Cause for me I don't think I do. If I say something that I'm not sure if I should have, or joke about something that I shouldn't have I start obsessing over it and wondering whether or not I sinned and if God is disappointed in me for it because I want to make sure I repent for it if I did something wrong. Otherwise, I start doubting my salvation. :(

See 1 John 1:7.

Whether or not you know whether you have sinned in any given instance or not is based on whether or not you have been or are walking in the light.

If you are in the light, the Holy Spirit will pinpoint sin in your life so that you can confess it and not only be forgiven but cleansed from all unrighteousness.

I guess a little prayer of Lord forgive me if I have sinned always works. :)

If you find that you have sinned, just realize that you have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

Confessing your sin will immediately absolve you of guilt.

@April_Rose

In the OT they described a difference between willful sins and other sins committed accidently or without forethought. The willful sin was a premeditated sin and the prescribed punishment under the law given by God to Moses was death. For other sins when the person became aware of his sin he could take the appropriate offering to the priest to make atonement for the sin.

Since Jesus came and the Holy Spirit was poured out on "whosoever will" our situation has not been not the same. The Holy Spirit is in us to lead us, but Holy Spirit needs raw materials to bring to Life within us so that we can know what we are to do and why. The raw materials can simply the regular reading and studying of our Bibles. We consume it and if allowed to work in us, the Holy Spirit brings it to Life to be used by us when the need arises in our day to day walk with God. This amounts to growing. It is like growing physically except there is no need in this growth of the "new man" [the born again man] to ever grow old or die.

The willful sin for us would be the sin we commit when according to what has been brought to Life in us we go against it and against the direction of the Holy Spirit in us. This cannot be done by accident. It can only be premeditated.

The willful sin then of the OT punishable then by death would be comparable to the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, the unpardonable sin.

You have to be concerned about other sins, for sin not forgiven by God will eventually [not immediately or instantaneously] result in final death for us, but you can speak to God about those sins when they catch your attention and while you still have time [before natural death].

Some people on this forum would certainly disagree with me on this, but that is how I understand it. It especially does not fit with OSAS people.

All your sins past, present, and future have been forgiven already. :)

"A jug of sour wine was standing by. Someone put a sponge soaked with the wine on a javelin and lifted it to his mouth. After he took the wine, Jesus said, “It’s done . . . complete.” Bowing his head, he offered up his spirit."
John 19:29‭-‬30 MSG

It is finished! The veil was torn from top to bottom in the temple, meaning we can go to God now. Confession and repentance are vital in our Christian walk, but we are forgiven of all sin in Christ Jesus... :)

I know that but yet I always tend to beat myself up anyway for not living righteously. :(

Just be a doer of the Word to the best of your ability. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Remember God loves you and that you are royalty.

Just never walk away from God and pursue Him.

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."
Matthew 7:7‭-‬8 KJV

Now remind me of this too if you see me with my head down sister. Because I get it wrong too. Lately, a lot it feels like.

Hi @April_Rose,

What helps me most when I know that I have sinned, is the following doctrines.

We are not under the law (Romans 6:14), are dead to the law (Romans 7:4, Galatians 2:19) and are delivered from the law (Romans 7:6) as concerning condemnation.

Where there is no law (where it does not apply) there is no transgression (Romans 4:15). And sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4). Iow, sin is not imputed where there is no law (Romans 5:13).

It does not mean that when we have sinned, we have not sinned; so that we would not need to confess it for restoration to fellowship; but it does mean that when we sin, God the Father no longer sees our sin but He sees the blood of Christ. He looks at our sins from the perspective of already having been forgiven.

To put it another way, the Lord justifies the ungodly person (Romans 4:5).

This means that He has given us an unshakable identity...that we are righteous...that can not be trifled with...not even when we blow it.

So, we are righteous because of Christ's shed blood. This is imputed righteousness. It means that we have an identity...that we are righteous...and this identity is unchangeable. It is based on our faith in Jesus and His shed blood. So as long as you have such a faith your righteousness cannot be shaken.

Now that you have this identity, go and live like it (1 John 3:7, Romans 5:19, Matthew 5:6).

1st, you shouldn't doubt your salvation. If you even care about it, you're showing a sense of godly sorrow. 2nd, others may consider that you did something wrong, and they may be the ones who are wrong. They be misreading you, or they may be acting in a judgmental way.

Before you repent, ask yourself: Am I loving others? Do I still love God? Have I disappointed God or others in my behavior? None of us are perfect, and we can try too hard. Sin, whether heavy or light, always hurts somebody. If you've hurt somebody, it's time to apologize, if indeed the party is willing to forgive. Otherwise, apologize to God and forget about it.

@April_Rose ,

Luke tells a series of parables by Jesus that detail out the various types of sins...

Sins of ignorance,
Sins of negligence,
Planned sins,
Sins of judgementalism and unforgiveness.

Just hang in there.

None of us are perfect,

That is not what the Bible teaches (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (kjv), Hebrews 10:14 (kjv), 1 John 3:9; 1 John 3:7, 1 John 3:3, 1 John 2:6; Jude 1:24, 2 Peter 1:10, 1 John 2:10; 1 John 3:6, 1 John 2:17; Romans 6:6 (kjv), Colossians 2:11 (kjv), (NLT)).

However, the Lord has grace for those who have not yet been perfected (1 John 2:1).
