Idk if I'd say it's a generational thing. I think with my middle daughter, she had a couple friends who had tattoos. I'm grateful my daughter didn't get a huge one. She doesn't need any enhancement. She's absolutely beautiful, as are my other daughters. No improvement needed. :) But if she did, I'd love her just the same. We're very close.

My oldest got hers to keep the name of her daughter (who was stolen) over her heart.
@TLHKAJ Well, I'm sure anyway that your daughters who have indeed had it done had their different reasons for doing it, which to each of them would have seemed strong ones.

I suppose that as far as your youngest daughter is concerned she's not shown any signs of intending to have it done.

Neither of my sons (one who is with the Lord, one still here, age 23) showed interest, even said they had no desire for tattoos. My youngest daughter hasn't shown any interest in getting a tattoo either.

I attended a church where the pastor was an ex marine and he had tattoos and after he got saved he got called into the ministry. He still has the tattoos
@Heart2Soul Well, it's what ppl do, isn't it?

I got my first and only tattoo when I was 25. I was told it was addictive, but for me it was not. .. Probably 75% of the congregation have tattoos, including myself and the Pastor

It would be unrealistic for Christians in North America to think that some fellow Christians in church won't have tattoos.

(Some Christians, instead of fighting it, embrace it instead and use the medium for faith based designs that ppl then may talk about.)

my wife's nurse ... scriptures on the inside of her forearms, looked nice and did start a conversation.

@soul man

As @Heart2Soul said,
it is becoming a norm with health professionals.

Getting tattooed seems to go hand in hand with being a nurse, so often, now; and you can see how see in any case Christian nurses might conclude that getting tattooed with a faith based design (Bible quote or ref. on wrist, or Christian fish sign <><, etc.) would be highly worthwhile doing and inherently unregrettable.

There is in any case overwhelming evidence that Heart2Soul's comment is accurate.

There's a popular tattoo parlor downtown. It's not a big deal to me.
@Ron Coates The increasing popularity of tattoo parlors is undoubtedly partly because whereas years ago it was what some men did, but now so many women - especially young women - do it, too, right?

A lot of young Christians seem to be willing to receive faith based designs that they subsequently talk about to ppl.

@TLHKAJ It used to be years ago that from a certain age some boys might get tattooed and girls might get ear piercings.

Now, both girls and boys sometimes get both ear piercings and tattoos, when they get to a certain age.

It seems it's what they do, especially if friends of their own age have already had it done.

It can all be pretty benign, really, if done in moderation, don't you think?

@Sabertooth Would you understand it if some Christians think that a faith based tattoo, if it's going to be used by them as a witness tool in conversation, may well have pros that outweigh the cons?
That is between them and the Holy Spirit.
Apart from content, I do not see tattoos as being a spiritual issue.
I see them as being on the same footing as
  • make-up,
  • haircut,
  • clothing &
  • jewelry.
Their main difference is their permanence.
The rest of these can have bad content issues, too.
And they can contain edifying content, as well.

(I really don't understand why anyone would crusade for any of the above, though.)

@TLHKAJ Well, yes. This does figure.

If a girl has friends of a similar age who obtain something, whether it's blue finger nails, or 6 inch heels or distressed jeans, she is highly likely to want to do the same as they have.

Even if it means going to the tattoo parlor and going through the pain of a permanent inking.

(This is also why many Christians today seem to think that, instead of fighting the medium of tattooing, embracing it instead - maybe with faith based tattoo which will prove useful in witness among their friends - will likely work.)

I think that God has a deeper call for you than just promoting ink & piercings. You should probably consider this matter spoken for (unless He reopens it later) and see where your long-term focus should be.

It is okay to take a position on these issues as they crop up, but they are not worthy of our life's devotion. I have had quite a few times where I had to give up the "good" for the "best." In those times, the "good" can become a distraction.

I think my oldest is ready she said she been ichin for ink :)
Yes, my girls love the ink -:)
@soul manWell, since today so many from the older generation have very confidently already become real naturals as tattooed women, younger women - such as your daughters - are less and less likely to remain inhibited about going to the parlor for the ink that they, too, may evidently desire strongly. (A more serious point maybe is that this likely will lead to the tattoo medium being used more and more in faith based designs.)
