God had sent Jesus to forgive sins, but after his resurrection Jesus told the apostles, "‘As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained’" (John 20:21–23). (This is one of only two times we are told that God breathed on man, the other being in Genesis 2:7, when he made man a living soul. It emphasizes how important the establishment of the sacrament of penance was.)

Jesus gives others the power to forgive or retain their [ our ] sins , [ 2 Cor. 2: 10 ]

You cannot be UNBORN again.

But you can be twice dead!

Jud_1:12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

2Pe 2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
2Pe 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

You need to remember once you are saved, that is only the beginning of your journey with God through Christ. As it takes prayer and Bible reading also to lean on the Lord. God is not just a one day Sunday a week God. He is everyday, everytime, all the time! 24/7!

Yes! :)

And he desires our relationship! Finding a good lawyer so as to make God's word force him (in our own imaginations) to accept us will not pass with the Lord.

How ironic that OSAS provides no assurance of faith, all. The only thing that happens is instead of worrying that you may lose your salvation, the Christian worries that they were never saved in the first place. It is like trying to hold onto a fist full of sand.....

Hi Kidron,

The first 10 verses of 1st John are not written to Christians, but are written to unbelieving jews.
John is giving them the Gospel.

Look at verse 3......and you will realize that he is not talking to those already born again, as they would already BE in FELLOWSHIP with John and the rest.

As I said before, no-one writes a letter intending the first few lines of it for another person. If they wanted to write to the other person, they would have sent it there. John's letter is written to Christians. He may be showing a distinction between those who know the Lord and those who don't, but the whole letter was to believers.

Dfly,

Jesus died once for the SIN of the world.

His is a one time payment for the entire thing.

So, sins are gone...........and in their place is.............. Romans 4:5,6,11, & 24.

And after this has happened to us as soon as we are born again, then Romans 5:1 >>>>>>>>into Romans 3:28 is the end of our story.

Dfly, you cannot possibly remember all the sins you commit day by day hour by hour and repent of them all.
You are going to miss one at some point, but NO WORRIES, as God has already forgiven you for them all.

(see the CROSS for an update on all your sins being forgiven) ^_^

I think you could do with reading Romans in Young's Literal Translation to realise there's a difference between 'sin' and 'sins', for if you did already you wouldn't write 'Dfly, you cannot possibly remember all the sins you commit day by day hour by hour and repent of them all.' You would expect a believer to be walking in the habit of victory over sin, and not committing sins.

1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Thank you for acknowledging that a Christian can 'sin'. But you are still tinkering with scripture.

The Bible does not say that if a Christian sins, he ought not to repent, nor that he needs no forgiveness from God. There is always a need to be right with God and that's directly where John takes the believer - to the Saviour. Notice how he states this in the present tense - 'He is the propitiation for our sins'?

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have
an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins ... '

This agrees with the rest of the New Testament. But there is no mention of 'future sins', as you call them.

Luke 17:3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent,
forgive him. 4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again
to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for
Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Luke 11:4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us.

Matthew 18:32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave
thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: 33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy
fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors,
till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also
to you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

2 Corinthians 2:7 So that contrariwise ye [ought] rather to forgive [him], and comfort [him], lest perhaps
such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

James 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have
committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Acts 8:13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and
wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.... 18 And when Simon saw that through
laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, 19 Saying, Give
me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. 20 But Peter said
unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased
with money. 21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be
forgiven thee.

Peter was speaking to a Christian.

Did you ever read about the boy in Corinthians who was sleeping (sex) with his mother?
Its in your New Testament.............and Paul told the church to forgive him......

Oh YEA..
All that is just sin....and all sins have been paid for.. and God does not even now or forever hold you accountable for them.

Actually, Paul told them not to eat with him until he had repented. The man was to repent towards God. We are talking about a Christian again. Then, if he repented towards God, the brethren were to forgive and receive him back among them. The brethren were to repent also, for having tolerated him in their company without rebuking him.

[font=lucida sans unicode']I can go directly to the book of Hebrews, (written to the Hebrews), and pull out the verses that most of you will use who think you can lose your salvation..[/font]

[font=lucida sans unicode']I can go to Paul's comment about being a "castaway"just like you can.[/font]

I can post the scripture that says if you dont forgive, or if you deny Christ, .........""

But there is no need to do any of that because you cannot lose your salvation.

The problem with your doctrine of not losing one's salvation, is the ease with which you alter scripture to prove it.

Some people give up their faith Christ. Then, they go and live how they like. Simple as. They don't even claim to be Christians any more. But you want us to believe they will be saved? How does God work round all their unrepented sin to forgive them if they are not still trusting in Christ? Seriously. This is another addition you have made.

Ezekiel 18:23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: [and] not that he
should return from his ways, and live? 24 But when the righteous turns away from his righteousness,
and commits iniquity, [and] does according to all the abominations that the wicked [man] does,
shall he live? All his righteousness that he has done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that
he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them shall he die.

1 Corinthians 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall
be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 14 If any man's work abide
which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall
suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of
God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall
God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which [temple] ye are.

Acts 3: '... A prophet [Jesus Christ] shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like to
me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say to you. 23 And it shall come to pass,
every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

Yes thats correct........once Jesus has died for your sins, you are eternally "purged" of them all.
Apparently you thought that only the sins you committed before you were saved are forgiven?
Is that what you are trying to based your phony "i can lose it", argument on?

Listen, name for me the sin that you can commit after you are saved that God who is Omniscient didnt know you would commit when he saved you.

The answer is....

God knew of all the sins you were going to commit after you were saved, and prepared a savior who died on a cross for them ALL.

Mr Rberger, you sinned today, and you'll sin tomorrow., so, does it matter regarding the SIZE of them?
You seem to think that if your little sins are ok, then Aspen's BIG sins are not.

So, the problem is not big or little sins, the problem is that you dont have any idea what God has done for you, apparently.
You think that your salvation is based on your DEEDS , and if that is so, then you have never understood what the Cross is all about.

And finally, if you are a Christian who lives in sin, there are things you can lose, but SALVATION is not one of them.

You can lose your testimony.
you can lose your health.
you can lose your job, family, and life.

So, you can absolutely lose some things if as a Christian you dont live according to the principals of the bible, however, as your salvation is not based on your WORKS, then your WORKS cannot undo the Grace of God which is the FREE PARDON of all your sins...........past, present, and future.

K
You are saying that you are going to Heaven = salvation ?

I have never met a person in my life that thinks their works get them into Heaven, never ! but i have come across many people ranting about the RCC that they do believe in works salvation, fact is the RCC do not and never have.

You must repent of all your sin. Jesus loves the sinner but hates the sin. we should have a back bone and seek Spiritual guidance to help us on the right path.

The Cross is nothing at all. it's Christ crucified. i see people wearing a cross and this means noting at all ? it's when Jesus is on the Cross that it is of significance.

Jesus died for the sins of the whole world. Reading the bible then saying you "have" Jesus because you read something you liked has no basis in reality. And you wonder why the old RC corporation banned bible reading? Not that I agree with the RC....but to do such a disservice to the word...

When I was in Catholic School, we were indeed forbidden from reading the Bible.
They said there was information in the Bible that would only confuse us and "all we needed to know" is in the Catechism.

I used to think this was ridiculous...but the way people twist the meaning of scripture and false pastors warp the minds of their listeners I must say that there is a certain wisdom in this.

-- Seeing as how the Catholic schools had a captive audience via school from 1st through 12th grade and every Sunday Mass, they could have given not only a good introduction of the Bible but helped introduce the "pitfalls" and how to avoid them.

Funny how the Catholic church wanted their students to graduate from high school with little if any understanding of what is in the Bible.

Isn't the problem of not understanding the scriptures due almost entirely to reading them without the assistance of the Holy Spirit's teaching? If one has been taught by a Spirit-filled teacher, God can use that to implant truth, but if the teacher was not taught by the Holy Spirit, the reader receives the words in a different way. In fact, if the student has the Holy Spirit, but the teacher doesn't, it can be a most uncomfortable experience to listen.

Episkopos, I would like to think your comment was written in haste, and that really you both believe it would be better for God to do the teaching.

It's just that I can understand why somebody (using carnal reasoning of course) would want to not risk having the unlearned and unstable both deceiving themselves and others through a wacky interpretations. The RC wants unity at all costs. Real spiritual life is far too risky!!! ;)

The Holy Spirit was only "ever infused" into the Church at Pentecost , those apostles were the nucleus of the only Church that Jesus "ever' left for "all" of us. All Christians present received the HS gift of interpreting Holy Scripture [ OT ] then only those from that lineage in the future were also able to interpret the completed Bible
As far as any teacher of Scripture, explainig with the correct interpretation, then that would be any successors directly from one of those apostles and those that they ordained as qualified teachers[ bishops/ teachers ] and so on down to us today.

Episkopos, i agree with this that you wrote: "I used to think this was ridiculous...but the way people twist the meaning of scripture and false pastors warp the minds of their listeners I must say that there is a certain wisdom in this." - very true

While I understand the motive...I still don't condone it. One error doesn't cover up another.

Hi Episkopos,

Thanks for ironing that all out. :)

I had an idea that you would not want the comment I quoted, to have been taken as your most clearly expressed opinion.

Jesus' Teaching on Losing Salvation

Matt. 7:18 - Jesus says that sound trees bear good fruit. But there is no guarantee that a sound tree will stay sound. It could go rotten
.
Matt. 7:21 - all those who say "Lord, Lord" on the last day will not be saved. They are judged by their evil deeds
.
Matt. 12:30-32 - Jesus says that he who is not with Him is against Him, therefore (the Greek for "therefore" is "dia toutos" which means "through this") blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. This means that failing to persevere in Jesus' grace to the end is the unforgivable sin against the Spirit. We must persevere in faith to the end of our lives.

Matt. 22:14 - Jesus says many are called but few are chosen. This man, who was destined to grace, was at God's banquet, but was cast out.

Luke 8:13 - Jesus teaches that some people receive the word with joy, but they have no root, believe for a while, and then fall away in temptation. They had the faith but they lost it
.
Luke 12:42-46 - we can start out as a faithful and wise steward, then fall away and be assigned to a place with the unfaithful.

Luke 15:11-32 – in the parable of the prodigal son, we learn that we can be genuine sons of the Father, then leave home and die, then return and be described as "alive again."

John 6:70-71 - Jesus chose or elected twelve, yet one of them, Judas, fell. Not all those predestined to grace persevere to the end
.
John 15:1-10 - we can be in Jesus (a branch on the vine), and then if we don't bear fruit, are cut off, wither up and die. Paul makes this absolutely clear in Rom. 11:20-23.

John 17:12 - we can be given to Jesus by the Father (predestined to grace) and yet not stay with Jesus, like Judas.

John 6:37 - those who continue to come to Jesus He won't cast out. But it's a continuous, ongoing action. We can leave Jesus and He will allow this because He respects our freewill.

John 6:39 - Jesus will not lose those the Father gives Him, but we can fall away, like Judas. God allows us not to persevere.

John 6:40 - everyone who sees the Son and believes means the person "continues" to believe. By continuing to believe, the person will persevere and will be raised up. Belief also includes obedience, which is more than an intellectual belief in God
.
John 6:44 - Jesus says no one can come to me unless the Father "draws" him. This "drawing" is an ongoing process.

John 10:27-28 - when Jesus says, "no one shall snatch them out of my hands," He does not mean we can't leave His hands. We can choose to walk away from Him
.
Rev. 2:4-5 – Jesus tells the Ephesians that they abandoned the love they had at first and have fallen. Jesus warns them to repent and do the works they did at first, otherwise He will remove their lampstand (their awaited place in heaven).

Rev. 3:4 - in Sardis, Jesus explained that some people received the white garment and soiled it with sin.

Rev. 3:5 - Jesus says whoever conquers will not be blotted out of the book of life (see Exodus 32:33). This means that we can be blotted out of the book of life. We can have salvation, and then lose salvation by our choice.

Rev. 3:11 - Jesus says to hold fast to what we have, so that no one may seize our crown. Jesus teaches us that we can have the crown of salvation and lose it.

Rev. 13:10; 14:12 - we are called from heaven for the endurance and faith of the saints, keeping the commandments and faith.

Rev. 21:7 - we must conquer in order to share in our heritage and become a true son of Jesus.

Rev. 22:19 - we can have a share in the tree of life in God's holy city and yet have that share taken away from us.

The only people who argue that you can lose your salvation are those who are..

A.) not saved.

B.) do not understand what GRACE actually is and does.

So lets just keep this simple.

To begin with, i can post all the wrongly divided and misunderstood... "lose your salvation scriptures"... that the deceived will post to try to harm your mind and your walk with God.

I can go directly to the book of Hebrews, (written to the Hebrews), and pull out the verses that most of you will use who think you can lose your salvation..
You know, the one about "if we sin willfully there remaineth"...
But i wont go there, because those scriptures are not written doctrinally to anyone who is saved.
You probably didnt notice that, because your limited bible understanding has concluded that........"if its in the bible, its DOCTRINE for the believer".
And of course this is nonsense.

I can go to Paul's comment about being a "castaway"just like you can.

I can post the scripture that says if you dont forgive, or if you deny Christ, .........""

But there is no need to do any of that because you cannot lose your salvation.
And again..........you cannot lose your salvation.
You could not lose it if you tried, if you wanted to, if you hoped you could, or if you decided you would.
Its IMPOSSIBLE to lose your salvation.
You cannot be UNBORN again.

Now for the benefit of those Christians here who are worried they could lose it, or worried they did.
Let me assure you that you cannot lose your salvation, you have not lost it, and you will NEVER lose it.

Now, why does a person think they can lose their salvation.??????
Hebrews 5:13 tells you why......"For everyone that uses milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness, for you are a BABY""

The reason you think you can lose it, is explained in these 6 words from that verse.....""unskillful in the word of RIGHTEOUSNESS".

Now....are you watching the birdy?.........are you paying attention?
What does, "unskillful in the word of RIGHTEOUSNESS" mean????
It means a believer has an immature and under developed understanding of what JUSTIFICATION and IMPUTATION and REDEMPTION means.
It means that you have not even a basic understand of the redemptive process that has happened to you, and if you did, you would never again even consider the possibility that you can lose your salvation.

Now, Let me ask you a question.
Do you think God is stupid?
Let me ask you again.
Do..........you..............think...........God is STUPID?

Do you really believe he would create a salvation that is based on the brutal execution of his Son, and create such a redemption so that you could easily mess it up after he did it?
Do you think God is going to offer you something so important and so costly that you can mess up after you receive it?
He would be STUPID do to that,.........as that is just "the garden of Eden deja vu Part 11"
Do you think God is going to go there again, and let you mess it up, as did Adam?
He would be a FOOL to do that......he would be ignorant to offer again the SAME situation into the hands of MAN,.... KNOWING what MAN will do every time.
Now you think about that.

Now here is what he Did.
The first time, he offered Man a choice, and man chose the apple instead of him.
The second time, God created a redemption that is based on HIM DOING IT ALL and APPLYING IT TO YOU for eternity.
Understand?
See, here is the thing about salvation..........YOU HAVE NO PART IN IT...........except to get it for free.
You dont earn it, you dont deserve it, you dont keep it.........you have NO PART IN IT, as God did the whole thing for you, complete with a sacrifice and a pardon, and all you do is TAKE IT.
And once you do, it is SEALED to you, it is become Who you ARE, it is become your new identity.
The thing you dont understand..........those who think you can lose it and would try to torture other Christians with your madness, is that God purchased you, he bought you with the blood of Christ.
You are the PROPERTY of GOD, and you are never going to be anything else.

Salvation is the means whereby God has become your ETERNAL owner........or as Paul says........."a bondslave" of Christ.
The bible tells you that ""You are NOT YOUR OWN, YOU ARE BOUGHT WITH A PRICE">.""
And the price is the Blood of Christ.
Do you understand that?

And you say......but what if i say......."G...Damn, .....or what if i get angry at God and tell him i hate him and hate his Holy Spirit ?.
So what
Did you ever read about the boy in Corinthians who was sleeping (sex) with his mother?
Its in your New Testament.............and Paul told the church to forgive him......
Oh YEA..
All that is just sin....and all sins have been paid for.. and God does not even now or forever hold you accountable for them.
Did you ever read Romans chapter 4???
God has replaced your sin with his Righteousness.
Done deal.
Your bible tells you that "God does not impute your sin to you".....Romans 4:8
You better study that and get the revelation., and when you do, you'll know the truth.

And the reason you find this shocking is because you think you have some part to play in your redemption.... AND THAT IS BECAUSE YOU ARE "UNSKILLED IN THE WORD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS"...........REMEMBER????.
That is your issue......>GOTCHA<.......and once you get the revelation that >GOD saved you< and YOU SAVED NOTHING AND CAN SAVE NOTHING..., you will be able to realize that this salvation you have, is actually the price that God paid with the blood of Christ to OWN YOU for ETERNITY.
God owns you, by right, as you gave him this right when you took the free gift.
You are HIS.....bought with the blood of Christ.....and the salvation you have is impossible to lose, because its HIS.........its not yours......IT HIS, he did it, and all he did was apply it to you based on your faith.

Now, had this salvation been based on you keeping it, or earning it, then you would have an argument.
You could say..."well as i did it, i can undo it"............BUT SEE, YOU DIDNT DO IT..........HE DID IT FOR YOU, AND WHAT HE DID, YOU CANT UNDO.......EVER<!!!
The salvation that saved you, is something that God did all by himself, that you have no part in......and he gives it to you.
And once he does, he SEALS it to you forever., or "until the day of redemption" of your body...is what your bible tells you.
DONE DEAL.
Eternally secure.
You cant be unborn again.

So, Saint, whenever you run across some ignorant, mentally twisted bible denying fool, who will try to convince you that you can "lose it".......just ignore them as if they were Satan telling you that Mary or water baptism can save you.

God saved you, and GOD ALONE keeps you saved, and that's the end of it.
K

Hebrews 6:4-6
[sup]4 [/sup]It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, [sup]5 [/sup]who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age [sup]6 [/sup]and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

[sup]17 [/sup]If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, [sup]18 [/sup]do not consider yourself to be superior to those other branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you. [sup]19 [/sup]You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” [sup]20 [/sup]Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but tremble. [sup]21 [/sup]For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.
[sup]22 [/sup]Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.

Phil 3:14-16
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
[sup]15 [/sup]All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. [sup]16 [/sup]Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

Heb 10:36, 39
[sup]36 [/sup]You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
[sup]39[/sup]But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.

FYI, Hebrews was written to believers, NOT just Hebrews. It was written by Luke, who was NOT a Hebrew himself, and also wrote the gospel of Luke and Acts.
As far as salvation is dependant of God to provide it and honour His word, that is all the security we have. Our responsibility is to WALK the WALK, and that is solely dependant on us as believers. There are many more verses where we are encouraged to make sure we do what WE must do, for example the 10 virgins. Our responsibility is to maintain vigilance and trim our lamps and keep them filled. Those who don't, according to Jesus, will be SHUT OUT. I can't see how the scripture could get any clearer on the subject. There is no OSAS.

Do you have scripture to confirm these things?

The only people who argue that you can lose your salvation are those who are..

A.) not saved.

[font=lucida sans unicode']B.) do not understand what GRACE actually is and does.[/font]

Christ said:- John 4. That true believers are not about a place of worship any longer. There is no correct place to worship God in Jerusalem or anywhere. Because true worshippers are those who worship in Spirit and Truth.

What you believe about once saved always saved has nothing to do with the way to God or salvation.
Jesus said: " I am the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE, no one comes to the Father but by me.

A place of worship is not longer required for the true Temple of God because Gods Kingdom is within the person.
Those who receive Gods Holy Spirit because they believe in the truth about Jesus Christ.
There is only on sword the most important part of the Christians armour because this is the part which defends you the rest of the armour protects you. But with the sword you cut down the enemy of God the lies told by Satan.

[sup]17 [/sup]And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

There is only one annointing and true way for a person to belong to God and Christ and that is they have the Spirit.
John 17 shows how we are made one. It is in having the Spirit we possess the sword which is the words which the Spirit gives us.
The words which Christ said he would give us. The words we need to speak. The true mark of a believer in Christ is that they obey the commandments to love God and others. This is done through the power fo the Holy Spirit in their lives. It is not of themselves and it does not cause us to judge others simply to tell the truth about the things of God.

It those who receive Gods grace who live in it, that know the grace of God is in love.

Does OSAS mean we sit on our butts or live the 'fast' life? No..."all of a Christian's life is one of repentance", of loving others, of looking to Jesus as we take each step. But it's all done in response, not in effort to keep or earn back.

Rach,

the reason that so many oppose the idea of only being saved once and that for eternity, is because they ither are not really saved, or have not understood what Salvation actually is all about.
So, many of these types think that... "well, i cant save myself without Christ, but after he saves me, i have to keep myself saved by MY works".
What thinking is more ridiculous or backwards then this???
How they get into a circular reason pattern that allows them to think that their works which cant save them before they are born again , can then become the only thing that keeps them saved.............Ive no clue how they get locked into this mindset other then stubborn self-righteousness bubbling inside them has taken over their spirituality and theology.

and part 11 is...

When a person says......."yes, im saved, and i cant lose it, and my sins are ALL forgiven"............the self righteous will then stand up to be counted and say..."OH, you are saying that no matter what you do, you are still saved"..
So, they connect the dots that are not even there...
Yet , they are exactly correct.
A saved person, who has the imputed righteousness of Christ, cannot be lost, forgotten, cast away, forsaken, or ever end up in hell.
The only way a saved person can end up in Hell, is with Christ IN THEM, going there too.
Not going to happen.

Some of these extreme legalistic or RCC types need to read Romans 4 where it says that God justifies the UNGODLY, and that God no longer charges any sin to a saved person ever again.
All they have to do is read Romans Chapter 4, and believe it.
Simple.
