Your question is a wee bit vague, but Malachi 3 is considered Messianic and also parallels the curse written upon the flying scroll in Zechariah chapter 5. As far as the application to your heart, if it's a feeling of conviction, then confess it to the Lord, give Him the glory, and praise Him for the remission of all sin. If it's a blessing, accept the responsibility, give Him the glory, and praise Him for His grace. The Lord just gave me remembrance of this verse and to be honest, I never quite got it before:
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 1:20
With regard to your last question, if you can understand it, it's for you.
The problem with this belief is that Mal. 3 is only partially messianic. Verses 2 and 3 says Christ will come like a refiner's fire and will make the corrupt ministers experience the Tribulation to make them repent. That didn't happen the first time Christ came because He simply made the Levitical priesthood obsolete and the Tribulation is still a future event. Verse 5 also says Christ will come as a Judge. That didn't happen the first time either, because He stated that He didn't come to judge anybody. It becomes pretty obvious at the end of the chapter that the entirety of Mal. 3 primarily concerns Christ's return, the Laodicean ministers, and the Philadelphians who remained loyal to God in this era.

@Ziggy Malachi is a wonderful little prophecy. 3.16 shows how God's pilgrim people can encourage one another for the glory of the Lord's name. :)

Mal 3:16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
Mal 3:17 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
Mal 3:18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

@Ziggy I love those verses; and like you quoted they do seem to come over especially well in the King James.

When I put Malachi 3 & 4 alongside Matthew 13, am I sensing something that is spiritually-discerned, that has to do with the Lord's working in my heart, or am I just imagining it? And what exactly did Jesus mean when He said, "Let him who has ears, hear?"
@Truman Interesting that both Malachi and Matthew 13 have a time period context before the beginning of the church age...

I'd reveal that the ears-to-hear thing that Jesus was referring to is the revelation that what He is talking about is progressive sanctification, but I wouldn't want to start trouble...you know, like Jesus wouldn't, either...right? o_O

@Truman, Well, New Testament wasn't given yet, at that time....

The great truths of the death, burial, resurrection and ascension were still to have future fulfillment...

That's what I was thinking.
Although it would line right up with end times prophecies.
Maybe everything else they tried so far isn't killing us fast enough.
They probably made themselves a nice cozy planet somewhere, and Elon Musk probably has a fleet of space vehicles they can all get away on.
And they will make this planet sooo miserable that people will want to go to this new world.

I will take half an earth existing in peace, then a new planet run by those who leave everything in their path in destruction.
And those which kept not their first estate...
what is that?
Jde 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

Anything is possible..
these people are sick,
and they don't care about us.

Hugs
I do think its possible it could, rather ironically, lead to harming the planet, rather than saving it…which would in turn lead to fulfilling prophecy. I would not discount it, anyway. God has proved before he has a sense of humour. As people scurry and strive, he sits in the heavens and laughs.

However…I’m not sure I buy into the idea that the powers that be are intent on damning this planet to prove their point while they have a tidy get-a-way tucked in the wings. I don’t think they’re that smart. Maybe Elon…but even he doesn’t have the reach, money or tech yet.

I think what’s most likely going on here is that they truly think they’ll be saving themselves. They’re trying to be the hero's of the piece. It’s like trying to paddle upstream…almost pointless. In the end, they’ll end up cowering in the rocks and mountains crying out for them to hide them from the face of the Lamb. There will be no escape for them…they plot and rage in vain.

A Coronal Mass Ejection is the only literal means whereby all the vividly stated prophesies about the terrible Day the Lord will send His fiery wrath to change the world.

THE LORDS WRATH – how will it happen?
This much prophesied, still to come, Lords Day of vengeance and wrath – will happen at the same time as an attack against Israel. Psalms 7:12-16 People think there may be a nuclear exchange, but what is more certain is what the prophets say:
Jeremiah 50:25 The Lord opens His armory and brings forth the weapons of His wrath, for this is His work to be done in the lands of the godless peoples.
Isaiah 34:5 For My sword appears in heaven, it descends in judgement.
Psalm 11:4-6 The Lord is in heaven, raining fiery coals onto the wicked.
Isaiah 66:15-16 See, the Lord is coming in fire, like a whirlwind. He will judge with fire, His sword will test mankind and many will be slain by Him.
Isaiah 33:10-12 Now I shall arise, says the Lord, I will exalt Myself. You will be as chaff and stubble, a wind like fire will consume you. Whole nations will be heaps of white ash, like thorns cut down and set on fire.
Psalm 144:5-6 Lord, part the heavens. Make lightning flashes far and wide.
Isaiah 30:30 Then the Lord will make His voice heard in majesty...descending in fierce anger with devouring flames of fire amid storms and hail.
Jeremiah 30:23-24 See what a scorching wind has gone out from God, a sweeping whirlwind which whirls around the heads of the wicked. The Lords fierce anger is not to be turned aside until He has fully accomplished His purposes. In Days to come you will understand.
Isaiah 29:5-6 Yet, the horde of Your enemies will crumble into dust, fly away like chaff. Suddenly in an instant punishment will come from the Lord, with storms, thunder, earthquakes and great noise and a flame of devouring fire.
Isaiah 9:19 The land is scorched by the Lord, the people are like fuel for the fire.
Isaiah 10:17 The Light of Israel will become a fire, its Holy One a flame, which, in one day will burn up and consume His thorns and briars.
Isaiah 30:26-30 On the Day that the Lord saves His people, the sun will shine with seven times its usual brightness and the moon will be as bright as the sun.
See; the Lord comes from afar, His anger blazing and His doom heavy. His lips are charged with wrath and His tongue is a devouring fire. His breath is like a torrent in spate. He sieves out the nations for destruction.

Isaiah 63:1-6 He tramples the nations and His cloths are splashed with blood. NOTE; Jesus Returns with already blood splashed clothes. Revelation 19:13

What these (and many other) prophecies, seem to be describing is sunspot activity.
Maybe the sun is building up to a huge Coronal Mass Ejection, something we do experience with minor CME’s. They happen very suddenly and unexpectedly, reaching earth within hours and are capable of causing enormous damage and deaths worldwide.
All electrical and communications systems, industry, transport; our modern infrastructure could be destroyed, or at least severely damaged. Armies would be back to 1800’s technology.

A CME explosion of the suns surface, as described in Isaiah 30:26, with the sun flashing 7 times brighter, would be one of unprecedented magnitude and would literally cause all the graphically prophesied effects. For example; the moon would shine bright red as it reflects this sun explosion and our satellites would crash to the earth, like ripe figs falling. The microwave effect will cause tectonic plate shift. Deuteronomy 32:22

@Naomi25 I really love the little prophecy of Malachi! So relevant to the idea of the pilgrim character of the church today (although as a dispensationalist I don't technically see the church itself in view in Malachi...)

Written in the Book of Life

Malachi 3:16-18 Those who loved the Lord and kept His Laws, met together and the Lord watched them and listened to their supplications. A record was written before Him of those who feared Him and had respect for His Name. They will be Mine, says the Lord Almighty, My own possession on the Day that I appoint and I shall spare them, as a father protects his son who serves him. Once more, you will be able to tell the difference between the good and the wicked, the servant of God from the person who does not serve Him.

Daniel 12:1 There will be a time of anguish, but at that time the Lord’s people will be delivered, all those whose names are written in the Book of Life.

Jeremiah 10:18 The Lord says; This time, I shall throw out the whole population of the holy Land, I will bring disaster and doom upon them all. Ezekiel 21:4

Psalm 50:3-6 Our God is coming and will not keep silent, a consuming fire runs ahead of Him and around Him a great storm rages. He summons heaven and earth to the judging of His people. Gather to Me, My loyal servants, those who by sacrifice have made a Covenant with Me.

Zephaniah 2:3 Seek the Lord, all you who obey Him and it may be that you will be sheltered on the Day of the Lord’s anger.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is anyone who trusts in the Lord, they will be like trees by a stream, when the heat comes they will have nothing to fear.

Psalm 60:4-5 For those who fear the Lord, He has made a sign by which they may escape the disaster. Those dear to Him will be delivered by His strong Right hand.

Isaiah 43:2b..... you will walk thru fire and not be scorched, thru flames and not be burnt.

Psalm 37:9-13 The wicked plot against the Lord’s people, they hate to see those who worship Him and keep His laws. But the Lord laughs at them and in a little while the wicked will be no more, however hard you look you will find their place empty. For evildoers will be destroyed, but those who trust in the Lord will possess the holy Land and enjoy untold prosperity.

Isaiah 65:9b My chosen ones will take possession of the holy Land and those who serve Me will live there. 1 Cor. 2:9

Psalm 118:16-29 With His mighty Right hand, the Lord will give victory over the surrounding nations. This is the Day the Lord takes action, it will be a Day for us to exult and rejoice. The Lord’s people will not die, they will live to proclaim His mighty deeds. Our prayers for deliverance and prosperity will be granted, we will bless Him who comes in the Name of the Lord. [At the Return of Jesus, years later.] You are our God and we will praise and exalt You. It is good to give thanks to the Lord, for His love endures forever.

Righteous people, who worship God and keep His commandments, all faithful born again Christians, will have their names written in the Book of Life. They will be protected and delivered when the heat comes; the consuming fire of the Lord’s wrath, that will burn His enemies to ashes. Malachi 4:1-3 The whole population of the holy Land will be gone, the Land empty and deserted, Zephaniah 1:18 and then the Lord promises the Land will bring forth fruit and become like a garden land, Ezekiel 36:8, Isaiah 35:1-2, then those who fear Him and have respect for His Name will rejoice, as they gather and go to live in peace and prosperity in the new nation of Beulah. Isaiah 62:1-5
