So there's some debate whether or not Jesus could sin and just chose not to or if He was incapable of sinning. I personally believe that He was capable of sinning and just chose not to for two reasons. One,.. if He couldn't sin then why would Satan even bother with trying to tempt Him in the first place and two,.. if He was incapable of sin then I don't think it would have worked for Him being the perfect sacrifice for our sins.

Anyways, so now that I've covered why I think Jesus didn't sin,.. why do we sin? Could we choose to never sin if we really wanted to or is it because that it's in our blood due to the original sin? If the latter part is true how was Jesus born without it when (even though I already know that the Catholics will disagree with me on this but it's not biblical and Mary could have just easily died on the cross for our sins then) Mary was a sinner herself?

Thanks, and a GREAT topic. the Lord Jesus was Tempted in, in, in, the FLESH. all temptation are in the Flesh, which our Lord did not have the sin Nature, (hence the virgin birth). if one notice it was the "Son of God" who was tempted, and not the "Son of Man", the Spirit, (who God is).

and true, in the flesh, as Hebrews 4:15 states. yes, he could have, but he was taught of God in the Flesh which is our example, (Isaiah 50:4). for we, in natural flesh, has not yet resisted sin until DEATH, (which no one is seeking to do), hence he did it for us, (naturally). ...... Hebrews 12:4 "Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin." and this is where he condemned sin at, in the flesh, and that's why we sin, (not praticing it). we haven't died to it in belief yet. Romans 8:3 "For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:"

but here is the answer to not sinning, no, not a Natural death, (which has been accomplish already), but we DIE in BELIF, (and Faith makes this realized) what do I mean? well let God give us the wonderful answer as "HOW NOT TO SIN".

THE ANSWER,
Romans 6:3 "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?" (NOW you see what baptism is for....... ok, believe those who say you don't need baptism).
Romans 6:4 "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." (one need to read that verse again).

Romans 6:5 "For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:"
Romans 6:6 "Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin." (BINGO, this is the key).
Romans 6:7 "For he that is dead is freed from sin."
Romans 6:8 "Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:" we what? .... "BELIEVE", BINGO. don't feel , but KNOW.
Romans 6:9 "Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him."
Romans 6:10 "For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God." (NOW HERE'S THE ANSWER COMING,)
Romans 6:11 "Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." BINGO, that's the answer to sin, LIKEWISE, "RECKON", or CONSIDER yourself to be DEAD unto sin, why, because of your deat..... in Baptism, your baptism remind us that we're dead, WHY? nect verse,
Romans 6:12 "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof." Let is a condition od "CHOICE"... I chose not to sin. meaning NOT to pratice it. well HOW, mnext verse,
Romans 6:13 "Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God." (yield not to temptation? HOW? I don't go to the same places I "USE" to go, nor do I do the thing I "USE" to do. if I use to do drugs, as the scriptures states, DON'T yield ye your members, members here meaning your arms so that you want push a needle of drugs in it. but present your body as a living sacrifice, unto God, Roman12:1)
Romans 6:14 "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." (shall is future tense, meaning that one day we will have rest from sin, in the meantime, ACT LIKE YOU'RE DEAD, FOR THE JUST MUST LIVE BY FAITH. just as your baptism teach you). when sin comes around, (an old boy friend, or girld friend), do what God has given us a Natural example to do, the opossum trick... "PLAY DEAD". Romans 6:11 "Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, and when the sin pass, come alive unto God. Oh the Power of the Baptism, go down dead unto the Wordl, and come up alive unto God.

we suggest one read chapter 7, and 8 to contuine to fully understand how one is dead to sin, and how to advoid it.

Our hearts are the most deceitful above everything else.

That's why.

No matter how hard we try we are going to fail. But...the effort to stop is part of the reason we get salvation.

Jesus could not sin, else He would not have been God.

We sin because we are sinners by nature. it is our natural "bent" to sin.

Then why was Satan wasting his time trying to tempt Him?

It's one of those mysteries surrounding Jesus.
Jesus is fully man and fully God at the same time.
But basically the "man" in Jesus was tempted. Man is corrupt. (Deceitful heart)

But Jesus overcame the temptations.
And did a "smackdown" on Satan.

I still stand by my beliefs and I don't think it matters whether or not He was capable of sin because the Bible doesn't really say one way or the other and the important thing is that He didn't sin not whether or not if He could. However, wasn't the whole entire point of His death on the cross was that He always chose to do right and live righteously?

First thanks for the heads up. I know I can, at times be in a Pleonasm state when responding to certian post or topics, but you seems to have a GOOD UNDERSTANDING HEAD on you. but we all have trouble in understanding each other.

Then why was Satan wasting his time trying to tempt Him?
he was not, he was duing his duty, this tempation was for our benefits. A. know the scriptures, and B. then one can resist the Devil, and he will flee from you. this is made clear in James 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

this is the DEVIL J O B., to test us, in doing so, we get stronger.... for 2 Corinthians 2:11 "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices."

see, evil play a very important role, it has it's place in God's economy. if it was not for the devil,, just drop the "d", many of us right now would be stiffenecked and hard hearted to the core. it's how we deal with it. so as our EXAMPLE, we, as the Lord Jesus the Christ, will be TESTED, not for the devil sake, or unrightiousness, no, but for your and our sake. what you think a testomony is FOR? to give praise to God for GROWTH. but that's another topice by itself...

I think this video pretty much sums it up and describes it pretty well actually. :) My only other question is what made Jesus different from us where He didn't have that desire? Maybe because He was conceived by the Holy Spirit? :/ (Also He definitely felt tempted. He just never gave into temptation.)

Then why was Satan wasting his time trying to tempt Him?
This wasn't the first time God let Satan waste his time trying to prove he knew better than God.

God let Satan have at it for a while with Job over the faulty premise that Satan was a better judge of human nature than was God. God told Satan, and Satan didn't believe Him. God let Satan find out for himself.

Much love!

Jesus was born of a virgin. This was necessary, so that He would not have a sin nature. While He was tempted by everything we were and could have chose to sin, He was like before Adam and Eve ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and sin came into the world.

"Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—"
Romans 5:12

"But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many."

We sin because we are sinners by nature. it is our natural "bent" to sin.

I agree our natural bent is to sin. I disagree Jesus could have not chosen to sin though, because:

Great questions April. ( In our m native language your name is Apirera.. love the name, very pretty.)
Yes, Jesus could have sinned. He was human. Born with all the human capacities for rebellion... But He demonstrated by His faith in the Father that He could live a life of obedience and service. And so can we. In the same manner. Through faith and by connection with God through His Spirit.
KJV 2 Peter 1:2-4
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Jesus was born with the same flesh nature common to man, else how could He be our example?

KJV Romans 8:3
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

KJV Philippians 2:6-8
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Interesting. Never heard Jesus being unable to sin before. Idk what to think about that. But to be tempted by something, I would say a sin has to be involved for Him to be tempted with. He may not have had a sin nature, but He had free will.

"Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."

As far as us sinning, I would say with God all things are possible for those who love God and are called according to His purpose, as it says in Romans 8:28.

To not ever sin, would be impossible, I think, because we all have a before Christ and are born with a sin nature. But after Christ, to not sin again, I would say these things would be needed in no particular order, just as it comes to mind:

1. Pray without ceasing
2. Know the Word of God and speak it over your life as constant reminders
3. Abide in the Word and do everything it says to do.
4. Spirit of worship and praise (music helps fight temptation big for me, if only to distract.)
5. Hang out with the right people (bad company corrupts good morals) while helping any and all who need it with the right motivation in love.

Probably more. And all of this stuff is found in the Word of God. I just strive to be like Christ and do not worry about the not sinning part. I confess it as it comes up to God, but the closer I get to God and His Word, the more Holy Spirit teaches me and shows me things before I sin and I have less of a desire to.

I agree our natural bent is to sin. I disagree Jesus could have not chosen to sin though, because:

"For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin."
Hebrews 4:15 NASB1995

peirazo to try, prove; to test, endeavor, scrutinize, entice, discipline, assay, examine, go about, prove, tempt, try; peira piercing, a test, attempt, experience, assaying, trial; peran to pierce, through, across, beyond, farther, other side, over

Tempt Temptation Greek Word Study

Tempt is one thing sinning is another. It says that He was tempted , so He can be a merciful High Priest who knows the depth of our affliction in temptation.

Jesus could not sin, for He had no sin nature, He had a divinve nature. He could feel the angst of temptation, but could not yield to that temptation.

He would not have been God if He could sin (for God is incapapble of sin), He could not have been Messiah either. The hypostatic union is aver complex and complicated thing to try to understand.

WOW. This reminds me of something my pastor was talking about. That our new nature is incapable of sinning. But we have an old nature too. Jesus didn't have an old nature. Neither did Adam or Eve. But Adam was tempted and fell, Eve did too. They didn't eat of the tree of life either.

Wow. Ill have to search this out. I don't want to just adopt a new theology without studying about it, but never thought about it. I just always thought Jesus could have sinned and chose not to for us. But it makes sense. There are some things I don't think I could have ever said no to if not for God.

God would be incapable of sinning. I am just thinking of the flesh part. It is hard to grasp the concept of being able to be tempted without the ability to sin. (Not a good ability for mankind.)
