So what you're saying is that to serve God is to not sin? That appears to be what the bible teaches and is something I think I'm learning.
Yes, but it's not a do-it-yourself project. We are to be a yielded vessel that God can perform His work upon. We play an active part, but we are God's workmanship. He teaches us to resist temptations of the flesh by walking in the Spirit. It takes spiritual exercises to enter God's workmanship: Prayer, fasting and dining on the Word of God.
Romans 8
[10] And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
[11] But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
[12] Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
[13] For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
[14] For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
I have little opportunity to serve so I attend online church services as of lately, and I find my temptations are lifting. So that is a "cannot serve two masters" concept? Thanks.
Being continually fed God's Word is part of serving Jesus. The more we feed ourselves the Word [Jesus], the stronger we become in the Spirit. And, the stronger we become in the Spirit, the stronger Satan fights to knock us down. But, the Word gives us the remedy.
James 4
[7] Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Matthew 6:24
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Yes. We can't serve two maters. We will either serve Jesus or the flesh/sin.
