Luke 17 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Jesus was saying the kingdom of God would not come with attentive watching.

Jesus referred to the kingdom as coming near to them by his presence (Luke 10:11).

The disciples were expecting a visible kingdom to immediately appear, not a spiritual kingdom within the believer (Luke 19:11).

Jesus said to expect a kingdom that would be visible, as is lightning (Luke 17:24).

Zephaniah 3:15 The LORD hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more.

3:16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack.

3:17 The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Joel 2:27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

The verses above, and others, speak of the Lord as being in the midst of Israel (Isaiah 12:6 Ezekiel 28:22 Hosea 11:9 Zechariah 2:11).

Zechariah 2:10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD.

Scripture speaks of the Lord Jesus Christ as being in the midst of Israel and is the meaning of Luke 17:21 in saying the kingdom of God is within you.

If one does not know that the Kingdom of God is within you, such a one is not born again.

Remember what Jesus said to Nathaniel, Nathaniel was a what ? and what would he see ? you better believe it he truly was what Jesus had said he was and Nathaniel did see all that Jesus said that he would.

Not to mention that Nathaniel knew who Jesus was directly, if that does not get your attention I don't know what would.

Doug's position is about the idea that Jesus' Kingdom has already come on earth today. There are some Churches that deny any literal future Kingdom by Christ, which is sad because God's Word reveals much about Christ's future literal Kingdom being established on a future earth in the physical sense. The real danger of their man-made doctrine about today being Christ's Kingdom already established in full, is how Satan's servants can then trick the deceived into accepting the things and ways of this... world today as Christ's Kingdom. Yet our Lord Jesus said His Kingdom was not of THIS world, meaning this present world time (John 18:36).

Our Lord Jesus was speaking of His 1st coming. They rejected Him, so His Kingdom of Israel was not then established. Yet per Acts 1 His Apostles knew it was prophesied to happen. And, since our Lord promised His 12 Apostles would each sit upon a throne judging the 12 tribes of Israel, we know the kingdom of Israel is to be established as His future Kingdom to come. Suggestions to the contrary have no Biblical foundation.

Jesus referred to the kingdom as coming near to them by his presence (Luke 10:11).

The meaning of Luke 10:10-11 is about presenting The Gospel and it being rejected. It did not mean Christ's Kingdom was then literally established in that time.

The disciples were expecting a visible kingdom to immediately appear, not a spiritual kingdom within the believer (Luke 19:11).

In the very next verses after Luke 19:11, Jesus gave His disciples a parable about Himself as a nobleman that went into a far country to receive a kingdom, and to return. He called his servants, gave them ten pounds and told to occupy until he returned. Then when he returned he discovered what servant was profitable with what he entrusted to them, and one was not. That is about Christ's future return to receive His Kingdom at His 2nd coming. So right there, with just a little bit more reading in Luke 19, we discover by our Lord's parable how He meant His Kingdom, and its timing. Basically it is this...

Those in Christ have the Promise of His Salvation, and thus His Kingdom is spiritually manifest here on earth through His servants, and they are to be stewards, bringing forth fruit in The Gospel. At His 2nd coming is when He will take David's throne and rule in His literal Kingdom here on earth, with His elect. That is when He will receive a report from His servant's work, like the parable He gave in Luke 19 shows.

Jesus said to expect a kingdom that would be visible, as is lightning (Luke 17:24).

In that Luke 17:24 passage, Jesus was talking about the day of His 2nd coming. He gave HOW He returns in contrast to false Christs some will say is Jesus. Our Lord said His coming will be like how lightning shines from one part of the sky across to the other part of the sky, easy to see. Every eye will see His 2nd coming He said in Rev.1. He was not saying to expect a visible kingdom with that idea. He was only giving a metaphor for how everyone will know His 2nd coming.

It's actually about more than that. His Church is there in Jerusalem on earth reigning with Him too. His Kingdom is the Kingdom of Israel. The name Israel God gave to Jacob represents The Gospel. It means to overcome with God's help. It's the salvation name that represents the Promise first given Abraham by Faith (Galatians 3; Romans 4).

No, Jesus is NOT... today in the midst of Israel by what God's Word is showing that you quoted. See Psalms 2. It is about Jesus literally... sitting over His Kingdom of Israel on earth in Jerusalem, upon Mount Zion, when He returns in the near future.

These two passages below would seem to contradict each other--as if Jesus is contradicting Himself. That is, if you take them literally or simply in their literary from, without understanding:
Luke 17 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

Jesus said to expect a kingdom that would be visible, as is lightning (Luke 17:24).
But, No, they do not contradict, but clarify that the "kingdom is not of this world", but rather of the spiritual kingdom of God; and that it is not in this world that "every eye will see", but rather in the spiritual kingdom, in the spirit.

From which also comes the defining points of both the kingdom of God within, as opposed to "outer darkness"...which spiritually is the world.

I thought that the Kingdom had come, it's been here for 2000 years, attacked by the weeds through out.
People have been born again now for 2000 years, but it will be established totally in the future, when the Works of Satan will be seen by all for what such truly is clearly. Saints be praised !

Romans 2:25-27
For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

“if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?” ...how can the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law (being not circumcised) yet then counted as circumcision?

1 Corinthians 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

This is what happens when we put a timeline to the things of God whom is the same yesterday, today, and forever. It is true that we experience the coming of the kingdom of God "each in his own order." That's what Paul said. So don't feel bad about looking at it all from your own time and perspective. But the times of men are not the times of God--don't misunderstand. If Jesus says "today you will be with me in paradise", and if Paul by the Holy Spirit says "now (today) is the day of salvation"...those days may come at different times within the times of men and the world, but not with God, for He is the same always and His kingdom is not of this world. Nor are such things future, but the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Thus, it is a mistake to put God on that worldly timeline of men. For those days are numbered in the world, but not in the kingdom (which is not of this world).

So, in the world, if the kingdom has come to us; that is, if the Father and the Son have come into you as it is for those born again of the spirit of God, then we are right to say "That was the day." But if this has not happened to you, then and only then, is it correct to say, "The kingdom is yet to come, but is in the future."

If He has come in to you, let that be your witness.

I'm sorry I kinda disagree..timing for things in our life has nothing to do with kingdom within. Jesus said that the wind blows where it will yet we do not know where it comes or goes, so to every man on this Earth, the holy spirit invites people everyday to let him in thier hearts..there is no timing for that, it's recognizing Jesus and his voice and if you don't hear his voice how can you notice the spirit come upon you when it does. It comes one place or person and goes to the next place or person and there's no timing for that because salvation is near and crouching at the door, the time is now this minute so the spirit and kingdom of God comes upon people everyday.. it's whether they believe or not that it is happening ..it's whether people recognize his voice..and it's weather people let the spirit in thier hearts..and Jesus said unless a man be born again, he can not enter the kingdom of God but only by which we let the holy spirit in first.... And once the spirit enters us so does the kingdom of and power of God...so it's happens everyday and has been happening since day one...the holy spirit connects us to God so he can work with us by being born again..only through the holy spirit we can reach Jesus and God.. and abide in him...and that's when his timing come for things in our life and circumstances now that we have become a child of God and cry out "Abba Father". ..and since God protects his children so after that..there's a time and season for every purpose under heaven....haha remember the lost sheep with the nighty nine parable..it's like that...well kinda..God's timing for us is only through our circumstances and situations in life ..it's in God's children own experiences that he appoints a time to reach them all...but since they are already born again the holy spirit confirms them saved already...the holy spirit is swaying everyday in every moment. and so is Jesus knocking on our door everyday....every second minute day or night a person has a chance to be born again...sometimes Jesus can't do everything for us though, sometimes we have to meet him halfway by abiding in his word and seeking him each day....

That's why Jesus told the people that the kingdom of God had come upon them cause even though he was there as the chosen Son of God working there miracles, they didn't believe him cause they didn't know him or recognize him...etc they expected something different when in reality he was actually already there...etc. Luke 11:20

That's kind of all over the place.

I was simply saying that the timing of the things of the kingdom, is not the timing of the things of this world...because the kingdom of God is not of this world. Thus, when one says the kingdom has not yet come or comes in the future, it is just them admitting that it has not yet come to them, and has nothing to do with it coming to everyone else.

The day that is to do with the end of days is about everything is burnt up, the people as a whole will see all the nonsense burnt up before them in stark contrast, nothing will be left but to turn to God, the deceptions will be lifted from their eyes. they will be appalled at how man was deceived by the works of Satan and see his works clearly for what it was. it will be like being smacked in the face and they will not tolerate such deceptions, for one they will not be able to afford such and two they will be on guard against such foolishness.

Nowadays the Satanist deceptions are so strong, that it just amazes me how that the majority just swallow it all up hook line and sinker, every vice that the Bible warns us about, is staring us in our face 24/7 the evil that abounds is staggering and the majority can't see it for what it truly is. it's like a pox on the people.
If they want to tempt the Lord Jesus, well they are doing a good job of it. it's much like a foolish kid playing with fire, a good chance that they will get burnt bringing down Hellfire on all.
I am like no ! no no no no no no ! bloody hell ! stop that ! it's a fire that will get way out of control. don't tempt the Lord Jesus what ever you do.
Remember the Flood, well the Bible points to fire as the next time God deals with such people and I believe it.

Unless the Lord sent us, that's why we should keep our relationship with the Lord personal..not being tossed here and there by people's opinions and our own assumptions of things and people nor from what we speak from our own mouths but to be renewed by the spirit the first where Lord can enter us and then we can begin to speak the words he puts in our mouths only to speak...

@Jennifer: Just goes to show how much our thoughts and words and understanding need to be informed by regular prayer and Scripture reading and meditation.

I agree, but even Jesus said in the New Testament that when the Elijah was to come was sent, they did everything they could to him but did know him not. Just like they didn't believe Jesus and had him crucified on the cross. People could have tortured and killed the "Elijah" only to find out in the end he was the real power of God among them. Imagine someone killing the Lord's servant while thinking they was doing the Lord's favor when indeed sometimes the Lord test us all..People have all kinds of ideas about God but what people don't know is God's ways are not like our ways, and that his thoughts are higher then ours. His wisdom always reaches a higher level and revelation of truth..none of us will ever understand or fathom the way God works...that's why when the son of God, Jesus came to work miracles they didn't believe him when he said the kingdom of God has come upon you, they didn't believe him because they were expecting something different..some expect the kingdom to appear in extravagant ways when in truth Jesus said the kingdom of heaven does not come in a way forseen by man, because while man would rather expect the pope to be a servant of God, they ignore the man sitting by the trash can digging for food who very well could be God's chosen servant. You see the Lord tells us to walk humility, so much humility that the pope could be the one found himself a liar on the last day...and this is not about the pope over in our world..I'm just using that word as an example and terminology. But I guess that's why Jesus tells us to pass judgement on no persons cause none of us are righteous until we become made right in the Lord Jesus himself.. *sigh and like farouk said it takes a lot of bible reading and meditation to find ourselves into such situations...cause meditation helps us be mindful of things and people and to stay humble in the process... ...
