Not being funny, irrespective of anything else, All leaders are conveyed in the media wrongly at times , it happens- they do say stupid things- whether he was being sarcastic or not, there is no smoke without fire. There is always a element of truth in the reporting , even if it is very small.
Also it’s not ‘ Trump hate syndrome ‘ - that is thrown around this forum so much. People are allowed to have different opinions about world leaders or their own leaders, they are in the public spot light. He he still accountable for what he said, whether it was sarcasm or not - if that is misconstrued , well that’s just what happens when a leader speaks. ALL press are out to get Click bait - and this one really worked !

It's hilarious to go back to the beginning of this thread and read how on Friday morning the Trump supporters were all like "Hey now, using disinfectants internally might be a good idea, so Trump was right to ask about it, but that darned media just keeps taking him out of context and misrepresenting him!"

But by Friday afternoon, after Trump threw all that under the bus and said he was just trolling the media "to see what would happen", the Trump supporters didn't quite know what to do and scrambled around a bit with things like "Naw, he wasn't being sarcastic, he was just thinking out loud, right?" and "He was keeping us informed...yeah, that's it!" and "He's just awkward sometimes" and of course ol' reliable, "FAKE NEWS!"

Now it seems to have settled on how clever Trump is in playing the media, with the occasional dip back to "He was just asking good questions about possible treatments" (forgetting how Trump said himself he was just being sarcastic), with the standard griping about liberal media sprinkled in.

It never seems to occur to some folks that maybe they should reevaluate their unwavering support of the guy, given all the gymnastics he forces them to go through in defending him. But then, conservatives are known for their unshakable loyalty.....

Trump does not believe it is normal for people to video themselves licking toilet seats, eating Tide Pods, and snorting condoms... he is of a generation that did not have to assume that the average American is an Idiot, and the Fake Media knows it!
Ah, so now it's those darn kids' fault!!

All the shouts about "hating Trump" are no different than the cries of "fake news". Both are just lazy ways to wave away inconvenient information without having to actually look at it or think about it.

Tell me, who else is likely to listen to what the President said and run out and drink Lysol?
I don't know. Given some of the polling data, I seriously doubt very many Gen Z's put much stock in anything Trump says, especially when it comes to medical advice.

EDIT: And given some of the crazy stuff coming out of the evangelical Christian community lately, I'm not sure US Christians are in the position to accuse other groups of doing stupid things.

The line between commentary and journalism is blurred. People that get their "news" from propagandists and comedians, and believe that they are "informed," is why people who know what journalism is, point out Fake News. It's not about "inconvenient information"... just like the failed propaganda movie "An Inconvenient Truth" has been proved in time to be "Total Convenient Propaganda and Lies."

What "medical advice" did Trump give besides wash your hands, stay at home, and if you go out, maintain social distancing?

Surveys have shown that people who rely on conservative media are more misinformed than people who don't pay attention to the news at all. And note that it's not that they're uninformed, they are misinformed.

More often than not, when someone yells "fake news" to me all I have to do is ask what specifically is "fake" and the person just leaves. That's how I came to the conclusion that it's just a lazy coping mechanism.

If he didn't dispense any advice, then why would anyone "run out and drink Lysol" as you suggested?

Surveys? Nonsense! Just crazy "coping mechanisms" created to evade the facts! :)

I can tell in context of what is "Fake" is the claim that Trump said for people to inject Lysol as reported by Fake News! There, it did not take digging or making the endless list that can go for nearly infinity!

Listening to "Media' is different that listening to the "News." Ask Sean Hannity, he will tell you that he is NOT a journalist; he is a Commentator. Ask Racheal Maddow, and she will claim to be a journalist and news! If you listen only to your own bias, no matter which bias you have, and you will be misinformed. Even real so-called "journalism" is skewed when they only report who, what, when, where, why and how on what they decide to report on, and selectively ignore reporting of things they don't want you to hear. Like when Bush was President the Big Three Networks gave a daily "body count" of our casualties involved in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, but the minute that Obama took over it disappeared and afterward they only rarely and timidly gave out numbers. Or how the Big Three rarely promoted the numbers on the economy when we were setting record highs under Trump, but now they are gleefully slamming the bad numbers during this crisis!

If you're going to do comedy, you should at least know what makes people laugh. Who was laughing at his "sarcasm"? Even his supporters weren't. They were busy lambasting the people they said Trump had been trolling. Why weren't they laughing at his humor? I was laughing, why weren't they?

LOL.

I can tell in context of what if "Fake" is the claim that Trump said for people to inject Lysol as reported by Fake News! There, it did not take digging or making the endless list that can be made.
Can you show where any media outlet wrote that Trump told people to inject Lysol?

Listening to "Media' is different that listening to the "News." Ask Sean Hannity, he will tell you that he is NOT a journalist; he is a Commentator.
I do listen to Hannity, and he goes back and forth.

Ask Racheal Maddow, and she will claim to be a journalist and news! If you listen to your own bias, no matter which bias you have, and you will be misinformed. Even real so-called "journalism" is skewed when they only report who, what, when, where and why on what they decide to report on, and selectively ignore reporting of things they don't want you to hear. Sure, all media outlets have differing levels of bias. The key is to know that and take it into account when looking at their material.

But the conservative approach to media bias is fascinating and funny at times. A few years ago a local right-wing radio host where I live went on a rant about "media bias" and of course named all the usual suspects....CBS, CNN, NBC, WaPo, NYT, etc. So I called in and eventually got to ask him (on air) if he agreed Fox News, WSJ, The Hill, American Thinker, and TownHall were conservatively biased. Eventually he agreed. But when I started to ask if that bias bothered him as much as the bias on the liberal side, he called me a name and hung up on me! He knew the larger point I was making--that he's just fine with media bias as long as it's biased towards his views--and realized he didn't have a response.

Very entertaining. :)

Because he was lying when he said he was being sarcastic (which I'm sure you already know). It was just an obvious excuse offered after he said some stupid and careless things. We've been here before, but those with TDS (Trump Deification Syndrome) will never admit it.

The entertainment comes in watching them scramble around apologizing for him, even as he keeps pulling the rug out from under them. :)

What newspaper or television news show said Trump told people to inject Lysol? I thought they said that people might be tempted to try it on their own. Trump said it might work with a doctor' supervision, but some people might say they don't need a doctor and try it on their own.
