For those who believe in the possibility of receiving dreams and visions from the Lord, and who either have in the past and/or desire to again in the future, I learned something yesterday that I thought might be helpful to share.

I used to interpret quite regularly on CF a few years ago, but I eventually had to stop. The reason was because, while some dreams proved to be genuinely from the Lord and accurate, many were proving to be clearly not from the Lord. I wondered about this at the time because they were coming from true Christians, and I was at a loss to know why some were receiving genuinely inspired dreams while others were not.

Well, the Lord showed me why yesterday. For some reason, I just felt led to google "End-Time Visions and Dreams - Youtube." I thought I might get a few things. What ended up popping up were dozens upon dozens, upon dozens, upon dozens upon DOZENS of Youtube videos going by this title, and it took very little time to discern that few were truly inspired, despite again coming from people who appeared to be genuine believers.

Then it hit me. The reason this is happening is quite simple:

Joel 2:28-29 reads as follows:
28 “And it shall come to pass afterward
That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your old men shall dream dreams,
Your young men shall see visions.
29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

The order here is imperative: He will pour out His Spirit upon all flesh (from the very old to the very young) and then they will prophesy, dream dreams, and see visions. This is the key to receiving genuine visions and dreams: Abiding in the Presence of God such that the Spirit is poured out upon you.

Those I know of who have received very powerful visions and dreams in the last few decades have all been people who were seriously devoted to God, had very strong prayer lives, and spent a great deal of time in His presence. The problem with most Christians today, however, is they do not have strong prayer lives and are not spending quality time in His Presence. The result is that when they do receive dreams, these dreams are not truly from God but simply being generated by their flesh.

Now these words are not a condemnation of anyone. My wife and I have both received dreams that proved to be unquestionably from the Lord, and unquestionably accurate. Yet at other times I have received dreams that I had my doubts about, and questioned their source. Until the appointed time when this prophecy finally begins to be fulfilled in earnest, the answer for those wishing to serve Him in these things now is to abide increasingly in His Presence, and we can assume that the exact same principles apply to prophesying as well.

Posting this because it has helped me understand some things more clearly.
Blessings in Christ to those who find it helpful.

Was Trump in it?
Maybe it had something to do with the Impeachment hearings.

Yes not all dreams are from the Lord.

How God communicates dreams is described as 'whispering in the ear'. This leaves the possibility of not receiving the word properly, it being corrupted by suppositions held in the heart. How often do we read the same scripture and get different meanings? It is the same issue with visions and dreams.

I also believe it is possible that the dream may continue after the inspired part, and the overall message become conflated with our own imaginations.

Absolutely. I also noticed that many of their dreams appeared to be colored by their own theology on matters like the rapture, or the timing of the Lord's return. What it suggests is that our understanding of scripture can also determine if we are able to receive a dream from the Lord or not, since if He wants to communicate something that conflicts with our theology, we may either reinterpret it or reject it out of hand as simply not being from God.

And suppositions in the heart do indeed foul things up sometimes as well. If a dream suggests something we don't want to happen, well... we can find ourselves rebuking that spirit... "In the name of the Lord!"

Excellent post.

For me a two edged sword.

I have not had a word via dream from the lord for a long time now.
Maybe because the promise to is old men, not old women :D

But on the serious side...as I have aged I have found it harder ( not easier as I once thought it would be) to have serious deep times of prayer . My mind wanders these days , so I am more conscious of 'me' bringing my mind back to the spiritual realm.. ( my Magnetic North :p)

I used to be able to shut out the world in a moment, and be 'caught up' pray, worship, and wait for three hours at a time ...these days my mind is more cluttered and its hard to get quiet inwardly.

Saying all that to confirm your post here..."serious" spiritual prayer that is out of His Spirit within us , ...and not panic prayers or rote prayers , is where it is at to enter into the heavenly things.

As bbyrd009 often says... " I must let that marinate " a while today...that hit the spot.

We need to still be praying for Frank
He is not well at all and many days find it very hard to breath.
Remember he was diagnosed with a big mass in his lungs?

He is still on Facebook and posting and uplifting people in the Lord..I think that is about all he does now. He is a brave soldier for sure and had more than his share of challenges in life.....but I am sure he will get the overcomers reward...Frank always 'comes over' he never goes under it...his faith is strong.

Lord Keep Frank in Your Strength and victory unto the end. ✟

Wow... well that's not the greatest news (for me, I mean). What do you think is causing all that?

I'm so sorry to hear that... I actually assumed maybe he had passed already, and no one told me.

I will certainly keep him in my prayers, and Victory also.

I sadly confess that much of my brain fog is self caused.

Back when I was hearing from the Lord more clearly we did not have a TV , or a computer!!

I remember hearing Dave Wilkerson preaching that when a Tv came into the house and Holy Spirits anointing left the house . Too much mixture.

We did not have a TV until 1985, and a next door neighbour gave hubby a big old one he didn't want - " To just watch sports on".

I made him keep it in the basement.
On moving house in the late '80's it ended up up in the living room.

I NEVER watch regular TV but we do have a closet full of British movies and TV series. They have 'paid for themselves' as it were as we have watched most of them more than twice and love them...all clean of language , but mostly police shows or mysteries .... Agatha Christi etc etc...

Living in the far north is hard, winters are long and boring...
I read mystery novels , and spend time on here...
It all must make for distraction from the things of God. Worldly clutter.

Our first Church was an old Holiness Mission ...
No TV , no Novels etc...

Just saying ... The price of the flesh is - The Spirit. Can't have both.

Not that I don't have great times of prayer or answers to prayer. I do.
Dave and I pray together often too, and see answers. God is Good.

But..the deeper things .... the price for The Spirit, is the flesh.

Boy, I'm getting heavy and naked here!!!!

All of what you say is true, only

A. The TV can be turned off and the novels can be put away. Even the computer can be shut off and pushed aside. Presto! No more ChristianityBoard, and all the annoying haranguing that goes on, LoL!
B. I'm not sure if anyone can spend every waking hour with God anyway, so there needs to be good clean things to do with one's down time.

But I do know what you mean about distractions being self-induced. This place does it to me especially. At first, it's a pleasant diversion. But in very short order it becomes this 20-tentacled-monster that has me wrapped up in about 4 treads, and behind by about 40 posts. Tell you the truth, the Lord has been calling me to come away again today, but I've got two long-running conversations that I'm dozens of post deep into, plus two or three others that could quickly become serious time-consumers as well.

It's like the mafia.
Once you're in, don't plan on leaving, LoL.

OK there's like a brain club site you can go to that gives you puzzles to keep your mind sharp? Also YouTube has senior yoga, All kind of stuff you can do Helen. Coconut oil! Yoga will increase blood flow, that helps, plus what is your chief source of Omega 3, the vital oil that has surely, been entirely stripped from your diet? How you getting vitamin D, which acts like a hormone in your body? I don't even plan on having kids until I'm your age OK? lol
in between bodybuilding contests that is :)

how often do you say "I am getting old?"
