How many have ever changed their minds...

Charles Finney was a Presbyterian minister (he studied under George Gale) , so there are things about his theology I do not affirm. I worry about his methods as well. But his much of his doctrine was actually close to Jonathan Edward's, which I appreciate. None of that matters now. We are not...

Took this pic earlier this year. :)

I know how you feel. I was once a strong Calvinist plumbing the depths of Scripture. Then a voice said "stand up you fool" and I waded out a little deeper :D.

Yep. Tares grow among the wheat. That is what we have to deal with. Sometimes we can discern those who are not saved (their spirit reveals their heart). But tares look like wheat and grow with the wheat until harvest lest wheat be pulled instead. This is the reason for the threshing floor...

"Hermeneutics" just means making sure we are reading God's Word. I agree with you. There are too many "knowledge seekers" void of the Spirit. John Owen (a Puritan minister) wrote: Whatever God works in us and upon us, he doth it by his Spirit; he, therefore, who hath no work of the Spirit of...

I wish you all would stop using "Ramen". I like Ramen". Take the beef ramen and add an onion, fresh basil, and some fresh tabasco peppers and dinner is served. :) Don't even get me started on Vienna sausages (Armor brand only). That'd be a threadworthy topic itself. I would not say...

How many have ever changed their minds...

The issue, IMHO, is often the questions being asked. I have known some to dive into Scripture wanting God to explain to them His mind and motivations, the "order of salvation", ect. When they come to a conclusion they are absolutely sure God gave them that "truth". Of course, most often those...

Sorry. It stands for "Southern Baptist Convention". We are like rednecks let loose in the theology section of a library. We may not know what we believe, but we dang sure know it's correct. :)

It is eternal security (that those who believe reveive everlasting life). (I hear OSAS mostly with SBC folks. I'm SBC.).

I can say no one has changed my views, but several have made observations that down the road led me to reexamine and even make changes to my views. The main benefit has, I believe, been in relating to others. I agree with you here. And this is true "spiritual growth" (as opposed to knowledge).

How many have ever changed their minds...

The goal, IMHO, of these forums is to learn of other's beliefs and explain your own. Once we understand one another then we can evaluate the other's views and reexamine our own. This is a good forum for that. There are many here who are mature students of Scripture and willing to discuss...

The "Fall" in Genesis (what does the text of Scripture say?)

Genesis 2:7-8 Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. The LORD God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed. I understand this to indicate God created...

The "Fall" in Genesis (what does the text of Scripture say?)

I know it is not true be a use it is not on the Bible. The Bible not only tells us what God said to Adam but the Bible tells us what happened afterwards. Since your myth is not in the Bible we can be pretty sure it is wrong. I do not think this is something God would have just left out.

The "Fall" in Genesis (what does the text of Scripture say?)

Yes, I never advocate anyone adopt my understanding. I do not believe that is the value here. What we need to do is ask our questions, explain our positions, argue our points - not to change the other but to reexamine our views and better understand each other's interpretation.

The "Fall" in Genesis (what does the text of Scripture say?)

I disagree. The second death is a Christ-centered judgement. It is when Hades and death are cast into the lake of fire.

The "Fall" in Genesis (what does the text of Scripture say?)

No, the natural is first, not the spiritual (1 Cor. 15).

The "Fall" in Genesis (what does the text of Scripture say?)

That is an interesting concept (one I had not considered). I do disagree but that is because I see physical death as the consequence of Adam's sin and the "second death" a consequence of the Cross.

The "Fall" in Genesis (what does the text of Scripture say?)

But that is not true. God did not tell Adam that he would die and Adam did not die. God told Adam that on the day he ate of the fruit death would be certain (on the day you eat of the fruit you will surely die). It is only true if you rearrange the words and ignore the Hebrew.

The "Fall" in Genesis (what does the text of Scripture say?)

I disagree. The text does not lend itself to a "spiritual death" (especially when Chapter 3 is considered). Do you know the Hebrew concept of a spiritual death in Genesis?

The "Fall" in Genesis (what does the text of Scripture say?)

No point. Just part of a study. As I get older I forget where I put things. If it is here I can find it. :)
