I cannot but agree with you. She is the central figure... Seated while everyone else is kneeling and facing her as if she is the one being worshipped. Very Catholic and brings to mind the pictures of my youth... All my friends were Catholic and every home had pictures like this, sometimes on an improvised altar with candies and rosary beads draped around on a pretty cloth. There may be a picture of Jesus as a baby also with her... But Jesus was always of secondary focus. A picture of a printed prayer may also be there... To Mary of course. Now I can go along to some extent with the Catholics explanation that it is merely respect and not idolatry. Maybe. But there is a word in it's purest form that describes this practice perfectly... Antichrist. (Replacing Christ... Instead of Christ... In the room of Christ). This picture makes Mary the dominant person in the upper room on the Day of Pentecost. Not in the Bible. This picture gives a false impression and supports the pagan Queen of Heaven worship.
I don't think it's a knee jerk reaction. I think it's a spiritual revulsion at a scene of usurpation of power. If the real Mary was alive to witness this, she would be horrified.
