Jesus is God.

Christ, the Father, and Spirit are three different persons. One, two, three. Christ doesn’t pray to Himself, He prays to the Father- another person.

Together they are one God. You can’t follow the Son without also following the Father- they are going to tell you the exact same thing. You can’t listen to the Spirit and without also listening to the Son. Glory for the Father is also glory for the Spirit. Etc.

Versus actual polytheism where you can do stuff like follow Zeus and anger Athena.

How can Jesus be "a god"?

You rightly say this is impossible.

The idea that Jesus is ' a ' god, is a jehovahs witness falsifcation. They jump through more than there normal hoops to try to prove that Jesus is not God.
In John 1 there is no ' a ' they have to put it in with no lingusit justifcation for it, hence the greater than normal hoops to jump through.

May I suggest you do not use a watch tower new world mistranslation of the bible.
Instead use biblegateway where you can compare many different translations.

Please help me to understand what is meant here. If Jesus was "a god" then He could be THE God or a false god. What else could this mean? How can Jesus be "a god"?
You mean God with a capital G, Jesus is the son of God, not God himself, only the one in the highest that created the Heavens and the Earth has that title.

Jehovah's Witnesses do no such thing, they simply tell the truth, that Jesus is the Son of God, that sits at the right hand of his Father.

Did they not teach you grammar in school on when and how to use capital letters or are you spelling that way to show disrespect?

Three people cannot be the same person, he is either one or the other, in that case you would be worshipping three Gods, then you are practicing polytheism, which is a sin.

Hi Jack, Jesus never claimed to be God or any other God..:)

Jesus said- "Why do you call me good?' No one is good except God alone" (Luke 18:19)
Jesus said - "Only God knows when Judgment Day will be, I don't know myself" (Mark 13:32)
Jesus said - "I say nothing of my own accord, i only say what my father tells me to say.." (John 12:49)
God himself said - "This is my beloved son, listen to him" (Matthew 17:5)

from the online new world translation:- In the beginning was the Word,+ and the Word was with God,+ and the Word was a god.

The JW believe and teach that Jesus is a god.

It is part of the reason why they are a nonChristian cult.

John 1:1-5
The Word (Jesus) Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word (Jesus) was with God, and the Word (Jesus) was God. 2 He (Jesus) was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him (Jesus) all things were made; without him (Jesus) nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him (Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:14
The Word (Jesus) became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

BUT although Jesus is God he is not the Father or the Holy Spirit. It is not logical but our God is One God with three separate persons. Father Son and Holy spirit and please @Jack don't let anyboy mislead you and tell you otherwise as there are some sects/cults who do not believe what the bible says and it is the Jehovah's witnesses who have added 'a god' to the scriptures changing it's true meaning to suit their own beliefs.

Yes, please do not be mislead. I hope that God will be merciful to those who have been deceived by the lies of the devil, but it is heresy according to orthodox Christianity. Reference the Nicene Creed--in describing Jesus it is indicated he is "God of God, Light of Light, Very God of Very God; begotten, NOT MADE, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made". Since it is unorthodox and heretical to consider that Jesus is not God himself, those who do worship him rightly should not have fellowship with those who do not.

And yes, it is certainly possible that Jesus is a false God. It would be intellectually dishonest to say that it is impossible. Just about anything is possible in theory. So you should be very certain that this is in the revelation of God that Jesus is the incarnate God came down from heaven. We cannot understand the Trinity and those who deny it will say that it is no where in the Bible. Yet there are a few things that are not stated clearly in the Bible that Christians hold as orthodox beliefs (meaning to deny them would be heresy). One that comes to mind is the resurrection (this is the most clear example I know of where Jesus outright declares that a belief is mistaken and utilizes the method of Scriptural interpretation to clarify a biblical doctrine; refer to Mark 12). No where is the resurrection stated clearly in the Bible and Jesus encourages us to utilize our God-given abilities to interpret Scripture aright when he declares that God is not the God of the dead but of the living when the Sadducees who deny the resurrection attempt to trip him up on it.

This is where you are wrong they do not teach Jesus is a God, but the Son of God Jehovah. Please do not make false accusations, that would be bearing false witness against thy neighbor.

@dhh712 How do you find 1 Corinthians 15.20? "Now is Christ risen from the dead".

That he has conquered our last enemy, death and that this (his resurrection from the dead) is the mark of approval from God the Father of his work here on earth--that he has accomplished what the first Adam failed to do: earn eternal life for all who are found in him.

I explained how three persons are one, and how that is different from polytheism.

With all possible respect, JW denying that Jesus Christ is God is a big deal. Many would say even a damning issue.

I agree. I can't take the place of God and say they are not saved, but this is a hill I will die on and will make no compromise. Those who say Jesus is not God are not my brother or sister. I have no fellowship with the lies of Satan.

I do pray that God will be merciful to their misunderstanding. He is boundless in mercy. I do not doubt these heretics mean well and, there definitely are heretics in heaven. It's not our beliefs that save.

And I'm well aware that those who say Jesus is not God believe that my belief that he is is heretical (to their creed. It is a fact to say that denying the deity of Jesus is heretical to Orthodox Christianity). We will find out who has the correct biblical interpretation soon enough.

@dhh712 I think the point is that Scripture already reveals what is the truth. ('Thy word is truth' (John 17.17).

Yes their translation is a joke- no one from the WTS knew any Hebrew of Greek. The translation is 100 % biased.
