Is it possible to know for certain that you know God? That you've received eternal life?

Can you really know?

1 John 5
10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Much love!

You should never presume on God, we have hope of Salvation if we run the good race.
What then does this mean to you?

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

If we cannot know whether we have eternal life?

Much love!

Hi @marks I saw the title of this thread and thought: we need to go to John's First Epistle.

I pulled up the thread...and there you were... :)

St. John wrote those things so that when the people do those things they can know that they are in God's grace, not have complete absolute assurance forever.

@historyb We can indeed know full assurance (Hebrews 10.22).

Let us look at Hebrews 10:22 So let us come near to God with a sincere heart and a sure faith, with hearts that have been purified from a guilty conscience and with bodies washed with clean water.

This says not about having absolute assurance, we should never tell God what to do. The best policy is to say
I was saved by Christ's death and Resurrection (Ephesians 2:8, Philippians 2:12), I am being saved by His spirit that works in me each day (2 Corinthians 4:16), I will be saved when I complete the race set before me. (Romans 13:11, 1 Corinthians 3:15, 5:5)

I have said all I can say and I know you all won't agree with me. I am finished in this thread before the fighting begins. Be at peace with God my friends

It's truly more about knowing we are at peace with God (Romans 5.1).

"Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water." Heb 10:22

"When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation." Matt 12:43-45

THIS APPLIES TO BELIEVERS
"Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water." Heb 10:22

THIS APPLIES TO UNBELIEVERS
"When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Is this another attempt to muddy the waters?

Truly my friend, I have never on this forum purposely attempted to muddy the waters.
Then kindly explain why you juxtaposed Matthew 12:43-45 with Hebrews 10:22, since they bear no relation to each other.

Sorry that you either you disagree and/or don't understand. I could explain further but I believe you've already made up your mind on this. Am I wrong?

Are you asking me a question? I am not certain what you mean to say here. You will have to clarify before I can be more specific.

I understand the scriptures in a certain way as a whole including those used in the OP. Apparently @Enoch111 understands them differently as he seems to believe my response was in some how in error.
