "Rest easy, FHII, you're in!". But I do believe there are verses that give a roadmap, so to speak. I have two that stick out, with one being especially special:

2. I refer to 2 Peter 1:5-10. It says to add to your faith (this, making faith the foundation) virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and charity. It says this makes our calling and election sure, and if we do them, we shall never fall.

I thought this would be the best verse to give, and it is pretty great. But there is one verse that is both simple and complicated that is better. It actually occurs several times in the Gospels:

1.
Matthew 24:13 KJV
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

You don't get saved until you endure to the end. It is a preresiquite to being saved: you must endure unto the end. If so, how can you know you are saved before you endure to the end?

Now, endure what? And how? It think the verse is simple, but without understanding these questions, it's complex.

The verse gives a simple answer: wanna be saved? Endure to the end! But the questions are: endure what? And How do you endure?

Well, there's a Bible answer to that, too. And the full answer can be found in Gen 1:1 through Rev 22:21.

Romans 8 speaks of the perseverance of the true believer; and it's all a work of God; not of human merit.

That end is not the end of the world as it is perceived to mean, or even the end of our natural body, but rather the end of the old man. If it is no longer you who lives, but Christ who lives in you--that is the end, all things have become new (in Christ).

It is true that some never see the end of the old man of flesh until the flesh dies. But that is not true of those whom Christ has entered into. This is whom Paul referred to as "those who are alive and remain" (in the world), meaning they have died to the old self and are new (born again) in Christ, by the spirit of God.

Correct Scott, for many miss a key word in what the apostle states, Romans 14:9 "For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living."
What many christian miss is this word, "revived". which means, restore to life or consciousness. a poster asked me "How can dead men be saved". just ask the Lord Jesus who revealed that very mystery to Paul. Baptism, 1 Peter 3:21 "The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:" which answers another topic, "Is Baptism nessary for salvation".

even in death we are saved. as said, not just sealed, but PARTAKER in the divine NATURE.

@Grams
Marlene ....We can know we are saved ...

1 John 5.13
" These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
14 And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us:"

He said those who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

We heard the call of the Gospel and we responded to His voice.

Sheep know His voice and a Stranger they will not follow. :)

I like what you are getting at, but I do disagree. I used Matthew 24:13, but there is another verse that says the same thing (actually 2 others, but they are different accounts of the same thing). with the Matthew 24 verse, Jesus was asked what will be the sign of his coming, and the end of the world. Jesus talked about wars, rumours of wars, earthquakes, pestilence, nation's vs. nation's, persecutions, etc. After describing all this, he says if we endure to the end we will be saved.

That's verse 13. Verse 14 says that this gospel shall be preached in all the world, then shall the end come [paraphrasing].

I can see applying this to your spiritual journey, but Jesus was talking about literal things here.

Now Matthew 10:22 and Mark 13:13 are accounts where Jesus said the same thing, but in a different sermon.

Matthew 10:22 KJV
And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

He was describing being persecuted as a believer and facing death. So with these verses I don't agree with you either. But again, I can appreciate the spiritual application.

Consider this verse:

1 John 2:19 KJV
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

This verse says that some were counted as Christian's but really weren't. The sign that they weren't is that they didn't continue (they didn't endure to the end).

But let me bring up this verse:

John 6:27 KJV
Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

Now THAT'S a verse where your commentary is 100% accurate!

So again, I do appreciate what you said, and come to think of it, my pastor has even said, "your life ended when you met Christ!". Nonetheless, these verses speak of remaining in Christ through your hardships to the end of your natural life. It's not enough to have faith, you must remain faithful.

There may be exceptions when it comes to conditions like dementia or other mental degeneration. I don't know... I only pray the Lord has mercy on the once faithful who suffer such. Maybe there are other things as well... But in general, I take these verses (with the scriptural evidence I mentioned) to mean the end of one's natural life.

If you are referring to 1 These 4:16-17, you are in a sense correct. This is the so-called "rapture" chapter. It says the dead in Christ shall rise first. However, it really has little connection to the verses that say we must endure to the end. If nothing else, it doesn't contradict the notion that we must remain faithful.

Many people are "changed" when they meet the Master. They then see what I they could not see before. This is vision given to a blind man.

"He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see." John 9:25

But seeing does not equal salvation. It is necessary to salvation, but salvation it is not.

"And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth." John 9:39-41

Once we do see then we must act upon what we see and endure to the end as someone already said on this thread.
These are our necessary works: acting on what we and enduring to the end with Him. Jesus made these things possibilities. He is the Way and made it possible for us to walk in that Way with and in Him.

Yea, I suppose it works for that. I don't think that verse can work for those who walk away wilfully though.

I too do not disagree with you as well.

However, what is manifest is manifest, and what heavenly things are a manifestation of is not the things of this world, nor our fight here, for we fight not against flesh and blood...nor against that which can kill the [natural] body. So, it is good to consider the greater context of all that is merely manifest in the world, even as not being "literal" as the world thinks of what is literal, but rather according to what is heavenly.

Isaiah 43.1: "...I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine."
Yes! One of my all time favourite scriptures. But I like the start of the sentence which says, 'Fear not' or 'Do not be afraid'.
