    Why Christianity?

Many of the Christian martyrs were killed over reasons other than religion, too. You cannot deny that people of all faiths have died over their religion. Christians are not alone in this fact and to claim so makes you seem very ignorant of the world around you. From that same site: And in...

    Why Christianity?

Why not? I can always learn, always amend my "beliefs." The world is a big place and there are a lot of ideas to be discovered.

    Why Christianity?

From a former Christian, believe me, I'm not blind to it. I did, however, overcome it.

A useful chart for classifying Belief

You can verify that something doesn't exist. Half the results that happen in science are verifications that something didn't happen or that something doesn't exist.

    Why Christianity?

Did you even read what I wrote? Or did you just pick key words and run with it? Many people of all kinds of religions have died for their faith. You do know, and I imagine you do, that written record is a fairly new thing in history. Just because it's not recorded doesn't mean it didn't happen...

    Why Christianity?

The whole point is that you cannot claim there are no pagan martyrs because we honestly don't know, likely because it's not in written record. No one felt the need to record every person that died and why. Just as I'm sure many Christians were martyred and we'll never know about it because it...

    Why Christianity?

Hypatia was a pagan who lived in the 400s and was murdered by a mob of Christians. Seems to me that there are intact pagan martyrs. And I'm sure plenty more who were never recorded in history.

    Why Christianity?

If you want to talk about historical records, there is very little genuine historical record of Jesus, outside of the Bible (a record which was made by his followers, hardly the most credible.)

    Some Advice...

Biologists mainly study anything that is living, not just plants or animals. And I agree, there are some things in life that science can't explain… yet.

    Why Christianity?

I'm sure many have died for the pagan gods. They were around for quite a long time.

    Some Advice...

Biology is the study of all living things. It is within the realm of biology to study the origins of human life. For the record, you stated that faith, something that by definition is something without proof, is above reason, that which seeks proof and evidence. That's the difference between...

    Why Christianity?

But how do you know the God of Israel is THE God? How do you know the others are false? Telling me "because the Bible says" means nothing if I don't believe the Bible. Why should I believe the Bible? You understand how that's a circular argument, right? You have not said anything convincing that...

    Some Advice...

Well I have a degree in biological sciences. Sorry, outranks your social sciences when it comes to the stuff the universe is made of. And for the record, I never said I believed in anything. You went ahead and put words in my mouth and built a strawman to attack.

    Some Advice...

I'm not about to be lectured on what is scientific by someone who believes in an invisible and unprovable entity that has magical powers. What qualifications do you have to tell me what is and is not science?

    Some Advice...

You'll be surprised to find out that just because we don't know the cause doesn't mean it doesn't exist. You are satisfied with the answer "God did it," but science isn't. Just because we don't know doesn't mean it happens by magic. Neither of us can be present at the moment of "creation" so...

    Some Advice...

Pray tell, what is the "logic of true science?"
  17. L

    Some Advice...

Precisely. Flawed human reasoning. How do you dare to claim to know anything about God if you are incapable of even understanding his glory? He is infinitely above you. Beyond you. And yet you claim to know what he wants for human kind? The Bible. Sure. Inspired by God. Great. But God created...

    Some Advice...

That begs the question of what it means to "know" something. You equate belief and knowledge, in this case. I disagree that you can know God exists through natural reason. You may assert divine intervention, but I am under no obligation to believe that to be true.

    Some Advice...

However, Christians are only one step "ahead" placing the cause of creation of nothing out of God. Past that, we're in the same boat. But the fact of the matter is, neither of us can provide undeniable facts that prove our side.

    Some Advice...

And I mean this in the most respectful way— but if you want to have conversations with atheists and agnostics, you need more sources than just the Bible to back up your belief. I understand you believe the Bible to be the word of God. However, others don't necessarily believe that. And because...
