I’m not sure what I said that was so offensive in the OP? maybe you can tell me what it was? When I mentioned not wanting to be offensive...what I meant was by some topics that usually bring with it a lot of bashing. I wasn’t meaning to bash anyone but had questions. Truly, I’ve been thinking about how I really do not know what the breaking of bread is. Or what ‘in your feast of charity’ is, and was only giving the verses that came to mind during study.

What is ‘Feast of Stephen’?
Hi @VictoryinJesus The carol 'Good King Wenceslas' has a reference to the 'Feast of Stephen'...

Now this I can work with.

The "Breaking of Bread" is a euphemism for sharing a meal derived from the matza (unleavened bread) they usually shared.
Disciples of Jesus would "break the bread and give thanks to God" for the food. The term "bread" in Hebrew isn't really bread but is a metaphor for basic food which can include bread.

Sharing a meal is a declaration of peace as related by Abraham's meal in Genesis.
The disciples shared a meal with Jesus/God.
But as his disciples they had to follow his mannerisms precisely as they would any Rabbi. Jesus was unique in breaking the bread and then giving thanks from every other Rabbi out there.
As recorded in John's Gospel during and after the meal Jesus encouraged the apostles and affirmed his relationship with them. (Declarations of love)

So...
Later they referred to this sharing of food as breaking of bread or "love feasts".

During the middle ages in order to celebrate the various fathers and saints of the faith they would hold a feast and church service (mass) in their honor.
Christ's mass is on December 25 and usually has a feast shared with family and friends.
On December 26th it is Stephan's mass and feast. (The first martyr following Jesus as told about in the book of Acts) It has a more common name of Boxing Day where the Christmas Bonus and exchange of gifts is derived that is common today but usually is done in Christmas season instead of for Saint Stephen anymore. There's an old Christmas song called Good King Wenceslas that sings about a Bohemian King that was kind and instituted Boxing Day.

Thank you. Looked up the song and listened to it. One of my favorite passages regarding Stephen is when he is chosen to serve tables. Acts 6:1-5

Thank you. Looked up the song and listened to it. One of my favorite passages regarding Stephen is when he is chosen to serve tables. Acts 6:1-5
Actually it was considered to be a privilege for him.

He was considered a reject as a "Hellenistic" Jew amongst the rejected Christian Jews amongst the reject nationality Jew.
That was why they picked him to martyr...no one would stand up for him or come to his defense...not even those he kept fed.

So...
When facing the Sanhedrin he figured his life was toast...so he decided to go out with Bells on baby!
As a result while they were stoning him he saw a vision of Jesus.
He saw Jesus standing to honor his arrival into Heaven... like we stand in a courtroom when the judge arrives. He didn't understand what he saw, but we do today...he is a hero of mine.

Now Paul was there at the stoning of Stephen...
He was a Pharisee.
A Pharisee wasn't a Rabbi...he was a religious/political leader elevated to that position because he followed the Law of Moses better than the others in his community.
IOW he was a "good guy" and righteous in the sight of people. Kinda like an elder or deacon in a church today. He didn't self appoint himself a leader...his community did.

There were other groups of political/religious leaders called Essenes, Sadducees and Zealotees. They, of course, did not believe in Jesus. They were there to stop belief in Jesus.
These guys of these various political/religious groups all usually followed various Rabbi. Hillel, Shemai, or others.

So the question is: Did Jesus mean literally or spiritually?

Jhn 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

So that's where I stand on that issue.

Habakkuk 2:15-20 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness! [16] Thou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the Lord's right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be on thy glory. [17] For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein. [18] What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols? [19] Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it. [20] But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

1 John 5:10-12 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. [11] And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. [12] He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

John 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

Not sure what this has to do with the topic but in study this morning ...this has helped with ‘bread’. Not trying to teach but share because one thing that stood out to me is ...how he knew exactly what he was doing. Like when he asked them if they could not discern the time of visitation? Or when he said Mark 11:2 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.
...knowing the colt would be there. The difference in God saying it will come to pass or men saying a thing will come to pass and it never does. can not really put into words but how he knew, He would find them with nets fishing. Mending, breaking, washing ...

Habakkuk 1:14-17 And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them? [15] They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad. [16] Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous. [17] Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?

Isaiah 19:5-8 And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up. [6] And they shall turn the rivers far away; and the brooks of defence shall be emptied and dried up: the reeds and flags shall wither.(consider: a draught) 7] The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and every thing sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more. [8] The fishers also shall mourn, and all they that cast angle into the brooks shall lament, and they that spread nets upon the waters shall languish. (with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad. [16] Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag;

they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag;...

Mark 1:17-20 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. [18] And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him. [19] And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets. [20] And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.

‘And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants...and went after him’ ...Luke 5:2-11 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. [3] And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. [4] Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. [5] And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. [6] And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. [7] And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. [8] When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. [9] For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: [10] And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. [11] And when they had brought their ships to land,
they forsook all, and followed him.

John 21:9-14 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread. [10] Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught. [11] Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken. (Consider Matthew 9:16-17 No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. [17] Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

[12] Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. [13] Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise. [14] This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.

Finding the donkey colt is like finding a used car lot...they actually kept a few there for the prophesied Messiah.
Everyone wanted to do something for God to earn God's favor.
The unique thing was that he rode it. The colt didn't try to buck him off. It was untrained.

The Sea of Galilee is a rather small lake. (I've seen larger ponds)
But the unique thing is that sunrise is an hour's long affair. It's light for hours before the sun breaks over the Golan Mountains/hills.
As the morning starts the sun breaks over the Himilayan Mountains in Pakistan/Afghanistan thousands of miles to the East but over the flat desert it lights up Israel due to refraction of the humidity below sea level.
So it's light like a cloudy day is and comfortable. Now the moment the sun breaks over the Golan Heights that little pointer on the thermometer can be used as a fan because the temperature rises rapidly and the sun beats down unmercifully.

If I was a fishermen I wouldn't want to be on a boat on the water reflecting back at me. I'd fish during sunrise and then head to shore as it actually could be seen. Then clean my nets to get them ready for tomorrow.

wasn’t aware they kept a few there for the prophesied Messiah. What of Genesis 49:11 Lexicon: "He ties his foal to the vine, And his donkey's colt to the choice vine; He washes his garments in wine, And his robes in the blood of grapes.

Mark 11:4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.

Any significance?

Zechariah 9:9 is the more trusted prophecy concerning the Messiah riding a colt.

Crossroads were more of a prime selling location of goods (like a colt or something else)

The Genesis 49 is more about the tribe Judah's leadership than anything...but in a verse or two before this The Scepter is mentioned.
Now this is exceptionally important.
The Scepter referred to leadership as in executing justice.
All leadership of Israel was from the tribe of Judah. David was from this tribe.
So was Jesus.
But when the day came that Rome/Herod decided that the Israelites no longer were allowed to execute anyone for defying God's laws they mourned the loss saying that Rome/Herod had made God wrong. Had processions of people in sackcloth and ashes for three weeks.

They never noticed the birth of a baby in a manger in Bethlehem.

The right of the Scepter was his.

But the Jews would regularly practice stoning people anyway...they were obstinate in that fashion.

John 6:53

I don't see the following as a feast of charity. There is a whole lot of negativity going on... IMO that is.

1Co 11:23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
1Co 11:24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
1Co 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
1Co 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
1Co 11:27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
1Co 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
1Co 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
1Co 11:30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
1Co 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
1Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
1Co 11:33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.
1Co 11:34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

Jhn 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
Jhn 19:32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
Jhn 19:33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
Jhn 19:34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
Jhn 19:35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
Jhn 19:36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

1Co 11:24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

Psa 34:3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
Psa 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
Psa 34:5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.
Psa 34:6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
Psa 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
Psa 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Mar 14:33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
Mar 14:34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
Mar 14:35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
Mar 14:36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
Mar 14:37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
Mar 14:38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
Mar 14:39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
Mar 14:40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
Mar 14:41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Mar 14:42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

Psa 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Psa 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
Psa 34:20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

Mar 14:41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come;

Mar 14:72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

2Co 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
2Co 12:8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
2Co 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2Co 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Betrayal, broken, bringing to remembrance, show the Lord's death, guilty, examine yourself, damnation, no discernment, weak, sick, sleep, judge yourself or be judged, chastened, condemnation.

Jhn 4:34Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

Luk 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

1Co 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

Amadeus is sure that I am.

I don't mind...I've been called much worse by people who are my friends. My ears are rather used to the abuse.

And where I've skimmed through a lot of this...I have yet to see simple and accurate information related here...

But ya'll keep on.
No, I am Not sure that you are a goat. What I perceived was an attack against a sister in the Lord in whom I have never personally seen any purposeless attack directed at any one. In her post #40 she asks you to explain what you saw as offensive in her OP. Perhaps you really thought you saw something as now you believe you see something in me. Communication among people is always a problem even between believers. Patience and controlling our desire to accuse someone... even when we are sure they are wrong and should be accused... are, I believe, very important so that people who love God in any measure can move toward Him and toward one another. Remember the two great commandments and move on from there asking the Lord for help!

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." Matt 22:37-40

So very simple and yet at times so very complex. People read these things and even think on these things and then proceed down their own previously determined course. On forums such as this one I try to always be very careful what I post... yet in spite of my care and prayer and consideration I know that I still sometimes misstep... Are there any here who do not?

Charity is the word used for love in olde English. A few olde translations haven't changed yet...and probably not going to.
Modern translations have.

Mar 14:33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

Mar 14:41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come;

Are there any here who do not?

wanted to tell you the other night(it was in my heart) but I didn’t because of fear it may not be the best time to do so. You remind me so much of 1 Corinthians 4:14-15 I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you. [15] For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

Lately, I have so many questions and thoughts (right or wrong)about the Lord’s Supper. Questions regarding the breaking of bread and the giving of wine. Not to be offensive but Catholic’s are often compared to the Pharisees, dressed in the best priests robes, in the highest seats, in ritual of passing of the bread and cups for another to take and eat of His presence. As is the pope. Which brought up a question I have about the Pharisees. Did the Pharisees hold or practice communion? When the Pharisees, unless I’ve misunderstood, were before the Lord teaching one must eat of his flesh and drink of his blood...which when those heard, even his disciples, they had never heard such a thing before. John 6:32-34 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. [33] For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. [34] Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

You really need to keep this simple.

The Pharisees who rejected our Lord Jesus Christ did not break bread in remembrance of Him, nor to represent His body and the resurrection. They rejected His resurrection, and instead paid soldiers to lie even about the removing of the stone at His tomb and disappearance of His body (Matthew 28:11-15).

Christ's offering of the bread and the cup is ONLY for those who believe on His death and resurrection. Now some of the Pharisees did believe on Him. Did those leave the Pharisees and join with Christ's disciples? We don't know, we aren't told, but can only assume some did. But they certainly could not stay a Pharisee and preach The Gospel of Jesus Christ, as Apostle Paul is even a prime example of that.

So no, the Old Testament Hebrew traditions for bread have nothing to do with Christ's offering of His body and His blood per The New Covenant. If it were per The Old Testament, it would have had to have been a literal lamb sacrificed instead of Himself. So we always need to keep those ideas separate, for the orthodox religious Jew today still believes they are supposed to do animal sacrifice.

Jew! Fraud. A word given to us by an English Play Write name of Sheridan and perverted, put into the 1787 Rheim NT, fraud by Popery of Catholicism to replace the Pharisee "son of the devil" with Jew, 1787 frauds of the "liars, thieves and murderers", the "Synagouges of the devil." Satanism, invented by the 538 BC Pharisees, Zionist of Zionism, Judaism, Pharisee ism who murdered Jesus in 33 AD. John 8:44 "You Jews, [1787 AD frauds, the 538 BC Pharisees, ] "Turn the other cheek!" KJV
God gives grace to the Humble but opposes the proud.
God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

Can't help it...I learned it from God.

are like your father the devil, "liars, thieves and murderers" who murdered Jesus in 0033 AD.

wasn’t aware they kept a few there for the prophesied Messiah.

Oh, there's a lot more being said in that Genesis 49:10-12 Scripture...

Gen 49:10-12
10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
11 Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass's colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:
12 His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.
KJV

That "sceptre" is not just some relic behind a law bench. It's a rod of 'royal' rule by a king or queen.

Sir Robert Viner (1631-88) - The Sovereigns Sceptre with Cross

"Shiloh" is put for our Lord Jesus Christ.

The main Message is that the tribe of Judah would continue to possess the royal scepter rule, and also have care of God's law, all the way to the time of Christ's return, and then to Christ Jesus will the gathering of the people be.

It's important to note that the Genesis 49:1 verse Jacob gathers his 12 sons around him, and is telling them what would befall them in the "latter days". So these prophecies are for the very end of this world, not back 2,000 years ago or before.

Thus per that prophecy about the tribe of Judah, they are STILL today to be upon a throne ruling. And when Lord Jesus returns, that is when He will claim His right, that throne and royal sceptre that the house of David is still holding to this day. And yes, the Jews hate this revealing.

What rod is Revelation 2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

Yet future?
Lamentations 3:1-24 I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath. [2] He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light. [3] Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand against me all the day. [4] My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones. [5] He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail. [6] He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old. [7] He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy. [8] Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer. [9] He hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked. [10] He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places. [11] He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me desolate. [12] He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow. [13] He hath caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins. [14] I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day. [15] He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood. [16] He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes. [17] And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity. [18] And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the Lord : [19] Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. [20] My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me. (2 Corinthians 12:21)[21] This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. [22] It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. [23] They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. [24] The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
