What kind of Study material do you use?

Logos app is downloadable for free. Very useful.

There is only one true church

I see it plainly! I have said ONLY that Second Thessalonians should not be included as a proof text. You included it. I called you out on that. Please let this be the last time I have to say that I agree with the importance of apostolic tradition. You and I are on the same page there...

There is only one true church

Not at all. I am saying only that when he wrote Second Thessalonians Paul didn't have in mind what -- years later -- Peter or James or John might write.

There is only one true church

I am not suggesting that we set aside A SINGLE THING in Scripture. I am saying that where Scripture is silent on a topic, oral tradition may be followed.

There is only one true church

Because it is on a subject unaddressed in Scripture. "Consistent with" means "not contradicted by" Scripture. So you DON'T "have the Bible on it."

There is only one true church

That's obvious, but that's not my question. If an oral tradition is consistent with the Bible, do you nevertheless automatically reject it?
  7. R

There is only one true church

Are you putting aside everything not in the Bible as not from God?

    Why do you write?

Writing helps me organize and expand my thoughts. I had a story or two kicking around in my brain, and writing helped me develop and refine them. Publishing just seemed like the best way to get them out there. I didn't publish for profit.

There is only one true church

So you define God's Word as what is written in the OT and NT, and nothing else? That's a little silly, don't you think?

There is only one true church

How can we be sure? Not everything taught to or by the apostles is written in the four gospels and twenty-one letters that happened to be adorned with canonical status in the fourth century.

There is only one true church

Establishment of Sunday as the Lord's Day has a fairly early and extensive pedigree -- and none of it from Rome. Nearly two centuries before Constantine legislated it into an official day of rest, chapter 67 of Justin Martyr's First Apology suggests that Sunday worship had taken root. Chapter...

There is only one true church

Tradition can be truth, but only if faithful to original teaching by authoritative teachers.

Why as even, Christians, judgements continue to strive?

It did sound that way to me. My view on the proper meaning of the quote is that we are admonished not to judge people harshly, lest we be judged harshly, but rather to be forgiving, so that we too will be forgiven. (a la Matt. 6:14).

Why as even, Christians, judgements continue to strive?

We will all be judged. Those of us who judge others will be judged. Those of us who don't judge others will be judged. We will all be judged. So "judge not lest ye be judged," if it means "judge not in order that ye not be judged," is false.

There is only one true church

I addressed it in Post #666. Paul meant exactly what he said to the Thessalonians: to consider both the written and the oral teachings they had been provided as something to hold fast to. We don't have much of a clue what those oral traditions were, nor who besides Paul transmitted them. As...

    A Question for Jehovah's Witnesses

The NWT translation of Matt. 28:9 is "And look! Jesus met them and said: “Good day!” They approached and took hold of his feet and did obeisance to him."

Catholic tradition, not the Bible, teaches a change to Sundaykeeping.

Some cultures named week days after gods. Some did not. Why did you bring it up in our discussion of the Lord's Day origins?
  18. R

Catholic tradition, not the Bible, teaches a change to Sundaykeeping.

In Latin, not in Greek. Not in Syriac. Not in Coptic. What's your point?

Catholic tradition, not the Bible, teaches a change to Sundaykeeping.

While you and I may differ by a few decades, I think I said essentially this in Post #52. Assigning Constantine "nothing to do" with establishing Sunday as the Lord's Day is a bit strong, but your chronological point is well taken. Still, I have to agree with Aunty Jane that Sun God symbolism...

    Nowhere! That's why I said on Post # 666
