This is a strawman argument which can be throne back at you

Have fun earning your way to heaven, I hope you have enough works. Just remember what Jesus said he would say to those people who did all those works in Jesus name, and pray your not one of them
Lol....I hope I have enough works also.

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? ....someone asked rhetorically

And our interpretation is different than yours

we will find out who is right when we get to heaven

stop thinking your right and everyone else is wrong, God resists the proud
I don’t think I am right. I think the church is right. That is why scripture calls the church the pillar and foundation of TRUTH

Anyone who speaks the true word of god has authority.

that counts your church out

well wait, they do get some stuff right
Hmmmm....so YOU decide what “stuff” is “right” or who speaks the true word of God?

Who is “our”?

Reality check....You Protestants can’t even agree on what is “right” but you KNOW the CC is wrong....but you can’t even agree on what the CC got wrong. On the other hand you readily admit that we can never KNOW what is right and sometimes you are wrong. What a conundrum you are in.

I think she forgets something

Paul did not teach them oral tradition, he taught them the word, they did not just blindly follow him they checked to verify what he said was true
Ummmm.....if Paul didn’t teach the Bereans from oral tradition then what book was he reading from when he testified to them about Christ?

OT Scrolls
Nope...the Bereans read the OT scrolls. Paul told them about Jesus and that the OT prophecy of the coming messiah had been fulfilled in Jesus. How did Paul know this? From the testimony of others and from meeting Jesus after his death. Paul did NOT read from NT letters to convince the Bereans.

Does God prefer one religious bent to another? Or is that about us?

As in.."I can believe anything I want based on a verse taken out of context"
I'm sorry to be coming in on this so late. I have read all 700+ posts, so if anyone has already posted what I'm going to say, my apologies again.

There are no denominations in the Bible. They are a sign of our sinful humanity ( 1 Corinthians 1:10). Nor does one have to be a great theologian to be saved. 'Repent and believe the good news' (Mark 1:15). 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved' (Acts 16:31). But to believe in Jesus is obviously more than simply believing that there was someone called Jesus of Nazareth who lived a long time ago and did a lot of good stuff. The devils in hell know that, and it did Simon Magus no good (Acts 8:13-24). The faith that saves is a belief that you are a sinner justly under the condemnation of God; turning from that sin and trusting, not in your faith or your repentance, but in the merits and the satisfaction of the Lord Jesus Christ for the outraged justice of God, as evidenced by His resurrection.

The problem comes when people are urged to believe in something more, whether it be the circumcision that was urged on the Galatians and the church at Antioch, the legalism and gnosticism being foisted upon the Colossians, or extra-Biblical prophesies masquerading as the word of God (e.g. Matthew 7:15-23). We are complete in Christ (Colossians 2:9-10). To place your faith for salvation in anything but Christ, or in Christ plus anything, is exceedingly dangerous (cf. Acts of the Apostles 4:12).

I never said Paul read ANYTHING from the NT that was not even written yet! Paul was giving the Bereans OT scriptures describing the coming of their Messiah and the Bereans, then went home to see if these things were so as they read their own scrolls!
So, you believe that Paul, infamous pharisee he was, had no access to the OT scrolls?? And what is the difference if Paul was reading from the scrolls OR speaking from the works of others anyhow? The Gospel was preached either way.

Paul didn’t give them OT Scripture. Here is what happened: The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue.

So as you can see Paul went to the synagogue where the Bereans were. In the synagogue the Bereans were reading/studying scripture. Paul didn’t bring scripture to them...

You alleged that Paul did not teach them oral tradition. I asked you how he taught them(from what book). You replied “OT scrolls”. That is not true. He witnessed to them (orally) how Jesus was the fulfillment of the OT prophecy. The Bereans did not rely on scripture alone. They relied on the oral testimony of Paul and Silas. That is why they were more noble than the Thessalonian Jews.

bible study Mary

Where in the world did you get the idea that I thought that Paul had no access to the OT scrolls????

Well I wonder how, since the penalty of sin is death, and the Bible says our works are as filthy rags, your works are going to cause god to forgive one sin

Isaiah 64:6 does not say that all acts of righteousness are as filthy rags to God, but that those being rendered to him in Isaiah‘s day were.

Yes....in post #767

Acts 17:1-3
"17 "Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. 2 And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ.”

Was not all "oral". He read from the "scriptures". The OT scriptures, showing all the prophecies of the coming of their Messiah.
The Bereans would have gone home and checked those very scriptures.

What do you mean The Bereans would have gone home and checked those very scriptures? They were already in the synagogue where the scrolls are kept . They didn’t carry a Bible back and forth from home to church.

And then you quote the passage about the Thessalonians to prove your point when we aren’t even talking about them. You have me confused.

Is it fair to say that Paul and Silas read a passage from the OT and then told the Bereans how Jesus fulfilled that passage? Is that what you are saying?

whatever man

Go earn your salvation

James said our faith is justified by our works (proven)

Go earn your salvation. I will pray you do enough work to earn your freedom from eternal judgment

Me? I will recieve Gods grace. Knowing I am unworthy
James never said that, he was taking to Christians who understood that it's the Holy Spirit that impels you to do the will of Christ Jesus. anyone who claims otherwise is of Satan.

Anyone who claims they are working for their salvation is a fool, one is to boast anything of what they did, as fact is that all the glory is only given to the Holy Spirit and not of ones self at all.

Look what I did ? No ! look what the Holy Spirit did, the thing is to abide in the Holy Spirit, we do not give our selves any glory at all, it's all due to the glory in Jesus Christ, as it's him that we serve.

Faith without the works is in fact dead! remember about that the workers are few ? and that the one must bear fruit ? and that Jesus cursed the fig tree because it did not bear fruit, Nathaniel was working at that Tree in hope for it to bear fruit, because he was a true Israelite and Jesus came and then we hear what Nathaniel said to Jesus and Jesus said of him and what he would see ?:)

Jesus said that one must abide in the vine, so if one does not abide in him you are not a Christian at all, are some claiming to be born again due to their own will or a one time event knowing that the vine exist but they do not abide in it and end up all puffed up in pride of ownership of the word.

Owning it and doing it are two different things. are they trying to own the word ? but have tossed away the deeds. like they did when they took over the Vineyard and the Prophets came and they killed them all and when Jesus came they did the same. that's religion !

All people are religious, not one person ever was not religious ever regardless what they may say ? but you must be truly born again to come out of that whore and to enter into the Kingdom of God, for Jesus Christ is not of this world.
The religious are of this world. just look at all the religions of the world, only one is not of this world, they are on about this world ? but Christ Jesus is about the Kingdom of God ! now no one can enter but for they who are worthy, the Bible points out who can not enter ? fact is that such as is pointed out can not because it's imposable for such a corrupted one to have such a perception to enter because they are wrapped up in this world. because they are degenerates and not worthy. Adam and Eve were kicked out of the Kingdom of Gods Paradise, due to being temped as to abiding in Sin = Satan's Kingdom of this world.

We see religion is claiming that we are all sinners, so they embrace the Sin and that's why prop up Sodomites, they are empowering them ? claiming that all sinners are the same, well no they are not the same at all !
