I thought that I would start a new thread since we kinda got off track on the instrumental music in worship thread. this was the whole defense from the bible for staying under the the Law of Moses Acts 13:38-39
Matthew 5:17 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."There are many that teach that when Christ came and went to the cross at Calvary, and shed His blood for us that the law was done away with. Jesus Christ Himself declares here that this is just not so. Jesus declared here that; "think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the Prophets", Christ's purpose for coming to earth, was to complete every last prophecy that came out of the Prophets of old. That included the law, for the law was given for guidance for man, and it is as current today as it was three thousand years ago.Did you get that.If not you are not following his word. Unless you can prove every prophesy in the Word including his second coming is fulfilled the Law is in effect. God knew that man could not keep the law, and that is why He made the provision for man. When man broke the law, and the barrier came between God and man, and certain rites, ordinances, and rituals [sacrifices] were established by God to bring man back to God.These sacrifices were of the blood of sheep, goats and doves, and were a covering, [called atonement] that satisfied the Lord God for one year. The only permanent sacrifice that could atone for mans sin, was a spotless sacrifice, sinless, and the only one that could do that was God's only Son, Jesus Christ. This was known long before the setting forth of the planets. God's plan was even written in the constellations of the heavens. The moment our Lord Jesus Christ died on that cross, the veil in the Temple was parted. Matthew 27:50, 51; "Jesus, when He had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. [50] And, behold, the veil of the Temple was rent in twain form the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;" [51] My friend, this took place when every last rite, ordinance and sacrificial ritual that required a blood sacrifice of animals, (or part of those blood sacrifices) was done away with, for Jesus Christ's death on the cross fulfilled them all. Not the Law the rites, ordinances, ritualsHowever, those laws that deal with the governing of our everyday lives, were and are still on the books, and they are what God expects the true man and woman of God to follow. Those laws and commandments should be common knowledge to all mankind, for they are what all civilized law and government is based upon. The ten commandments, as Jesus will discuss later in this chapter, are just acting out plain common sense, and when anyone tells you that you don't have to follow the law because it is dead, and then you violate them, then you will deserve what ever punishment is given for it's violation.
here is how the bible describes the law of moses.Law of sin Rom. 7:5-6Law of the flesh Rom. 7:5-6Yoke of bondage Gal. 5:1Law of death II Cor. 3:7Powerless to save Heb. 9:9, 10:4Made to change Heb. 7:12, Gal. 3:25Faulty Heb. 8:7Weak Heb. 7:18Unprofitable Heb. 7:18 No salvation Heb. 10:2-4Perfected nothing Heb. 7:19No mercy Heb. 10:28An old way Heb. 8:13Carnal ministry Heb. 9:9-10Ministration of condemnation II Cor. 3:9Brings bondage Gal. 4:24-25Cannot justify Gal. 2:16Brings a curse Gal. 3:10Cannot give life Gal. 3:21Done away II Cor. 3:7-14Abolished II Cor. 3:13Ministry of death II Cor. 3:7For Israel only Dt. 4:7-8, 5:3either all of these verses are wrong and the bible is not telling the truth, or the intrepretation of the verses quoted from another thread are wrong.also, yes, 9 of the ten commandments are still in effect, why? you might ask because Christ repeated all of them in the new testament except one, keeping the sabbath. The Fact is that the bible teaches that the old covenant (mosaic covenant) has been fulfilled, to say otherwise would be to say that Christ failed in fulfilling the old covenant (mosaic covenant) which was his mission.also, could you clarify what part of the law you believe to be "still in effect".I say all of these things with all of the love in my heart!

Covenants are agreements between God and Mankind. We have seen throughout history, many agreements given to man. The one thing Moses was instructed to say, and impressed me the most, was when Moses told the Israelites what God instructed was God's identity. When moses carried out the instructions, the Israelites bowed to Moses. The words or phrase Moses spoke; imagine, one pointing their index finger in a diver's manner and repeating, "I am that I am". Remember, in communication, you become what you read, hear, feel, see, or acknowlege as truth. You are even the air you breathe and the food you eat. We become so many things, all combined, i understand what god wanted us to know. Emotional Intelligence (EI), often measured as an Emotional Intelligence Quotient (EQ), describes an ability, capacity, or skill to perceive, assess, and manage the emotions of one's self, of others, and of groups. As a relatively new area of psychological research, the definition of EI is constantly changing. We exist in an abode; a place that supports life. We perceive things as the causal and the effectuals. The effectuals are continually permeating with all that exists within the abode. What has happened to mankind, is he has never learned to exist in an equable state or free state. Thy shalt not kill. But should we kill in any measure? If we pollute the atmosphere with pollutants, is that not premeditated murder? See, we had to find what is common among us...a Natured jurisprudence. Natural law is the idea that there are unchangeable laws of nature which govern us, and that our institutions should try to match this natural law. (source:wikidictionary) There are the embodied laws of Nature that all humans possess and inact as the psychosomatical. The interaction between the physical and the psyche. When you put us all together, Nature itself, requires we govern ourselves in a manner that is morally acceptable and meets moral approval, moral manner and moral order. This is what god created for us, and what God has been imparting to us over the ages. How to exist upon Earth in a free state, and in a pursuit of Happiness. Some call this Etiquette- the code that governs the expextations of social behavior. I call it, Righteous of mind, deed or thought. As ones of history knew, the Zadokites or the Nazarites. A covenant is then a solemn contract, oath, or bond.

Very nice post grandkissGod never broke the covenants man broke them Christ came to fulfill the laws not to do away with them. You say he repeated all the laws except Sabbath in the new testament that is because he fulfilled the Sabbath Law and became our Sabbath. He will fulfill the rest at his second coming when we are changed in the twinkling of an eye and there will be no more murder, coventness, ect. But it is not done till the End.He also fulfilled the Ordances,Precepts, rites and rituals. Example it is no longer necessary to sacrifice a Lamb for your sin Christ became our sacrifice. The health laws are good example. It is no longer necessary to eat or not eat certain foods (health laws) as we are saved by grace, However you will be healthier if you follow these laws. So are they still in effect the answer is both yes and no the laws are still good and whats best for our bodies to stay healthy, but you will not be committing a sin if you do not follow them. They are both in effect and not in effect.

Jesus saves, not the OT..
smile.gif
We know that, because if the OT was all we needed, God would have had no need to send Jesus would he?

Dustin in your other thread, I agreed. We aren't under the Old Covenant. In the Old Covenant, it primarily dealt with externals. Do this, don't do that. The heart of a man could be cold as stone, but outwardly he could still keep the law. Granted he was breaking the law by not loving God, but all seemed fine on the surface. Afterall, his actions were fine. Over time, there was a disconnect in the hearts of the people. Their actions became their justification. Not their faith or their relationship with God.Under the New Covenant, we are freed from a strict set of rules. But held to a higher standard. Both our hearts & our actions should reflect both our love of God & our concern for one another. Thankfully, God gives us the grace & power to do this. Since if it weren't for the Holy Spirit, none of us would be capable.I do keep most of the law. For a variety of reasons. First off, I figure if God said something was wise, it is still wise. Why re-invent the wheel. Better to go with a proven way to live & save myself some aggravation & heart break. But my motivation isn't-gee I'll do this & God will do that. Rather it all stems from a relationship that makes me want to please God & become more like Him.There are a few other differences. Such as greater authority under the New Covenant.
