Most people don't truly know what a true personal relationship with GOD is. I'm sure some won't buy in to this but in my opinion this is how he truly wants it.1. Talk to him like you would a friend, but at the same time talk to him like GOD. Basically talk to him, not pray. When I communicate with him, I don't bow my head down, fold my hands, or close my eyes. I don't start out prayers with terms like "heavenly father", "father God in heaven", father God, etc. Basically, talk to him like you would a normal human being, but like GOD. In my opinion, he would very much appreciate that and would very much reward you for it. That's what a true relationship with GOD really is.2. In my opinion, GOD would very much appreciate individual prayers rather than group prayers where people hold hands while praying. 3. Most people, when they pray, they only pray to ask him for forgiveness, help, guidance, etc. I don't think that's all he wants. When I "pray' to him, I pray to him not only to ask for certain things but to talk about my day, how things are going, what's on my mind, what's bothering me, etc. Basically, I communicate with him like I would a normal human being but like GOD. I don't think GOD likes it when people pray only to ask him for things. Feel free to chat with him here and there, don't just ask him for guidance and forgiveness. Basically the same things you should talk to him about should be the same things you talk about with a friend. That's what a true relationship is!4. Don't just pray at certain times of a day (ie: before a meal, when you wake up, before you sleep, etc. ) Pray at random times of the day if you truly want that personal relationship. He would very much appreciate that and reward you for it. I talk to him every hour. He doesn't like it when you have a set schedule for prayers. That's not what a personal relationship with GOD truly is.

Excellent post, and welcome aboard BTW! I agree. We were created in God's image, and He is like us, or I should say, the other way around. I once mentioned the different names of God---- to the nations that do not know him he is merely "God" (or in Hebrew Elohim). To Israel, He was YHWH or JHVH. This is indeed a personal covenant-keeping God with an identity to a specific people, but one with an atmosphere of authority as a master.Jesus then called God "our father". We are no longer merely servants like Israel, but born sons of God (don't confuse what I just said with not obeying Him) .You see that? God became more and more personal and revealed---- and the concept as a whole agrees precisely with what you stated. Thanks for sharing.

The best way to have a true relationship with God is to understand the underlying message of what the Bible says rather than taking scriptures on a literal level.
