"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast."
I LOVE that verse.

However - James 2:19 destroys the fallacy that "faith" and "belief" are the same thing.
James 2:19
You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!

Btw, yes all true faith will produce works. But no work contributes anything to salvation, rather it's a result of salvation.
Galatians 2:21
I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the LAW, then Christ died needlessly.”
And in you abject ignorance, you fail to see that Paul is speaking the MOSAIC LAW in this verse.

Faith = Belief + Works, which is obedience to the works that God has prepared FOR us (Eph. 2:10). They are not an "after-effect" of faith, nor are they works of our "own" - and they are NOT works of the Law.
Matt. 25:31-46, James 2:14-26, 1 Cor. 13:1-13, Gal. 5:-6 and many other verses show us that "FAITH" is not simply an emotion - but the WAY you live your life.

until the 20th cent. Most people’s of the world were illiterate that’s why Jesus says to the apostles to teach Matt 28:19
And faith cometh by hearing not reading
And a monk spent his entire life copying one Bible they were very rare, and very expensive, thanks for skipping my point on truth and error!
I think we are misjudging history. The people in apostolic days were not illiterate. Those fisherman Jesus picked could read and write in aramaic and Greek. And probably speak the low latin of the romans.
The dark ages brought on illiteracy through religious owned expensive schools in a feudal society where the peasants were nothing more than slave labor for the land owners... Who were in a lot of cases church officers or royalty loyal to Rome. It wasn't until the reformation and the influx later Byzantine literature from the east that education and learning, including literacy among the lower classes, began to improve.
And certainly, as your encyclicals confirm, the church did not want a laity that could read or understand scripture. An educated lower class was an enemy to Catholic power. And when true education became the norm, the Jesuits then had the task to take over the schools, the seminaries, and the universities and education systems of even Protestant Nations such as the US which they have done with great success in order to control what is taught and how... Especially in regards to history.

Not entirely, my point is that God's preserved truth does not reside in one circumscribable, or definable body..
Gods preserved truth does reside in one circumscribable and definable body. It resides in the Church....just like Scripture says: 1 Timothy 3:15

I have found that Church.

This post must be one of the most startling confessions of true Catholic policy I've seen on any Forum. Well done @theefaith for your honest and integrity. No other Catholic,@BreadOfLife , @Marymog , @Illuminator it anyone else has admitted the above truth. They would rather hide behind abuse or obfuscation or NLP or pretend the last 1500 years didn't exist.
The really sad thing of course is that @theefaith believes it better that we all be dead because we disagree with papal dogma. But kudos to you thee, at least you have the courage of your convictions to admit it.
I’m not sure what you mean by Catholic policy but perhaps when @theefaith spoke of rigor and death he was referring to this:

King James Bible
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him,

And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

Hey Backlit,

The really sad thing is that You don’t even know your own Christian history. :(

How many Catholics were killed by Protestants because they disagreed with Protestant dogma???

How many Protestants were killed by other Protestants because they disagreed with the others dogma???

Your statement was made out of ignorance of history or denial of history. Which one is it???

You got some studying of Your own Christian history to do kiddo before you throw stones.

I’m not sure what you mean by Catholic policy but perhaps when @theefaith spoke of rigor and death he was referring to this:
... That the church would hand over to the state heretics for trial and punishment. That's what I mean by church policy, and that's what @theefaith was referring to. Which must annoy the heck out of you and BoL who constantly bleat the lie that "oh no, the church isn't responsible for the executions of heretics... That was the state's role". What utter hypocrisy. Who was it that stood before the Innocents and demanded "recant or die!!!". It wasn't the local sheriff it Prince. No, it was the bishops and cardinals and priests who oversaw and ensured that the "heretics" so called were 'lawfully' tortured and murdered according to Catholic canon law and policy.

Also note that the disciples and apostles never sprinkled anyone with water, they immersed them. Boy, they must have missed that verse, huh?
Hi Renniks,

I missed the verse that said the Apostles immersed for baptism. Would you share it with me?

Thanks...Mary

I don’t understand what you are saying. Could you be more descriptive?

Are you saying you never will learn your Christian history?

Trolling, inst that what fishermen do to catch fish so the can kill them isnt that what you are doing. I point people to Christ you send them to prison, and that seems to upset people, "No you cant send them to Christ we want them", You cant have them sorry salvation is in Him alone. Your church wont be there to back you up on judgement day and you are now without excuse which is the terrifying thing.

Sooooo will you ever admit that Protestants did the same thing? Or are you going to keep throwing stones in your glass house??
