    Why Do You Believe....

As frustrating as not knowing is. That's just the best answer, (e.i. I don't know). Everything appears to trace back to a point and at or around that point things become mysterious leaving the researcher with more questions. Such is life....

Thanks for chiming in. This is an answer with some meat on the bones! What prophecies did it for you?

Why I'm Not a Theist Anymore

Please take this back and forth to your inbox. It's VERY disrespectful and not courteous to take over a thread with such personal expressions. Let's keep this on topic folks.

    Why Do You Believe....

"I don't know" is simply TRUTH. Making up something or clinging to something someone else make up because 'I don't know' doesn't feel good is not honest. There are MANY questions that remain unanswered and as frustrating as that may be, that's the state of affairs we currently find ourselves in...

    Why Do You Believe....

I was never taught this. I explained my understanding above. Sometimes, "I DON'T KNOW" is the best and most honest answer. Injecting faith to fill the gaps may make us feel better but in actuality does nothing to present true answers. Faith most often requires cherry-picking and closemindedness...

Why I'm Not a Theist Anymore

Apocalyptic Literature is what I've always heard it referred to as, and it has to be understood is non-literal ways based on things like the intended audience, the culture of the writer's day, etc. I get all of that. (BTW, I practiced Christian apologetics for a bit as a layperson trying to win...

    Why Do You Believe....

3 people are given the following math problem: 3x-2 = 7 Person A says x = 10, Person B says x = 4, and Person C say X=1. Which one is right? Would you elaborate on what you mean by ordinary as compared with not ordinary?

    Why Do You Believe....

I've often wondered does our desire for meaning mean that there is meaning or might meaning be an arbitrary thing we long to have in our lives to make the ups and downs more palatable..... When you say 'nothing', what do you mean? The way I was taught cosmology didn't present an origin from...

    Why Do You Believe....

This question is an open-ended question specifically pertaining to the reasons believers give credibility to the religious text their faith is built on. Why do you believe the compilation of writings that we call the Bible is what it claims to be?

Why I'm Not a Theist Anymore

You BELIEVE your belief is in the Christ when in actuality it is in what someone SAID about the Christ. EVERYTHING you believe about the Christ was declared by man and personally adopted by you, EVERYTHING. Christ, damnation, salvation, and other characters and plot items are the writings of...

Why I'm Not a Theist Anymore

I go where the evidence leads. If the Bible miracles stories could be demonstrated to be factual, I'd believe they occurred. With the right evidence, I don't see why not. Second hand narratives and the Bible itself doesn't give such evidence, However, so if you have other sources, please share...

Why I'm Not a Theist Anymore

I have read and own the book. I was hoping it would add some info I was lacking, but I found that it uses many of the same things I used as a believer.

Why I'm Not a Theist Anymore

Didn't really have favorite famous pastors. I learned from many local preachers, however. For the sake of your question, I'll list some googleable pastors I spent significant time listening to and was able to gleaned info from: Don K Preston John Lomacang Edwin Crozier Connie W. Adams Dr. Ray...

Why I'm Not a Theist Anymore

Not exactly... Someone, a man, wrote alleging Jesus to have said something and you have elected to believe THAT MAN regarding HIS words about Jesus. The reason for believing HIM needs to be substantiated.

Why I'm Not a Theist Anymore

You do a TON a unsubstantiated assuming. What you call truth has NOT been demonstrated as such, so calling YOUR theistic perspective truth is disingenuous at best.

Why I'm Not a Theist Anymore

Doesn't quite fit as one cannot wrestle with the nonexistent. For clarity, I am convinced that the Biblical narratives of deity are FALSE and the god representations therein are NOT based in reality. SO I don't wrestle with God, but rather with the PEOPLE who assert THEIR OPINIONS about deity...

Why I'm Not a Theist Anymore

The burden of proof is ALWAYS on the one asserting something to be so. In this case, YOU. I do not believe YOUR assertion and you haven't proven YOUR assertion true. Correction, you BLINDLY believe in what PEOPLE declared about Jesus. Your trust is in THEIR narrative and your personal...
