There is only one true church

No, I wisely believe that each Book of Scripture does convey Truth -- regardless of the order in which it is read. I agree. I agree that the author of Second Peter refers to Paul's writings as Scripture --and I agree that Paul doesn't.

    God's Hatred

That is a fair request (although I cannot agree that Luke 2:48-49 and Luke 14:26 are unrelated). The truth of the matter in Luke 14:26 -- "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my...

    Thanks for the tip.

There is only one true church

I don't doubt the word of God. I'm not Catholic. And I have great use for the Bible. I just refuse to read into it the things you do -- like the "our" in Second Thessalonians refers to more that Paul, Silas and Timothy, and like the Apostle Peter had a copy of all of Paul's letters. You...

There is only one true church

This is a big day for me! I've finally met someone who thinks the Apostle Peter authored Second Peter! Everyone I have ever known or read who weighed in on the subject says it was pseudographical.

There is only one true church

It means no such thing. "Our" is a reference to Paul, Silas and Timothy (1 Thess. 1:1, 2 Thess. 1:1).

There is only one true church

Jude Thaddeus brought it up; I just replied. And I guess you grabbed my reply as if it was intended to disagree with your thesis. I don't disagree with your thesis. You'll get no argument from me on the importance of oral tradition. I've already stated that a few times here. Where we...

Why I hate the Bible... Or so they say?

If you're right, the Bible is superfluous. The HS can just miraculously impart info into your brain. That would be way more efficient!

    God's Hatred

You hate your family? Because you've been commanded to hate them? Wow. Talk about taking things out of context! Luke 2:48-49 in my Bible: "When his parents saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, ‘Child, why have you treated us like this? Look, your father and I have been...

Revelations does not explain Luke. You are projecting.

There is only one true church

I don't see 12,000 thrones per tribe in Luke 22:29-30. Not literally. Not symbolically. Not any way. If the Good Doctor were here chatting with us right now, and we asked him "Luke, did you intend the symbolism of 12,000 thrones per tribe when you wrote these verses?" he would undoubtedly...

    Filling in Scriptural Blanks

I love epistemological discussions! If the truth of a proposition is time sensitive, it has a beginning and an end (bordered by its time sensitivity). "Queen Elizabeth is dead" is true today but was false a few years year ago. But if you read it in the Hebrew or the Greek, you couldn't reject...

    Filling in Scriptural Blanks

Thanks. I see a number of English translations of Psalm 119:160 with "sum of your word." But that is actually a poor translation. The notion of summation, totaling up, adding together, etc. is actually foreign to the original Hebrew dāḇār (thy word) rō'š (the beginning). The LXX uses archē...

Why I'm NOT a Christian. - Or so they say...

I just took a quick look at some Early Church Father writings on the resurrection. 1 Clement 24:1 maintains that the Father raised the Son. So does Chapter 9 of the Epistle of Polycarp to the Philippians (and Polycarp was a disciple of John). So does Chapter 45 of Justin Martyr's First...

Yes, with a little help from John 10:18.

Why I'm NOT a Christian. - Or so they say...

Maybe so, but that doesn't explain the anomaly. When the Beloved Disciple wrote in the late First Century, the average Christian reading his gospel on this issue would have considered Jesus being raised by the Father as established mainstream thinking, given all the attestations in other...

Why I'm NOT a Christian. - Or so they say...

It just occurred to me that I've never heard this before outside of John's gospel. I've heard from other sources that God raised Him from the dead-- in Rom. 10:9, 1 Cor.15:5, Gal. 1:1, 1 Pet.1:3, Acts 2:32. My understanding is that John wrote last, and I suspect he was aware of some or most of...

Exposed what? The only thing you've exposed is that you think Second Timothy and Second Thessalonians are the same letter! For the umpteenth time, graphe appears in 2 Tim. 3:16. I have been saying that consistently. It does NOT appear in 2 Thess. 2:15. If had a nickel for every time you...

Why I'm NOT a Christian. - Or so they say...

It's actually everybody's problem. Let me give you an example -- again from Metzger -- of why you need to be careful here: “A theological point is involved in the placing of a comma in Luke 23:43. According to the traditional way of understanding the passage, the repentant robber asked Jesus...
