Is Halloween a Good thing or a Bad Thing? I have no clue, Some say it is a sinful holiday because it involves dressing up as Demons (Zombies, Werewolves, Vampires, etc.) and Some people believe Halloween came from a pagan Irish holiday where people wore costumes and left "treats" on their doorsteps to ward off evil spirits. Another belief is that Halloween originated from "All Saints Eve," a Christian where people dressed in costumes to make fun of the devil and did other things like that. So what I'm thinking is that all depends on your view of it, Me I don't see much a problem with it. It mostly has to deal with getting to know new people, and having fun as you pretend to be someone or something else. But still would like to see what others think of it.

Yeah, every year on forums there are explanations of the origins of Halloween.
I'm light-heated about it and find it fun to have a mask on my mask.

Great topic! I was like you before... I wondered if it really was bad, or if Christians were just being overdramatic, but thought it wasn't really a big deal, but the more I'm realizing about the spiritual realm the more sensitive I'm being to evil influences.

So, ignoring the origins and whatnots... it's pretty much undeniable that it's the devil's holiday. It's a celebration of darkness.. decorations are scary, the holiday starts at nighttime, people aim to scare and be scared... I can't think of anything about the holiday that gives glory to God.

The Bible says that anyone who is a friend of the world is an enemy of God and "what fellowship can light have with darkness?"

Just just think of it in those terms--not in a condemning way, but as an "I love God therefore I do not desire darkness"

Ephesians 5:1-12
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them; for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.

I think celebrating Halloween is usually a harmless way to enjoy being scared. However, like anything else not focused on God, it can be overly emphasized, which can be a symptom of a greater spiritual problem.

I think for the most part it is harmless fun but like aspen say's it could be dangerous in some cases.

All the dressing up doesn't bother me but I really don't like seeing people ind evil costumes. Anythings I'm not bothered but as a Christian I am offended by people dressing up as the devil even if they don't mean anything by it. Am I being oversensitive or do others feel the same way?

"Harmless way of getting scared?" ... The more I understand spiritual warfare, the more I understand how Christians have been deceived (myself included!).. thinking that trying to get scared is fun! The Bible says the Lord did not give you a spirit of fear but of power, love and self-control... so why would you invite it in? So if God doesn't give it who does? It's the enemy of God! ........So I have to wonder why would you ask to be given something that God himself won't give you?

Sincerely,
am

I think human beings have an innate need to feel scared - perhaps so they can enjoy the feeling of security afterwards - I am not sure. This is why we have rollercoasters and funhouses and horror films, etc. I think it is just the way we are made.

Peace

Bad

Lets make a comparison, those of you that celebrate or dress up for Halloween, would you dress up and go march in a gay parade?
Probably not, why? because even thou you don't support the celebrations principles, " I just think its fun, or what ever your justification " participation is still a sign of support.

Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

BTW I never realized that celebrating Halloween was mandated by Federal and State law.

Okay I still don't see how it's bad. To some Yes it may seem like it's evil. But last I checked no matter how much you deny it. Every person on this earth has both Good and Evil inside them. And there is a point to that. everyone has those thoughts weather it be in the heat of anger or whatever, those thoughts of wanting to do evil things. But we never do them. Now to me Halloween is more then just dressing up in dark scary outfits and scaring people. Every year I see about 95% of all costumes are harmless ones of Comic Book Superheros, cartoon characters, etc. Wearing a costume and pretending to be someone or something else is nothing more then pure imagination. Last I check there is nothing wrong or sinful having a imagination. Saying it's bad or a sin to dress up as a fake person or character means that it's a sin to dress up for a play, movie, television show, whatever. Because if you look at it both are kind of the same. Except Halloween is more like free acting, well to me.

Is Halloween a Good thing or a Bad Thing? I have no clue,

Apparently you do have a clue. I just answered your question from my perspective.
Im not going to be drawn into endless speculation about personal morals and values that Christians hold. I simply gave you mine, take it or leave it. Its really not my kind of topic. Now when Christmas rolls around and Im still here, I will share a few details about the origin.
I knew from the moment that I posted my reply I was going to get replies. Care to sharpen your sword?

BTW you should be asking the people of Catholic persuasion about all saints day, its their church, they change the dates, and redefined it.
The eve of All Saints is known as All Hallows Eve, or Halloween. All Saints Day is November 1

Yeah well All Saints was the info I got I didn't know it was a catholic holiday. To me Catholic, Christian, Jew are pretty much the same, The Same but Different.
