To be honest I didn't like it either at the time but thinking about it now, that dark evil figure moving mysteriously and creepily among the crowds, gloating and waiting to see the end of Jesus was perhaps the only way he could have been portrayed.
You have described the EXACT thing I was talking about... that figure creeping around... I don't even know why it did not sit well with me... Perhaps it is because there was such HYPE about the movie to begin with that I had too many expectations... Anyways... I don't have an answer either... and it definitely expressed that it was satan. Anyways... thanks for sharing this with me.

Honestly, there's a difference in choosing not to seek out evil content to be entertained by, and "running from evil." But ... scripture says we should do exactly that. Not that we should be fearful, but we should be respectful of the Holy Spirit who indwells us and not grieve Him.

Psalm 101:2-4 (KJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ² I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. ³ I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. ⁴ A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.

1 Thessalonians 5:21-23 (KJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ²¹ Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. ²² Abstain from all appearance of evil. ²³ And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Yes...GIGO!

I believe that the problems many Christians have today are caused by ‘mixture’ which undermines not only the word of God but God’s authority and sovereignty. They may not entirely abandoned God, the Holy One of Israel, but they take up these other gods as well as Almighty God. This is where the ‘mixture’ comes in. It waters down peoples’ perspective of God and distracts from his power and authority. People have become dissatisfied with just one true God, they desire other things as well and in turn these other worldly things begin to become more important to them than God himself. By far the biggest god of this sort in today’s world is self and especially pride when people think they know better than God. Christians need to get back to serving only One True God and to root out anything that that smacks of ‘mixture’.
Oh my goodness, I appreciate this post so much!! I have said this so often on another forum and it wasn't well received. But sadly, it is true.

A lot of truth is not well received on these so-called Christian forums. I have come across a lot of that over the years. But it keeps me going knowing there are those like you that recognise truth when they hear it (or see it).

Ok, as far as horror movies in general, I've never been a big fan, but I have watched some stuff that might qualify for the title.
But I also find it fascinating that Hollywood is so obsessed with good versus evil. In a world where relativism seems to be the predominant moral compass or rather lack of one, we still have all this entertainment whose main theme is good versus evil. I mean look at the whole Marvel franchise.
Did anyone watch "Logan"?
Again, I don't recommend it for everybody because it has a lot of language in it and violence, but it also has a rather biblical theme of redemption.
Sometimes I think the world understands that there really is a war going on better than Christians do.

I am really inclined in agreeing with your last statement first, as there is a whole LOT of things going on in this 'ol world that ARE true, but not ALL things are OF, or sanctioned BY God! (think fallen ones, powers and principalities of darkness, spiritual wickedness in high places, spirit of antichrist, traditions of man/precepts of men). "These "evils/darkness" when confronted by Christians in (what is referred to by "them") the REAL WORLD? (material/flesh) SHOULD be of little consequence! The "problem" is that the "prince of the air," and "he who deceived the whole WORLD?" CAN and DO become quite overwhelming (think IN YER FACE) on a DAILY, and even a "moment to moment" basis, as they employ their intimidating tactics and mannerisms, not only in "those" their servants (think vanity/money/power), but, also within those "tares" that are within us believers! And yes? Even, and especially those "preaching" from "pulpits!" Not to mention those, in a leadership/teaching position in any given "assembly of believers", whether it be "churches of stone", or "small group."
I'm not trying to scare anyone! Just giving account of how MUCH I agree with the posters last statement!
Also saying that there ARE those "in the world", not to mention "within" an assembly of believers, that were not MEANT to be "LOVED INTO HEAVEN!" As they "see" love and compassion as weaknesses that are to be EXPLOITED!

Interestingly enough, concerning this "movie" mentioned by the OP, I was doing some research just last night (REALLY interesting...lol) about some feller named Albert Pike. Who of, by himself? has a "little", but not very much to do with this movie. But, the U-toober, seemingly using Pike's name as a sidebar of sorts, I guess, started into some "conspiracy theories" concerning the holy catholic (universal) church, in which not long after it being established in Rome, having been "infiltrated" by those mentioned in the book of Jude, SOUGHT in destroying the Jews in Jerusalem, AND those they called TRUE Christians! Inasmuch as, the "pope" established the "sons of ishmael" into forming "their" religion of islam, as a "plausible deniability" military arm AGAINST the Jews and True Christians in Jerusalem! Thinking themselves powerful enough, into reigning them back in, after these "dirty deeds!" (think Crusades)
But, there's MORE!
Even substituting Mary as 1 of the 3 "daughters of allah" and even "fatima" in perpetuating their corruptingly evil ILLUSIONS/DELUSIONS!
To the which, I reckon, lends credence as to the content as well as to direction of the movie mentioned by the OP.
Believe it?...Or not?

Anyways!
Have a blessed and safe Passover weekend!
TRULY 1 of us Christians' High Holy Day!

i have never watched it either. ive been recommended to watch the chosen but have not.
Sis, when @Jostler recommended it to me, I let it go in one ear and out the other for over a month. Just the thoughts of watching a Bible movie ... knowing what all the others were like ... didn't appeal to me at all. But once I finally watched them, I was amazed. They're wonderful... well acted, and very thought provoking. :)

This is short... under 20 minutes of a few scenes taken from season one.

yes. she was specifically triggered by the torture i believe. that was quite a while ago.
That makes sense, as "crucifixions" are done in ritual as a mockery of Christ...it would be very triggering.

Marks,
Curious why it was a mistake to see the Passion?
It's all about violence and gore with no message of redemption. It's partly based on the Bible, but throws in a lot of other stuff. Look at who made it. And with all that money he generated from Passion sales, he made Apocalypto.

Mel Gibson took the most central act of all history and all creation and turned it into a gratuitous bloodfest.

But that's just my opinion.

Much love!

Again, I'm not recommending the movie I mentioned, as I have not seen it. I was hoping for some comments on the quote from the movie trailer:
"Be careful who you pray to."
If a film glorifies the satanic, I would say to stay away. But, the truth is, you usually don't know what message is in any film until you see it. I believe a mature Christian can see a movie with mixed messages, and pick out the good and leave the rest. I have at times had God put just a few words on my heart from a movie that was otherwise totally secular. For example, from the movie "Gladiator" "What we do in life, echos in eternity!"
and "Death smiles on us all, all a man can do is smile back." My mind (or maybe its the Holy Spirit) will bring back sentences like that that encourage me to stay the course. Many films have some worthwhile takeaway, even if they are mostly just entertainment.

We all have to choose for ourselves. For me, I already have enough images of evil in my mind, I don't want more. Unless I think a movie is not going to "mixed messages" I don't watch it.

At at the end of day, things like violence and sex and demonic and . . . does not amuse me.

The tagline, "Be careful who you pray to" tells me everything I need to know about the movie.

Much love!

Interesting... I have no desire whatsoever to watch the movie. The ads have come on when I'm trying to watch a youtube video and I always skip them. I sense intense evil in it! But I also think that maybe the writer has some knowledge about some things within the catholic religion that aren't what they seem....

And you are the first one (besides myself) I've seen on a Christian forum bring up the vatican/jesuit origins of islam. :)

I love horror movies, I have always wondered if that’s ok as a Christian. Usually good wins in the end of these movies.

Of course it's okay! They're not real anyways. Even the ones that are supposedly based upon a true story have had a lot of help from Hollywood to dramatize and change things up a bit. This isn't a horror movie, but have you ever seen Bruce Almighty? I know a lot of Christians think that that movie is blasphemous, but I just think it teaches us all what a tough job God has in a really funny way. I just finished watching it again last night. :D

Like what kind of Christian movies? I've seen The Prince of Egypt, Heaven Is For Real, The Nativity Story, not sure if you count Jesus Christ Superstar as a Christian movie but I'm sure I've seen others that I can't think of right now since I've seen a LOT of movies in my lifetime lol and I don't know why I would take offense to that as you were only asking me a question. I saw The Passion of The Christ a long time ago but I prefer Superstar over that. Oh yeah and even though I'm an adult I think the VeggieTale movies are cute. :)

Jeremiah 32:27 Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?
Oh my goodness, sis! I have chills ... good ones! This is one of my favorite verses and you've brought it back to my remembrance, praise God!!

The very first time I read this verse, I was a baby Christian...about 13 or maybe turned 14. I was experiencing some intense spiritual warfare and I lived in a home, where I was the only one serving God. One day, I fell across my bed weeping, no words ... felt compelled to open my Bible and when I did, the first verses I laid my eyes on were ...

Jeremiah 32:26-27 (KJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ²⁶ Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying, ²⁷ Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

I highlighted them in my Bible and that has been a refuge and a comfort to me so very often throughout my life!

Lord, thank You for this reminder!

Thanks for sharing. I have a thread for Christian movies. (Have you seen it?) And when I say "Christian movies" I mean, ones created by Christians.... not ones created by the world that could have some remote sort of Christian application to it. :)
Btw... I loves Veggie Tales, lol ... but not so much since they changed hands. I loved the Nest Entertainment animated Bible cartoons for my kids as well.

Btw,.. I probably liked Jesus Christ Superstar more because I was too busy singing along instead of bawling my eyes out lol and no I haven't seen that thread. I've been too busy doing other things. This is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite films of VeggieTales. :D

I have a very different view of the movie. It may have been one of the most effective evangelistic tools of all time, IMO. Now, as for Mel, again, IMO, he was attacked for making the movie, not just by Hollywood, but by Satan himself. Mel's big fall came not long after. I have often wondered if the man had had Christians praying for him and helping him in his spiritual walk throughout his life and not just in the making of the movie, he could have gone on to greater things in God's kingdom. As it is, he's more of a cautionary tale.
I would have liked to see more of the resurrection, but the focus of the movie was on his suffering, maybe because it was Catholic-based.
Of course, the Passion is a hard movie to watch, but then, it should be.
