While religion can be a cause of conflict, it carries political leverage that many say makes it a source for solutions and a tool for peace building.

Religion and Conflict Escalation. With religion a latent source of conflict, a triggering event can cause the conflict to escalate. At this stage in a conflict, grievances, goals, and methods often change in such a way so as to make the conflict more difficult to resolve.

I recently had a dialogue in YouTube comments concerning how deadly religion is said to be because of the deaths caused by religious conflicts, to which I pointed out the fact that atheism is far more deadly than religion - atheists running (godless by ideology) communist regimes have killed 180:million people in the 20th century alone.

Mao, 30 million; Lenin and Stalin 20 million apiece; Hitler 20 million Russians and 14 million in the Holocaust, plus deaths of Americans and Europeans in the world war he started, etc.

Nothings more deadly than atheism.

Did not Christ say that He had come to bring "a sword" upon the earth? Yes "religion" -- or more precisely the Gospel and conversion -- will bring about conflicts.

When we consider religions from the perspective of the basic tenants and teachings (in the case of Christianity the commandments), we find that they are way more united in teaching and purpose than we make them out to be.

It is the details we tend to cling to when we use religion to create conflict and dissention...

It really depends on what you mean by latient source and political leverage, as to whether religion is a cause of war./conflict.

Since Lucifer became Satan, existence and conflict have been conjoint.

When religious differences lead to conflict the fault is not with religion but with humanity.

This is why I don't believe in organized religion and don't go to church or choose to go by any denomination accept that of Christian.

I pray at home, work or wherever I feel the need to pray.

Just look at all the killing in Ireland over the Catholic and Protestant warfare, does Jesus want this?

I don't care what Christian denomination a person goes by as long as they believe in Christ as the only begotten son of God and is our Savior and that he died on the Cross for us and washed away the sins of the world with his blood, then I regard that person my brother or sister, I judge no fellow Christian brother or sister be they Catholic, Protestant, Mormon, or Jehovah's Witnesses.

I know what I believe and that I am not perfect and will not tell a Christian their denomination is wrong, they will eventually find the way as I did, on my own, if they choose to read the Bible on their own instead of being preached to and told things other than what the Bible tells us by a man or woman, yes I learned of Jesus through the Catholic church and am grateful for that, but God gave me the knowledge and wisdom to seek out the truth on my own, so yes we need some guidance in learning about Christ, but once we learn of Christ our Savior, it is up to the individual to do the right thing and let Jesus take us by the hand and guide us in the right direction.

I have not read the entire Bible, but have read enough to seek the truth, I know right from wrong, I only deal with Jesus Christ and God the Father and no one else.

Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised

Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

False religion is what creates the conflict, not being religious. When Christ returns, He and His saints will prove that true religion unites and puts everyone on an equally advantageous playing field. All of the false religions of this world produce much of the conflict and grievances that exist.
Christianity isn’t a religion anyway.

Religion is man trying to figure God out or to find God.

Christianity is God revealing Himself to man through His son, who came down from heaven to seek and to save that which was lost.
Christianity involves the worship of a deity, a code upon which its adherents are supposed to live by, doctrines they are supposed to believe, and customs they are expected to observe at certain times throughout the year. Christianity is a religion, no matter how "Christians" try to diminish that reality away as being nothing more than an intellectual exercise. The belief that all religion is bad comes from people being ignorant of the fact that God instituted religion from the moment Adam and Eve were created. Christ said His followers are to seek God and His righteousness in Matt. 6:33. In Col. 3:1, Paul says "seek those things which are above". In Heb. 11:6, Paul says God rewards people who seek Him. According to your own logic, Christianity is a religion since it puts man in a position to have to look for God.

Several (actually all) of my teachers and mentors, would frequently point out the death and suffering because a zealot formed a sect out of frequently one verse of the Bible and everyone that didn’t believe as that zealot was evil and had to die.
When I looked history is full of these religious zealots and their wars big or small.

There have been caring Christians that worked for peace and got it.

Put there is amble evidence of religion causing wars and unneeded death.

Yes religion carries leverage, but was that leverage for peace or to force the religion in to ascendancy? Both have happened with the goal of ascendancy being slightly more frequent.

Yours in Christ

A Christian organization called Jews For Jesus approaches the matter from a different angle.

“So, what was Jesus’ religion? The simple answer is: Judaism.”

Jesus wasn’t unaware of the problem. How did he instruct his disciples to deal with it? Would that not be the way for his followers to respond to it?

False. Have you noticed how the apostle John distanced Christ and His apostles from "the religion of the Jews"? Read the Gospel of John. The religion of the Jews -- Judaism -- was a departure from the teachings of the Bible and condemned by Christ as "the traditions of the elders". This was in conflict with the Word of God.
