Romans 13:2 "Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation."

Those who resist human government are actually resisting God. This will result in their judgment.

The KJV uses the word damnation , but originally that English word simply meant "judgment" without necessarily referring to eternal punishment.

The judgment spoken of probably refers to punishment inflicted by the government, acting as God’s agent, as in verse 4...

Verse 4 - "For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil"

The civil ruler is not necessarily God’s servant in every respect, but only insofar as he helps to keep order in society and to punish lawbreakers.

You keep ignoring the parts of the passage you don't like - in some desperate attempt to apologize for atrocity.
This is because your foundation is so weak - that a chink to any one of your pillars - collapses the whole structure.

This is one of the reasons why the majority of Christianity does not view the entire Bible as the "Literal word of God" - a claim that IMO - makes no sense in light of Romans 13 and numerous other passages.

Question - Which is the word of God

A) children should be killed for the sins of their parents
B) children should not be killed for the sins of their parents .

Faith and grace are not the same thing. That is not semantical.

We are saved through faith...this is the point that I am making. That we are saved by grace does not nullify the other.

Yes but Jesus says you are saved by works -- who are you going to go with .. Paul or Jesus > ?

Jesus said that if you are going to insist on being saved by works...the only work that will save you is a simple faith in Him (John 5:28-29).

That He is using some kind of literary tactic to make a point is evident, in that:

Ephesians 2:8-9 reveals that faith is not a work.

If it were, then, in being saved through faith, I would be saved by works...if indeed faith is a work.

But we are not saved by works; and we are saved through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Sorry @Eternally Grateful
My post was one of those "in general" kind. I was not thinking of what you and Barney were on about. And, yes, i agree, we ARE saved by His grace, through faith, to me, "works" are just what should follow naturally, from the changed heart...and looking in the mirror, chopping off the branches sticking out of our own eyes is a daily thing, so we can see clearly :)
It’s ok sis. Been one of those days.

Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. (Romans 11:22)

But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. (1 Corinthians 9:27)

1 Corinthians 15
1Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. (Hebrews 4:1)

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; (Philippians 2:12)

For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins. (Hebrews 10:26)

Hebrews 6
4For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. (2 Peter 2:20)

You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; (2 Peter 3:17)

Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. (John 15:2)

And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. (Matthew 3:10)

Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. (Matthew 7:19)

If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. (John 15:6)

Luke 22
31And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, (1 Timothy 4:1)

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18)

“But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? All the righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; because of the unfaithfulness of which he is guilty and the sin which he has committed, because of them he shall die. (Ezekiel 18:24)

And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. (Matthew 10:22)

I think a lot of confusion comes in because justification and salvation get used interchangeably.

Certainly but, at the end of the day the 24 million dollar question is what ? How does one get past St Heyzeus ... at the pearly gates.

Some folks talk as if there is no judgement .. claim that they have earned a "get out of Jail" card .. and good for them ... I hope all works out well. Sola Fide ..

My reckoning from the synoptic gospels- is that there will be a Judgement - Paul seems to think there will be a Judgement as well so I would argue the possibility that not even Paul would agree with "Sola Fide" however I would then argue against myself by citing James 2 .. where clearly there were a group of early Christians touting something very similar to "Sola Fide" .

James calls these folks foolish - hence why Martin Luther wanted James sticken from Canon.

The problem is that the Jesus of Matt/Mark - mirrors the Jesus that James is depicting in his argument against Sola Fide .. we also resolve some of the justification issues in James 2. .. and you should be patting me on the back at this point for getting justification into the equation :) ... and rhyming while doing it .. must be a sign .. of .. of "Inspiration" ... and I truly believe this.

Moving back to the original question - how does one make it through the gates.

Christianity is - after 2000 years - still divided over this question - the majority against Sola Fide - and for good reason. Even the Lutheran Church is questioning strict interpretation - as are others.

So then ... if one believes in judgement ... shall we look at some examples of what this might look like ?

How about we ask Jesus in stead of Martin .. or Paul for that matter .. someone who 1) never met Jesus 2) didn't even become a follow until years after the death of our Lord 3) was not part of the "Church of Jerusalem" .. led by James... .. the branch of Christianity that died out after the fall of the Temple and the Fiscus Judaicus - heavy tax on Jews .. after which Christianity started to distance itself from Judaism.

but I digress .. What did Jesus have to say on the issue.

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left"

So then ..how can one argue that there is no Judgement ? But, that is what Sola Fide argues.

Even Paul Seems to believe in Judgement - Jews first - and then the Gentiles .. Jews judges by OT Law .. Gentiles by the law unto their Conscience .. by which they are then "JUDGED". :)
Romans 2
"All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) 16 This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares"

The question is then - if we do have to pass Judgement - and there is no free pass ... what then is the criteria ?

Well if you read the rest of the Sheep and Goats parable from Matt 25 above .. Jesus is Judging on the basis of works ..

read an interesting article on a Lutheran site .. official site kind of thing .. talking about this parable .. saying you can't really contest what is being said -- its a tough one .. there is a reason the majority of Christianity rejects Sola Fide.

but OK .. need more specific . what is the criteria .. is it just works is it both faith and works .. is it a "must have" kind of thing .. one or the other. I want to know how the heck to get through the gates.. and it is not one of those Oh I will just cover all my bases type of thing .. sorry but this is both irrational and illogical.. in a thought stopping bad kind of cult way .. hmmmmm

But, Christianity is divided. One says this .. the other says that .. most say some kind of mixture .. I say none of the above - meaning that I don't think its one, or the other, or necessarily a mixture if that mixture requires both.

Jesus answers this question - in a much more detailed way than in the Sheep and Goats parable "What then is the Criteria" ?

He answers it in his most famous sermon .. Matt 5-7. Not all of the Faith crowd make it according to Jesus “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven"

Did you need a direction sign ? .. particular shade of green to push the pedal ? When I saw this I had only one question .. Don't you ?

What "Will of the Father" is Jesus referring to .. If this is the criteria .. I want to know .. we have Matt 25 .. sheep and goats .. where Jesus divides on the basis of works .. but what is this referring to ?

I will address one of the scripture passages in question....Hebrews 6:4-6...

It should be clear that the rest of the chapter bears out that God gives the blessing of eternal security to those who cling to Christ as an anchor for their soul.

Why are you quoting Ephesians - when the topic is what Jesus said w/r to the issue ? Quote from Mark/Matt por favor

What about Ephesians 1:13-14? And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory
